Replying To FrDougalMaguire:  "They wouldn't be training for 1 game.
They play Dr mc Kenna Cup and league also.
More incentive to put 100% effort into the game if it were knock out"
I think you know that I meant one championship game.

Every other competition, the big prize has always more than at least one game in sport. Although they do round robin much earlier and not at end.

Agree... Knockout football is needed at the end not round robin..
Under this new system a team could beat Dublin or Kerryin the provincial final.. another team could beat Dubliner Kerry in the Super8... yet Dublin or Kerry can still win the all Ireland despite suffering maybe 2 defeats.
So the emelent of surprise for teams like Tipperary ourselves and anyone else who makes the Super8 once in a blue moon is gone.

So straight knockout gives teams only one game and one chance which no county wants.

But any other system allows a team to beat another and for the second team to still win the tournament.

What is it we want again?

There is nothing wrong with the system as it is. But I felt the Laois motion should have at least been debated.
If the GAA were serious about making more time for clubs why didn't they condense the provincials, and bring the all Ireland's forward without adding 8 extra super 8 games 4 of which will be dead rubber games..
if you lose your 2 first super 8 games are you really going to travel to places like Cork for a 3rd Super 8 game that will be a dead rubber game?

First of all, there seems to be a general consensus that the current system is not ok. I'm not saying I agree with it, but that's the consensus. The problem is identifying what the problem is. The reason for this is that there are so many stakeholders involved that all have their own problems, but few solutions.
The shortening of the championship and ending of replays should be acknowledged and welcomed by all.
The Super 8 is fairly irrelevant in many ways. It won't throw up four dead rubbers. It'll throw up two at most as the two teams in each group that come through the back door will play against each other in the first game. So at least one of those "weaker" counties will have points on the board.
The reason that something more radical wasn't attempted is because the GAA can only take baby steps when it comes to reform. Otherwise nothing would ever get the 66% vote needed.

There's no fairness to the Superv8..
suppose to be 1 home game , 1,Away game and a game in Croke park..
So where does that leave Dublin? ... 2 Games in Croke park ?
Flawed from the start..

Well Croke Park is home for Dublin so what they say is accurate. But you're right, it's unfair. Dublin's Croke Park game should be elsewhere.

Ramor put down a marker for the year with a hammering of Arva. Mullahoran look to be in trouble.

Sean, you're missing the point. The point being made (not by me) is that by everyone having a game in Croke Park, then Dublin by default have a second home game. Anyway, this is not the thread for this discussion.

Kerry lad McSweeney is gone back to Kerry, who are the Meath lads? Was he playing for Meath or why would he play for Cavan if not Meath.

Is anyone else slightly worried about the margins of defeats across the 3 divisions on the first round of the league, apart from the draw with a quick calculation it worked out the average win was at 9.5 points. Now there was some totally lopsided games, however out of the 20 games played 12 were won by 7 points or more and only 3 games won by 3 or less.....
