Tough start to our league campaign. How do you guys see this one going on Sunday? Can anyone remember when did we last beat Tyrone in a league or championship match at senior level? On a positive note many of the lads have experience of beating Tyrone at U21 level. This has to be the year when these guys finally step up to the mark and make the breakthrough. It is a tough ask but not impossible if our lads keep their discipline and play for 70 minutes. We did go toe to toe with them for 35 minutes in last years McKenna Cup Final. Can we do it for 70 minutes on Sunday?

It's a big ask if anyone to go to Healy park and get a result. Lots of Div 1 sides wouldn't get a result there. I'd be more interested in the style of play we use .. Tyrone are past masters at breaking down the blanket as well as playing it. So what do we do? Go 15 on 15? We definitely need to push up on their kickouts because if we let them build from the back its curtains! Terry will have to show he is versatile in selection and game plan. He's in with the big boys now. There no hiding place. Don't really matter if Tyrone are 6 or 26 better than us.. It's our performance, style, discipline that counts. That's where the hope will come from.

Having watched the highlights of the Derry v Tyrone game from last week which was played at a good pace, it looks like we are operating at a lower level to either of those sides. Tyrone have serious power & pace, a plethora of scoring forwards and have a never say die mentality. Their running off the ball in that game was something to watch. Its a tough opener but Im not sure the result would be any different if we played them well into the league because they will also improve on where they are. I will gladly eat my words if I'm wrong but I can only see this going one way. I think the performance of the lads be the thing to watch, if we can be competitive for 70 minutes I think that would be something. I'm glad to see Keating, Johnston and Givney back but I don't see any of these boys as game changers yet. Reality check on the way I'm afraid

Seriously though, this is a tough one but maybe not the worst time of the year to play Tyrone. A performance is important here. A bad beating and this forum will be a nightmare for the next 8 months!! Hope that we have some support up there. I'll go but the weather looks brutal!

to be fair we shouldn't be too dissappointed if we lose to Tyrone. They have experience of mixing it up with the very best in the country for the past number of years. They have lots of experience of playing on the big stage, they have the most experienced manager in the game to make changes when things are not going to plan. Phycologically they are very well prepared too. That doesn't mean we can't put it up to them. What I hope doesn't happen is that one or two of our players do something stupid and get red-carded thereby making a difficult situation almost impossible. If we keep our heads and don't panic and please don't give away stupid easy frees by lazy tackling. i wonder who TH will pick in goals ?

Plenty of options in the forwards, but you would be seriously worried about pace/mobility if Givney, GMac, Argue, Keating Corr and Johnston are on the field at the same time. Tyrone would run the legs off these lads, and take short kickouts to nullify cavans strength in the middle all day. On paper they are the strongest individuals but together the mix is all wrong.

If we're serious about Cavan taking the next step and really contending this year then Killian Clarke has to be played in the full back line along with hopefully Corr when he's back from injury. Clarkes ability three years ago to man mark and drive forward on accasion was one of the key reasons we got to a qtr final, Since than as we know he travelled to the U.S and then last year was for the most part injured. Yes Givney may not as yet have the fitness levels to go at it around the middle for the full 70 but we have to persist with giving him game time in the league and come the end of April hopefully he's up to the leevels required at the top.

It went to a replay and cavan lost the replay. Stephen King I think was man of

I think you are referring to the Derry game in 87 maybe. It ended in a draw. was a great game. actually have it on VCR. King scored 1-2 a goal from about 20 yards and 2 points of either foot. it was nip and tuck with a very young black haired Bernard Morris just drawing on the ball every time it came near him, a class Jim Reilly and of course a brilliant Dermot McNicholl and Brian Gilligan. I was only 8 at the time but I thought these guys were superstars

Was in Spain on vacation when Cavan and Derry drew the first day . We got back in time for the replay in Omagh that was a great game and a very good Cavan team should have won an Ulster title. Ray Cullivan didn't play in the replay flu I think huge loss . A young fellow of the name Paul Keally scored a terrific goal for Derry in the last couple of minutes he wasn't even togged out the week before turned out to be the winner. Derry went on and lost to Meath in the ALL IRELAND SEMI Paul emigrated shortly afterwords as did I , we became good friends playing against each other in Philadelphia I still bust on him about that goal when having beers, good lad.
