Oh to be able to read into the future, It does not matter for we will never know if they would or not. Lot's of tired feet out there yesterday and it just takes one piece of magic to get the adrenaline flowing isn't that true ???
Let's not dwell on what might have been and enjoy the victory.

Not dwelling at all. Cavan had also better subs to stick on. Jack Brady very impressive when introduced.

I must say that despite the win I came away from Breffni Park very disappointed with the level of our performance yesterday. Armagh were appalling- a joke- yet we almost handed them the game through sloppy and headless play. With an efficient and ruthless display yesterday we could have won by 17 points again.

Killian Clarke struggled at full back. Moynagh wastes a lot of possession and carries the ball into the tackle too much. Murray was poor as was Michael Argue. Corr has no pace whatsoever. McKiernan faded badly in the second half so much that I thought he was injured. We are totally dependant on Martin Reilly and McVitty to provide impetus and direction and they are the heartbeat of the team. Johnson was good yesterday but he looked wrecked when he came off. Mackey was the difference but Armagh gave him the freedom of the pitch. We are not using Givney right at all. Keating displayed the lack of discipline that has caught us many times in recent years. We will be lucky to get within 5 points of Tyrone in the semi-final. In fact it will be over by half-time if we play as poorly again.

It's going to take a massive improvement if we are going to topple Tyrone.
I was delighted to win yesterday but not that impressed. Armagh were poor.
Our defence was very shaky at times and Killian Clarke fell asleep for the penalty, he wasn't watching the ball into the square at all.

Massive improvement needed for the Tyrone game.

Wow. Not much hope for Cavan in the Ulster Championship against an Armagh team that drew with Tyrone & Galway and defeated Derry in their last 3 games in that case. Oh wait, hang on a minute.......

A more balanced perspective from Eugene McGee perhaps:

I hate to think what will be written about these players when Cavan lose a game!!

Good result and it's great to get the win in the first round. Armagh were very poor but still managed 29 shots at goal. We tended to stand back and let them come at us. Think we need to push up on Tyrone as they come out of defence. If they get 29 plus shots at goal we in real trouble . I hysterical hope we have learned from the league final . I'd play jack Brady and Seanie Johnston on the inside line against Tyrone using wings and keeping away from going up the middle because of their sweeper system. Stretch them wide , run at them and take them on , we have the pace and the panel .

Cavan literally demolished Armagh who were playing a blanket defence and we should be heaping praise on a great team performance.
Gearoid did seem to go out of the game a little in the second half but it's a 15 man team and we were always comfortable.
How many times in the past have you ever seen a Cavan team win a championship match so easily.
Tyrone of course is a huge challenge and whether we win or loose there's a lot more to look forward too this summer and the future is BLUE

If Cavan had lost we'd have 20 more pages here, where are all those guys in the aftermath of this fine result?

Having had some time to digest the game an analysis here are some of my thoughts.

I think the media are really jumping on McGeeneys back now and it shows we were on a hiding to nothing in that game. Cavan handled the pressure and never looked like losing. Armagh were disorganised and that will not be the case for the next game. I thought Mackey coming in worked very well and he ran and penetrated the Armagh defense (even though it was missing in action for some parts). I don't think Niall Murray took his chance and we will surely see Ciaran Brady back in for the semi. We really need to look at the sweeper role and positioning. I think Moynagh may struggle and Tyrone will be practising with Colm Cavanagh in training and that will benefit their forwards and backs. I thought Jack put his hand up but he offers us a fresh pair of heels off the bench. Will be interesting to see where Tyrone will prioritise. Maybe Mackey and Martin Reilly can play wide and cause problems if they focus on Givney, Johnston and McKiernan. It will be a tactical battle but one that we should relish!

Why do lads play football or why do managers get involved? For days like June 19th in Clones, thats why! If we can get our shape in order and play with the same speed then we will cause them trouble. I think this one is closer than people are calling already which suits us nicely!

Great result and its only the first championship game - it will bring the lads on and you can be sure they will up their game for Tyrone. I didn't feel that armagh were ever going to win the game and after the second goal went in, it was strangely quite in breffni - its like we didn't know what to do as we were winning well and its not a position we are too familiar with!

I agree with some of the other posters though, we need to be more ruthless - in fairness the players themselves know this and have said as much in the post match interviews. Argue and Murray didn't have their best games yesterday so I would be playing jack who seems in great form and killian brady from the start the next day ... mossey fouled alot as well which could cost us later in the championship.

Also i was worried that our players would get dragged into a dog fight as there were a few off the ball fouls that the ref or linesmen didn't act on - how did we get 2 of our forwards on yellows so early ..? we need to get a bit cuter and stay down for a wee while - then the ref has to take action of some sort

Any time you win an Ulster Champ. match with 8pts to spare one should be pleased... The down side is that this was the worst Armagh side I have ever seen in a Championship match yet still caused us a lot of problems.. some of their shooting was very poor... Michael Argue is not doing enough to warrant his place in my view and Niall Murray will likely loose out to Ciaran Brady for the Tyrone game....

I agree with most people's opinions. I don't think argue is worth his place, offered little the last few games and seemed to be lacking serious fitness ,was very tired second half. Murray hasn't took his chance and makes mistakes.

Killian Clarke midfield maybe. Gearoid on the 40. Rory Dunne full back. Hopefully get Jason back in. Then maybe Ciaran Brady start.

Great to get the win but Armagh offered little. And still we came back a bit too close to them at the time of their penalty. A better team would have punished us at that vulnerable stage. Work to be done but I believe that we can beat Tytone, if we hit them with our A game, with pace and intensity. For me this means without Mackey, he just slows us right down and isn't fit enough to operate at full throttle.

Moynagh was good in the loose role, but who wouldn't be? The best gig on this team, no man to mark and always free, but it seems to suit him.

For me it's about having a winning mentality and the freedom to use it for the next game.

A lot of positives from that performance including handling the tag of favourites. From listening to players afterwards it came across that they expected to win, not arrogance but belief which is the one thing Cavan teams have lacked for ages.

If McLoughlin is fit the next day I would like to see Dunne going to full back and Killian Clarke coming out to HB instead of Niall Murray. I think he will give Tyrone a lot more to think about from there and I feel not only did he struggle on Sunday at FB but also did so against Laois. I might be hyper critical but I think he also judged the ball wrong for the Tyrone goal in croker when for a moment he went to intercept it and that gave his man that half a yard. Massive fan of Killian and I think it is also the case, as was shown on Sunday, that our FB line is now more exposed than the last couple of years because we are more offensive.

I am sorry but I have to question your opinion on Michael Argue. He is a young developing player and will be as good as G McKiernan once he develops a bit more. Try and stop being negative and try and be a little positive about these young lads. We know young Clarke is not a full back we know he is an attacking wing half back. Rory Dunne had a serious injury please lads give them people a chance. Not long ago I was reading posts saying get rid of Jack Brady and several others now after Sunday even if only as an impact sub he is some lad to have on the bench. Off course there are people we feel are not good enough for inter county football but that's just our opinion Mr Hyland has a different opinion.
When I posted we would win our last five matches in the league I was laughed at and the rest is history.
Tyrone is going to be a hard ask as they are one of the top five teams in the country we are just not up there yet but look at the progress and dissect it since Mr Hyland took over from my mate Val Andrews and draw your own conclusion. I think for this team to be serious contenders for the big trophy's it will be at least another 2 or three years and at that stage all the filtering of player's should be complete and silver ware will follow. How many said R.Galligan was a waste of space well he performed very well for me and I saw his potential when he was put between the sticks, long may he continue.
Hang in there enjoy what is happening.
