Kevin Tierney is an absolute must. Can win own ball and has eye for goals. Ben Kelly templeport or Ryan connolly drumlane?

Absolutely Nothing wrong with Current forwards as good as are in the Country! M reilly C Mackey B reilly proves this
Just the stupid system they play.( Barry does nt buy into it)
But what I did see was ye some good squad players. (K Tierney Declan Kiernan lads who need to get into the squad then up their speed to play county football) No 13 from Arva played well in final can t wait to see David brady Ballyhaise playing Senior for Cavan

As I said before, get a new manager in, one who plays a fast, attacking type of football, rather than that defensive, slow nonsense that Hyland continues to persist with. Martin Reilly had an excellent championship because he was played in his proper position, yet Hyland has him in the half back line most of the time.

The best and only thing that will improve the County team is a new manager.

Although Oisin O' Connell wasn't great on Sunday he deserves a chance in with the senior team. He showed throughout the championship is a very good inside forward and if used correctly could fit into the county set-up.
I agree that David Brady is a huge talent and I think the experience he could gain from an early call up to the seniors would be huge. However I wouldn't call him in this year as he might be brainwashed (like many others have been already) into the toxic football that Hyland has the team playing.
You can solve the goalkeeper problem by bringing in the two minor goalkeepers from the A Championship final on Sunday. Fergal O' Rourke and Liam Brady were excellent on Sunday. Both are excellent free takers and have good kickouts. To add to that they both showed they are great shot stoppers which puts them a step ahead of Galligan. They also kicked scores under huge pressure which Galligan couldn't do against Monaghan.
In the senior final another minor Peter Corrigan was my man of the match. He scored to outstanding points from distance. It is hard to believe he couldn't make the starting 15 for the county minors this year. Matty McKenna from Killygarry also had a very good championship and would surely add something to the senior team.
But surely the preference must be put on getting the likes of Keating and Givney back into the fold. As frustrating as both these players can be they are excellent players and huge losses to the squad.

You cannot be serious !!!! The big problem in Cavan is that we are pulling young lads into the county squad too young !! Why don't we do like Kerry and let these young lads develop at club and u21 for a few years then introduce them into the senior set up. You won't find them bringing minors into the squad. And you wonder why players loose interest & suffer burn out

I agree StirringIt that is the point I am making, sorry if that wasn't clear. As I said with David Brady I wouldn't call him in certainly not with Hyland in charge. That point carries to the other minors I was talking about Corrigan, O' Rourke and Brady aswell as McKenna. The point I was trying to make is that they offer something that we don't seem to have in the squad at the moment. I should have emphasised that more.
In review what I am saying is that these young players could offer something to the senior setup right now but I feel that with the toxic football the senior team play under Hyland I would not bring them in. I agree totally look at Gerry Smith, Jack Brady, Eugene Keating and even Niall McDermott for examples. These lads were in a similar position to what the minors face now, being excellent minor and 21s footballers but weren't given time to develop and as a result I believe they have gone backwards. To call in the young lads would be a quick solution to the problem in theory put in fact be a disaster in practice. As I said in my previous post surely the main objective would be to focus on getting the likes of Givney and Keating back. This would be the best way to improve the squad for 2016 and it would prevent younger players being brought up.
Hope that clears things up about what I was trying to say

That makes sense.!! We bring young ads in too soon. The examples you gave illustrate this.
On Givney, I was talking to a friend at lunchtime and he tells me Givney is going back to Mountnugent next year. Don't think he was enjoying Dublin. Big boost for Mountnugent. They got to the Junior semi this year with a very young team. Givney will be a fantastic addition for them !! Him and young Rehill would make a very strong mid field paring

A lot of posters are getting a little bit carried away. The young lads at minor/21s mentioned have not/barely even played county u-21s as yet.The likes of Benjamin Kelly,Thomas Galligan,David Brady,Mattie McKenna,Peter Corrigan,Caoimhin Reilly, etc etc have to prove themselves at inter county underage firstly,so give them a chance before we start talking about senior level .I think a lot of posters do not seem to realise the colossal gap and huge step up from county u-21s to county senior level. It is easy to pick out the good young footballers but everyone knows who they are as does Terry Hyland i'm sure, as everyone named have played or are playing county underage football.Based on the discussion so far it seems that there is little or no NEW senior talent age 21 +.

