Who's the favourites for this years championship, few shocks already with Shannon Gaels and Kill winning their opening games?

Who'd be considered the favourites for this lads? How are Munterconnacht looking? They were threatening to make strides a few years ago. What about Templeport and all their good underage teams, will it bear fruit this year?

Ballymachugh and Muntirconnacht are the two Division 2 teams in the Junior championship this year and would've expected to be one of the favourites this year. However, both teams have lost their opening group games.

In Group A, Kill should now secure top spot with Muntirconnacht finishing 2nd assuming both teams can see off Maghera and Corlough. Corlough ran up a big score against Maghera so it remains to be seen whether they have improved this year or have Maghera regressed.

In Group B, Ballymachugh will have their work cut out after their surprising loss to Shannon Gaels which one would've though would be the easiest of their 3 group games. They now need to beat both Templeport and Cornafaen to have any chance of progressing to the latter stages. Ballymachugh, Templeport and Cornafaen would all have designs on winning it out this year so at least one of these teams will be faced with an early exit, perhaps even 2 of them if Shannon Gaels can get another win and nab one of the top 2 spots in the group.

In Group C, Kildallan should finish top with Mountnugent and Knockbride battling it out for 2nd in the group.

The Division 3 league form seems to standing up better in the championship with the Division 2 teams having lost their opening games in the Junior Championship and Drung from Division 3 winning their first 2 games in the Intermediate championship.

My predictions would be:
Group winners: Kill, Templeport, Kildallan
Play off places: Muntirconnacht, Cornafaen, Mountnugent - Cornafaen to progress through play offs and secure the last semi final spot
Outright Winners: Templeport

If any team in the junior championship are worried about Maghera well then I think it's time you try and amalgamate with another club.

Trolling club teams now mowbar. Your a class act. I bet you were a junior player yourself at best. Maughera have the same right to respect as every other community. Your remark insults not just the 15 who take to the field for them but a club with one of fastest rising populations in the county.

Exactly Sceptical. Their Junior team might not be going so well at the moment but For a team like Maghera its about keeping the club going until the underage system they implemented a few years back kicks in. They have an U16 team in a divison 2 semi final which is highly encouraging. Templeport were in a very similar position a few years back. Whipping boys of Junior football. But with a good underage now for me are one of the favorites for the Junior Championship. Munterconnaught had a surprising defeat against Kill however I feel they got a terrible refereeing decision with the sending off and will still progress out of that group.

Read my post anyway you like I spoke with people from that club this week end and they tell me any quality player they develop they are poached by the neighbours sad don't you think. I am showing no disrespect to the club at all for their situation as I see it is dire sad but true. By the way Sceptical I played at intermediate and senior level and hold medals at both levels.
I feel sorry for the club when their better players are poached from them sad isn't it. They may well have a quality set up but when they cannot hold their players they are flogging a dead horse.

I was at the Kill v Munterconnaught game last friday. Good enough game. Kill were in full control, much faster and fitter team.
Munterconnaught man threw a punch at Kill man and Kill man hit back. Both deserved red cards.

Kill should progress on to semi finals now.

One thing I noticed & I didnt like. Kills No. 10 got elbowed in the face & had his hand over his face as he was in a deal of pain but the minute this happened the umpire ran down the field & told him to get up & eventually he did so. So the umpire held his flag up called the referee over and told him to send this player off, I heard him say this. So the referee gave the player a black card for verbal abuse but yet all this player said to the umpire was "he hit me in the face" as I heard him. This umpire should be banned from all games for picking on players. This carry on isn't fair. As this player is a great footballer he was picked on it my opinion

I'd say Templeport are the favourites should be a good battle with them and cornafean this weekend, Killdallon could give it a good rattle too though. Expect them to beat Knockbride this weekend.

Good entertaining match in Killeshandra today with Cornafean getting a one point win over Templeport. The reds had a lot of wides and should have the game won well but were lucky to have held on in the end. Templeport took some nice long range points and Ben Kiernan got a goal from a 45.

wishfulman, that's a bit deragoratory. Where did Larry and Peter start off as well as Jayo before helping us with an Ulster title? Stephen King our captain, had spells in Junior championship as well as division three

Wishful thinking your attitude sums up what is wrong with Cavan football. A few clubs having an exaggerated opinion of themselves and looking down their noses at other clubs. There were a lot of neutral fans at the match yesterday because they knew both teams would play with a bit of determination and honesty.

how do ye know i was saying it in a derogatory way and not summing up the skill and class that does be displayed at junior level...maybe ye all jumped on the wrong end off the stick cause ye immediately think of junior football as being off a poor standard where a player could score a goal from a 45 in a championship match due to the lack off skill off the opposition and not due to the skill of the player taking the 45.

For shame guys, for shame..hang yer heads

So Kill, Cornafean & Mountnugent through to the semis with Munterconnaught, Templeport & Knockbride to battle it out for the last place. When is these games on?

Would expect Templeport to come through the back door, mountnugent would be the outsiders at this stage in semi's so its wide open between cornafean kill and templeport
