I don't think we'll be relegated or get promotion. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 18/01/2016 21:40:22 1817515 Link 0 |
After attending all the McKenna Cup games and analyzing all the players new and old I have come to the conclusion that relegation is immanent, followed by a swift exit from the championship. The panel as a whole is not good enough and wildly overrated. Management look clueless on the sidelines and all I can see is another year of frustration for these proud Cavan fans. I will be surprised if we pick up any points in the league. To those of you who may be irked by my comments, watch it all unfold before your eyes in the coming weeks. The effort is there by the players, just the talent and managerial skills is absent in abundance. Steady_Eddie (Cavan) - Posts: 75 - 19/01/2016 09:13:17 1817531 Link 0 |
Steady_Eddie . I agree to an extent but I think the panel IS good enough. Our biggest problem is we don't know how to play the blanket defence properly. Just getting bodies behind the ball for the sake of it is not the answer. Watch the 2012 all Ireland first 5 minutes when Donegal scored their goal and watch the way Lacey broke at pace to deliver a long ball into Murphy who won a 50/50 ball. The blanket is not about 9/10 passes sideways or backward when in possession. As I said yesterday playing Keating and Johnston in the middle of the park is no threat to anyone. Also in both the Armagh and Derry game we never pushed up once on their kickouts. We let them build from the back. Better teams will take us to the cleaners if we let them do than. Terry needs a Brian mc eniff or a Banty along side him as clearly there is no experience in the management team. There's a big committed panel there crying out for experienced leadership along the line. Awwwwnow (Cavan) - Posts: 1050 - 19/01/2016 12:04:01 1817589 Link 0 |

The panel is good enough to compete with some teams in Division 2, like Meath & Laois, but we will struggle physically and football wise against others, we are far away from competing in Division 1. Survival in div 2 is a must and bring in new management next year. deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 19/01/2016 12:59:08 1817617 Link 0 |
@s goldrick - this is a gaa forum not a grammar mistake forum. If anything it just shows your lack of intelligence that you can't argue my point. Enough of the pettiness. Steady_Eddie (Cavan) - Posts: 75 - 19/01/2016 13:18:33 1817627 Link 0 |

SGoldrick...nothing wrong with your grammar, but you do talk a lot of rubbish! deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 19/01/2016 14:33:14 1817670 Link 0 |

@s goldrick Again the grammar police are out in full flow and still no intelligent insight into Cavan football. How about some constructive criticism instead of this childish behavior?? Steady_Eddie (Cavan) - Posts: 75 - 19/01/2016 15:00:07 1817686 Link 0 |
Question for you Eddie. Cavan went to Potlaoise last year and won. Got hit with two sucker punch goals but were dominant throughout. We completely outfought Galway in Salthill in the second half with the wind and won. We are playing Laois and Galway at home this year. You say you don't think we will pick up any points. Why are you so certain we won't beat them? What's changed in the year? JonSmith (Cavan) - Posts: 1451 - 19/01/2016 15:46:40 1817711 Link 0 |
From what iv seen this year so far is what I'm judging it by. Steady_Eddie (Cavan) - Posts: 75 - 19/01/2016 16:13:52 1817722 Link 0 |
I agree with you slasher, I think we will finish in a similar position to last year. Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 19/01/2016 16:21:27 1817726 Link 0 |
I hope to be proved wrong but I sense a disappointing year ahead. Steady_Eddie (Cavan) - Posts: 75 - 19/01/2016 16:41:31 1817734 Link 0 |
I think we will find ourselves in a relegation dogfight but we will stay up. Best of luck to Terry and the lads!! JonSmith (Cavan) - Posts: 1451 - 19/01/2016 16:47:03 1817735 Link 0 |
Jonsmith - why don't you give us a run down of all the other matches last year...like failing to register a score in the 2nd half of the McKenna cup final, or Meath scoring 5 pts without reply on us! deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 19/01/2016 16:54:58 1817737 Link 0 |
I think staying up will be an achievement .id expect to beat Armagh in the 1st round of the championship and if that doesn't happen I'd hope Hyland would be man enough to walk even before the qualifiers. There no hiding place for this management now . We have experienced players who won u21 medals 5 years ago and it's time now to produce the goods. I'd hope Hyland will give players a chance to settle into positions in the league. Murray and mcVitty are a must in the half back line if you want to play the blanket and break at pace. Well staying in division 2 will do me this year but please anyone that thinks Cavan will have it easy against Armagh are on the wrong planet. Most teams will find Armagh hard to beat. Same applies to Meath?? We have the players it's just a matter of utilising what we have and using the best it's that simple isn't it.