Look the biggest problem is the so called talent, The scouts or who ever they are have all ready have their mind made up who they are going to watch no matter how good someone else will be playing they will not see him. It's called the blinker syndrome. This is why Cavan are where they are. Their attitude is that if they have not come through the so called youth development squads they are no good such a load of B+++++ks. How many players have come out of the woodwork after their 21st birthday around the country well none will ever appear in Cavan for they will not be seen by the so called scouts know all's.

I agree one hundred percent Mowbar - Development squads serve no useful purpose in my opinion ; the management should be scouting for players between 21 - 25 playing senior with their clubs

What about 5 under21 teams since 2011 and a minor team. Must be over 100 players there between 21-25. How many do we need ?

agree with mowbar where are the players from 21 to 26. thats when lads are fully grown. we need to try new players and more players. we need to get our club scene running better and have fixtures that allow players know when they are playing and not be making it up as we go along.

Mowbar, you say that the management team "Their attitude is that if they have not come through the so called youth development squads they are no good." What evidence have you to support this? Fire it out there. Are you following them around?
Since the current manager was appointed the following players have been called up to the senior panel with varying degrees of success:
Ronan Flanagan, Damien O'Reilly, Padraig Reilly, Martin Reilly, John McCutcheon, James Reilly, Philip Tinnelly, Oisin O'Connell, David Wright, Cian Mackey, Paul Smith, Mark McKeever, Tomas Corr, Robert Maloney-Derham, Alan Clarke. There are probably more but you get my point.
Bear in mind that Martin Dunne left the U-21 panel early in 2010 and Eugene Keating didn't play that year at all.
Now feel free to point out my mistakes above, there may indeed be some. I also admit that a lot of these lads didn't make it but the point is that they were called up from their performances outside the county scene.
So tell me again about this scouting system and tell me how you know what you claim to know.

speaking of u21's, when is the u21 championship starting or is that being made up as we go along also. It is a fantastic grade of football but it gets a raw deal from the county board stuffed in and rushed through at the end of the year.

Skelling USA ... What you fail to grasp is this current manager has had all the players you mentioned plus maybe 100 more from 5 u21sides and a winning minor side at his disposal and we struggle to get past the 1st round of the championship. What does that tell you? Are these u21of 2011, 2012. 2013 not good enough to step up to senior football when the reach 24/25? Or are the management not able to bring them to the next level? Where it breaking down?. Also the chopping and changing of selectors and coaches can't be of any help.. Why are they leaving? Why are players leaving? Yes some are injured but there are others who clearly won't play for this manager. Why?Look at or style of football? Do you thing it works? Do you believe players are comfortable with it? Do they look comfortable with it? My opinion is no. Should it be changed? Are management able to change it? Are they experienced enough to change it? My answer is no. What do you think. Let's hear your opinions instead of picking and finding fault with what Mowbar says give your opinion. Tell us why you think we don't need change because I'm just after telling you why we DO need change.

Awwww now, this is a discussion board and anyone that posts on it surely expects other posters to either agree or question their post. Otherwise, what's the point of it?
None of the questions you've asked relate to anything I've posted. I merely asked Mowbar to back up his assertion. If you're going to make a point then you should be able to back it up. Any fool can (and some do) post untruths for dramatic effect but again, what's the point? Generally on hoganstand, the point is that it suits the agenda they have, in this case that Terry Hyland shouldn't be the manager.
On the questions you've asked my general answer is I don't know. How would I? I don't know if the players are good enough or if it's the system that's holding them back. They got to the AIQF two years ago and there were few complaints. We were playing this defensive style then so why not the criticisms then?
For what it's worth I think that perhaps the defensive system that served us so well in Hyland's early period has proven difficult for him to evolve from. I think he attempted it last year and we ended up being too open at the back. I think there are probably a few lads playing on reputation and ultimately that's the manager's fault if it's true.
But I'm not sure what it is that people want to see on the pitch. What system is it that people want to see emulated? Most teams play a defensive system but the good ones are very good in the transition to attack. I think we're too slow. I'm not sure we have the players to change that.
The one thing I don't think is that there are players playing for their clubs that haven't been given a chance yet.
I think we have, or have had, the best players on the panel and apart from U-21s that might come through this year then we need to make the best of what we have.
