The reactions here serve to prove Joe Brolly right in his assertions about the direction the GAA is heading. The fact that so many suggest that the Cavan County Senior Team should be managed by an outsider and others wondering if we can afford these so called star managers. Our Senior Team represent us the people of Cavan. Show some respect for a true blue like Terry who gave of his time to help our teams compete. The fact that we have 40 Clubs each with multiple teams from underage up and we still have the mindset that we need to bring in someone from outside of Cavan to coach / manage our Teams and pay them anything other than actual expenses incurred tells more about the state of Cavan football than our championship record. rahanman (Cavan) - Posts: 127 - 02/08/2016 22:30:47 1894378 Link 0 |
Terry has done a good job with Cavan but he is right to go at this time. Like to see Malachy O Rourke succeed him,he hast committed to Monaghan yet for next year. He has done great work getting the best out of Monaghan over the last few years evano11 (Cavan) - Posts: 257 - 02/08/2016 22:36:48 1894384 Link 0 |
If the county board can't afford the likes of James horan they surely couldn't afford a bad manager like the banty. We're in div1 and don't want to end up like Meath when they finally got rid of him. Sorry to see Terry go he might not have a perfect record in the championship but he has got us to div1where we need to be and hopefully improve on the championship in the near future BIBS (Cavan) - Posts: 4 - 02/08/2016 22:56:55 1894404 Link 0 |
Terry is showing good judgement in quitting when he has achieved Promotion to division 1. He has been a good servant of Cavan football and I wish him well. marita (None) - Posts: 464 - 03/08/2016 01:22:01 1894438 Link 0 |
Ciaran O Reilly is the man for the job. Breffnisbest (Cavan) - Posts: 412 - 03/08/2016 08:31:08 1894461 Link 0 |
I have seen Cavan managers come and go since the 60's and Terry's departure is about the only one apart from McHugh that I have felt sad about. This is probably to do with the fact that while Terry knows its time to go (was probably his last year anyway) it is obviously with a bit of a heavy heart on his part as he is a very proud Cavan man who obviously loved his job and his players and wanted success for them and his county with a passion. He is one thoroughly decent, humble man who I hope realises he is leaving on his own terms and with his head held high after what he achieved. breffni47 (Cavan) - Posts: 34 - 03/08/2016 09:06:57 1894473 Link 0 |

Fair play to Terry Hyland, he has shown magnanimity in his decision to step aside. A sound man in and out of football. Despite the shortcomings of his senior team in championship games, nobody has done more for Cavan football over the last decade. MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 489 - 03/08/2016 09:57:34 1894495 Link 0 |

Let's hope the county board handle the recruitmnru of a replacement manager for Terry professionally and get the best available manager for the county. marita (None) - Posts: 464 - 03/08/2016 10:28:20 1894518 Link 0 |
Sad to see Terry go, He has given us Cavan supporters many good days over the years and a reason to be proud of the county team again. Two promotions and two ulster under 21's in 5 years is good going for a county that was in the doldrums since 97. So thank you Terry for everything, you've put the foundation in (and the roof on the house). What Cavan need now is someone who is a proven winner and who can instill the belief and toughness into this squad. When you look at Tyrone for example, those younger players grew up watching Tyrone win all irelands. That instills a confidence that we don't have. Our lads only vaguely remember a senior Ulster title in 97....... theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 394 - 03/08/2016 10:36:13 1894527 Link 1 |

It is the minor job that John Brady has applied for and is interested in getting he has won the last 3 Gerry Reilly Cups with the Under 16's let him have a couple of years with the minors before he goes to Under 21 and Senior. Would Ciaran O Reilly's record with Mullahoran, Ballinagh, Killeshandra etc. not make him a live contender? Anyone know how is Joe McCarthy keeping he might go in with Peter Reilly if he is in good form? Breffnisbest (Cavan) - Posts: 412 - 03/08/2016 12:48:45 1894687 Link 0 |

Yes Ciaran O'Reilly I just could not remember his name. I would leave Peter for a while. Reference John Brady he has done a good job at U21 level as well won a title a couple of years ago with Lavey and Killinkare so can handle that level also. Loads of names will be bantered about. Am I correct in saying that the clubs have to agree on a manager or is this up to the county board ??? The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4565 - 03/08/2016 13:37:54 1894737 Link 0 |
Just like to reiterate a lot of the previous comments and thank Terry for his work and dedication over the last 6 or 7 years including his u21 years. No man has done more for Cavan football and it was just a pity that he dident go out on a brighter note in the championship. But sadly a few things conspired against him. !! Terry has left us a better footballing team than he found us and many thanks to him for that. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 03/08/2016 14:36:10 1894804 Link 0 |

Cant see why John Brady would be considered, he's doing a very important job there and should be moved up the minor job to carry on the development and ensure the production line continues to run smoothly. maybe in a few years time however.... I don't see whats so wrong with mentioning Ciaran Brady, its not like i plucked a name out of thin air. I'm not saying he's the man for the job but he has a decent record. If you're going for a realistic successor Peter Reilly looks the best. He won two under 21 titles with a good few of them lads and has experience of winning in Ulster albeit at u21, not to mention his own two ulster medals as a player. Not to panic yet anyway there's still time plus I won't be picking him anyway theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 394 - 03/08/2016 15:07:31 1894838 Link 0 |
