Replying To deanmartin:  "Great to be back, and not too often myself and Cavan97 agree, but seriously lads, anyone that thinks that the current management set up should stay on, needs to take a good look at themselves. They cant bring us any further that where we are now, they did a great job getting us to Division 1 and we are all grateful for that, but their lack of tactical awareness and their lack ability to make changes when we really needed them is plain to be seen, particularly in the big matches. We had Tyrone on the ropes in the first match, Harte knew this, made a change or two and Tyrone are back in the game, in the 2nd match, once Tyrone got on the front foot, it was over, we had no answer."
Deanmartin Terry brought great disipline and commitment to the setup and for that we have to be grateful .,But tactically he is lacking in preparation and more importantly mid match. We have gone stale and even though Derry are not as good as us I expect them to beat us quiet comfortably .

Any word on team selection for tomorrow.Obviously Givney out but is Martin Reilly available.I feel McDermott has been a big loss but even if fit now it's a big ask to play first game in championship after no competitive game in 15 weeks. What do posters feel about full back position, surely any team would play a roaming full forward on Rory Dunne,Cavan management must have the cop on to recognise this and put a plan in place,It does not suit Rory to follow and it does not suit him not to follow if there are two smaller speedy bucks inside so does that mean Killian is still the best option in there? At centre half back Moynagh can play football but is he a sweeper,I would've thought Padraig Faulkner could make a good 6,play football, and read it too.We need more constant mobility around the midfield, what are the options? The forwards look very unsure, all that has happened in recent games is that we have played Mackey as the free man and he has carried and sometimes over carried the ball. Now that Givney and McDermott are not there, suddenly we have no forwards.Seanie in his 30's lacking in pace for championship although he might yet shine in the championship .What other scoring forwards have we really bar McKiernan who nearly has to play midfield if Killian full back and Givney out ?E Keating looks off the pace and last Givney type option we have is Michael Argue. The panel is awash with half backs/half forwards who can run up and down and play the handpassing game very well but where are the natural forwards and the tackling and marking backs.I hope Jason McLouglin can play tomorrow. All in all i fear that a lot of questions have yet to be answered and i fear that the bookies could be wrong this time. The game tomorrow is surely a 50/50 at best but one thing for sure is that we need to try something a little less predictable. At the Carlow game we rarely gave the ball to inside forwards by the quick long accurate kickpass until late in the game, this suits Tom Hayes,Jack Brady and Seanie but even Carlow are now playing with two sweepers and even Carlow flood back to cover the D and cover the 45 with another line. There is no team other than Dublin,Tyrone,Kerry and previously Mayo and Donegal and to a lesser extent Monaghan last couple of years able to play this game because you need supremely fit but powerful pacey players to counteract it,the only other option to vary it is the big but talented target man and/or two seriously speedy inside men which we have not got.

I saw McDermot in the dug out last Saturday. It would be great to have another option on the forward line.
Young Hayes showed well when he came on.
Cavan 8/15 is a bit of a ridiculous price.
I reckon it will be tight enough.
You could see last weekend that we looked tired but never looked in danger.
This time we know we're up against it.

Hopefully the myth ends
Derry are really poor by the way
Whereas we are loaded with low quality but fit footballers

As I said if we cant beat Derry we are going no where. We just dont have the players. Will be eaten alive in Div 1.

Agree ..we are a div 3 team
We will work hard over the winter ...try and get 4 or 5 pts on the board before the real div1 teams show up
Then petter out over the following months

That was disappointing ,, we needed a target man in the full forward line in the second half someone like Keating that Derry would have to pull the extra man back on , I don't understand why mossey was taking off , I honestly think its now time for a change in management ,someone with a new fresh approach .

Thanks Terry Hyland for your trojan efforts to bring Cavan back to the top level of football. A base has been built and now it's time for someone new to bring it forward. Best of luck.

I am following Cavan football for the last 50 years, I thought this might just be the break through, but no .
I have seen it all before, it all ways end in tears. No matter who manages Cavan they will never win anything I am sorry to say.
Maybe we should just play Junior county football .

I'm a bit like the previous poster (tired)
So many false dawns.
Is the management getting the best out of our players, remember 4 Ulster under 21 championship wins out 5 and nothing to show.
I had a feeling Derry would beat us today after what I saw against Carlow that and the usual indiscipline at vital stages.
Probably better off as the big guns would probably put us to the sword like Tyrone did.
Some day ?????

It's time now for the people on the County Board and accept responsibility, move swiftly to put in place a new management team to bring this team to the next level. Players looked tired and dispirited and lacked focus energy and enthusiasm.

I think it is time for a change of management.I can't help but think that the team for the championship was picked in January and everything that was learnt in the league was either forgotten or ignored.half time in the league match against Meath things changed. We released we can't have both Mackey and Martin Reilly on the pitch at the same time as they slow the ball down moving forward.
Fergal Flanagan went off injured and missed the rest of the league and we played our best football after that.in the second game against Tyrone he was asleep for the second goal as his man was in the goal getting water and he was out past the 45 looking for him. He was caught out and Tyrone scored the second goal game over. There was no excuse for what he did today it cost Cavan a game they were in total control of and left his side with 14 men for the whole second half.
We had a good full back line for the last five league matches and then we play the semi final of Ulster with none of the players selected in this line.Killian Clarke has started the five championship games in five different positions- full back, full forward, midfield, half forward and today half back.
As I said a fresh voice is needed Pete Mc Grath or Malachy O Rourke would fit the bill.

To be honest , there is no next level in Cavan. That is the best team I seen in my day and look how far they got.

Poor day at the office. I've great respect for Terry but I do believe he has served his time and a fresh voice and pair of eyes are probably needed now. But remember, today's game was lost when we went to 14 men and management cannot be blamed for that. Exact same thing happened last year too. Thanks to terry but let's see what a new man could do.
