SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP - FAVOURITES

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Winners of Ballinagh/Kingscourt play the Gaels, winners of Cootehill/Killygarry vs Mullahoran, Lacken V Killeshandra and Castlerahan V Ramor.

Kingscourt have played Mullahoran and lost in the prelim round, then lost to Ramor, drew and then beat Cuchullains, drew with Ballinagh and play them this weekend in the replay. This will be their sixth match before the Q/Final, whilst the Gaels have played one match where they beat Lacken. Its a bit of a shambles really, and needs to be looked at for next year.

My view is that its wide open this year, Gaels are certainly favourites, but they're beatable if any team is up for it on the day.

Looking at results, kingscourt also bet drumgoon in there also. So that will be 7 games.

So how will games go this weekend. My predictions

Killygarry v Cootehill - could go either way, killygarry better team but unpredictable. Killygarry just.
Lacken v Killeshandra - Killeshandra going well, but Lacken might be too strong.
Kingscourt v Ballinagh - Kingscourt getting stronger as championship progresses and will advance.
Ramon v Castlerahan - Castlerahan to seek revenge and take this.

What's other people's thoughts

The cynic in me says more games played = more money for CB !!
In my opinion it has nothing to do with football - hasn't been for years - its all about the bottom line !!

More money. Jesus wept. They drew twice.

And with all the draws they had wouldn't you think they could give a little something back to the Gaa supporter by offering a triple header without looking for 2 gates they same day. It's the first Sunday in a long time there no matches on TV so it could be quiet easily arranged. But as usual money talks like it always done. Time for big change

I agree a triple header should have being arranged and it definitely is money why there will be two gates. County board in trouble financially and have asked clubs to nearly double their contributions to pay for the debt on Breffni Park.

Admission prices for games in the semi-finals of Meath football and hurling championships will be 10 euro with under 18s to be charged 3 euro and under 14s free.
Students and OAPs can get refund at concession gate on production of appropriate ID. General admission had been just five euro for matches in the earlier rounds.
Meanwhile the main admission charge into finals will be €15

S Golderick ...... Any your point is?

I wasn't making a point as such, I was merely asking a question ?

Thanks to those people who kindly replied with the info.

and to the person who inferred that it was all about money, so do you think that the county board fixed it so that Kingscourt drew twice and after extra time against Ballinagh aswell. seven games is a lot to play and possibly not make the quarters.

Money is short at the moment, but you'd have to wonder about the amount of money Croke Park have made over the last 5/6 weekends, and where this money is going, because its not going back into grassroots football. Time for County Boards and Clubs to take a stand against the fat cats up in HQ.

In terms of the championship fixtures, I think its unfair that there's a match at 8pm on Sunday night, given that lads have to return to college and kids have school etc.
But for those expecting triple headers, thought must be given to the people who have to steward these matches, it would be very unfair to make these people stand around for 4 to 5 hrs at a time.

So we can't have triple headers because stewards can't stand for 4/5 hours? I've heard it all now! Ppl stand on their feet 12 hours at work. Deanmartin stick to slagging off Hyland because no know few little about the runnings of a CB or fixtures committee

Deanmartin its 2 gates on the same day in the same ground no matter what way you dress it up. And that's not feasible in these economic times. Delegating stewarding can easily be fixed and that's a poor excuse to use. What about the extra cash our own CB has made from replays? Is it not time for them to payback the loyal supporters who go to every match? Yes blame Croke Park . Blame everybody except the ppl who make the decisions. That's who should be blamed

I'm not defending the County Board, but people stand at work all day and get paid for it, there's a lot of stewards out there who get paid nothing for it.

If you don't want to go to the 3rd match, don't go, simple as that!

Big result for the Leaguers last night. In fairness to them they have shown that the Castlerahan result wasn't a fluke with 2 impressive wins against Cootehill and Lacken since that.

Killygarry v Cootehill sounds like it was a thriller, anybody at it? Will Killygarry have much left in the legs for Mullahoran next weekend after going to extra time twice?

The Killygarry v cootehill game was very exciting and some nice passages of play. Killygarry's fitness showed in injury time, very fit team and a strong bench then previous years so legs shouldn't be a issue. Mullahoran will be a step up and Mullahoran will be more physical then Cootehill.

Very good win for Castlerahan this evening in Breffni Park by 9 points, and this with star man David Wright still injured, impressive stuff!
