James McEnroe and Michael Lyng are not involved this year, does anybody know if Raymond Galligan is part of the panel

Great to see Eugene back. Out of the others mentioned as being gone, Damien Reilly is a moderate loss and McEnroe is a massive loss. The most of the rest were bit part players and nobody who made a sustained impact apart from Dunne. Raymond Galligan is on the panel he was togged out Sunday.

Interesting to see what all the posters claiming Keating and Givney refused to play under Hyland are saying now? I'm sure we will see them back on here every time we lose.

I think it was deanmartin who said players wouldnt play for Hyland. Then he says a lot of nonsense.

Sound for the link S Goldrick. That was a super goal by Niall McDermott.

Cavan's discipline is woeful, this will cost us as it did last year.

Didn't know McEnroe wasn't available, arguably our best defender, always committed and very strong. Huge loss. I'll never forget him throwing himself at the feet of an Armagh player to block a shot in the Athletic Grounds in 2014. We were getting thrashed, the game was long over and he still didn't give up. Supporters remember these things and appreciate them. Thats all we want to see.

Great to see the lads back on the panel . team done well Sunday i was impressed, good to see different lads get a chance, and playing very well, Discipline was an issue Sunday but in saying that the ref let Armagh away with too many personal fouls and the Cavan players were caught reacting , Our forwards this year will give any defences a headache, good to be able to say that again :-)

Good Man Fred, but don't think I made those comments about players not wanting to play for Hyland, I might of said that I wouldn't blame players who didn't want to play for him, but you see Fred, that's me, I'll give an honest unbiased opinion all the time. Praise where praise is due, but sadly, over the last 4 years of Hyland's tenure, there hasn't been much praise. To be brutally honest, the man was put into the manage the County Team 4 yrs ago, and he failed, but the County Board have decided to put him back in again, and all because various clubs in Cavan didn't have the balls to go against them.
Was it not you Fred that predicted that we'd beat Monaghan in the Championship last season? Is it not you Fred that predicts nothing but success for Cavan coming up to competitions, and then disappear for weeks on end when we lose?

Does anybody know why Nevin O Donnell moved to Leitrim. He scored two goals on Sunday.

I'm not a fan of Terry Hyland but I think we should row in behind the manager now that at least 3 players are back in the panel. Terry has to be commended for getting Givney Keating and Johnston back in to strengthen the squad. I'm modern football it's a squad game so it's important to have players of experience to call on. Any of these 3 players would have made a difference against Monaghan if introduced in the 2nd half. Holding our own in Div 2 and a win in Ulsthe 1st round of the Ulster are in my eyes the minimum that Cavan Supporters will accept this year . Anything less and there has to be big management changes. The L plates are off Cavan football now. It's time to deliver. The 3 players brought back in are attacking players 2 of which need quick quality ball delivered. I'd expect us to play with a strong inside forward line. Keating and Johnston will be no threat 60 metres from goal so I'd expect a big change of tactics from Hyland. Using Givney as a 3rd midfielder also pushing up on the opposition kick out and forcing the opposition to kick long is one change that could work if perfected properly.

Nevin's parents are from leitrim so playing under parentage rule.

I personally don't think Johnston will start. Keating and McDermott would be a better pairing inside. Granted, Johnston will probably play and part off the bench. If he is to play a meaningful role this year then Terry will need to go all in and give him games in the league to build up his fitness. When you are the wrong side of 30 and have been carrying knocks for a year or two then you need game time or else you can forget it.

In another point, I watched the Armagh match on the link Goldrick posted - such a bit of pulling and dragging from Armagh!!! Geezer can't have been happy with that sort of discipline. Long may it last!

Reformation if you watched that Armagh game you will also see that we never contested or pushed up on any Armagh kickouts . We let them build from the back and played 2 sweepers to turn them over. We back passed , side passed and the only time we kicked direct ball in we scored 2 goals. Martin Reilly playing way too deep. In my opinion I don't think Mc Dermott is good enough despite getting his boot in for a goal.

I just heard from a reliable source it's possible than Martin Dunne will make himself available this year.

Awwwwnow - would agree with many of your points - those players may have made a difference, but the point is, we had Monaghan on the rack for 50 minutes of the game until Hyland sent them back into their shell and they started playing that horrible defensive crap and Monaghan went onto score 5 pts in a row without reply.
So regardless of what players are coming back to the panel, you need to be playing a brand of football that suits them.
Cavan hold onto the ball too long, so its pointless playing Johnston or Keating or anyone else inside when the ball isn't going into them.

Deanmartin well il give Hyland the benefit of the doubt regarding the Monaghan game . Lack of forward firepower to bring on plus the fact I think he panicked when we led in the 2nd half thus the defensive game plan. I'd expect him to learn big time from it. All good sides play their best scoring forwards close to goal. Brogan is a typical example , 6 chances 5 scores. That's what we need and Johnston and Keating can bring that if they get fast accurate ball in quickly.

Lads we cant go man for man with 2 men on the line for most of the game!! I mean, a bit of common sense would tell you that. 2 man full forward line with 13 players?????

Im not even getting into this any further as we have played one McKenna cup in the first week of January and we all know that things will be different come the first round of the championship!
