Replying To The Quiet Man:  "At least D McCabe is not mentioned. Give me McDermott anytime above McCabe and those of you that don't know the man he is a respectful individual well disciplined and I am sure he would bring in the quality regardless of what club they are from.
I 100% favor an outsider O'Rourke Poacher even Banty.

If local give me John Brady and John Young anytime bring in Mark McKeever and Dessie Brady as selectors ."
John Brady John Young McKeever and Dessie Brady. None of which have any experience in a top quality inter county setup. That would be a disasterous team

Hate to break it lads...Mickey Graham is on his way to Longford, it's common knowledge within the Longford GAA circles.

A massive loss to Cavan in my opinion, if my sources are correct, Peter Reilly will be the next Cavan manager, he was actually on the interview panel when McGleenan was given the job.

If my sources are correct, then its a sad day for Cavan Football, it will set us back 20 years. Whilst he was a good footballer on the pitch, his behaviour is off the pitch is sometimes disgraceful, anyone that came up against him even when he managed Knockbrides underage teams will tell you that he has absolutely no manners, even with his own players.

Cavan need a manager with a cool head, someone who can keep their emotions under wraps in order to make the best decisions. Peter Reilly is no that.

The one thing I'll say if Peter Reilly gets it is that he might be able to entice the U21 players from 2011-2014 back into the fold, he coached them for two years, was successful at provincial level, so maybe the players will work with him.

His backroom team will be crucial as he has never managed at this level before.

You will have to get a new set of sources.... Peter Reilly will not be the next cavan manager

its looking increasingly likely that cavan are about to sign up another unproven manager, tbh i can't blame the selection committee, the truth is that no high profile man put his name forward to take over. that basically says it all about peoples opinions on where cavan are going. its sad but true, rather than all our underage success being a stepping stone its been the highlight of recent years.. we must accept that. i do often look at some other counties and wonder how they get the managers that have competed at the top. Roscommon, Fermanagh, Kildare, armagh. all counties on a similar level as ourselves.

It will be 8 years since the start of the great u21 run next year. Most of the pick of those teams are already in or around the panel.... G Mac, Clarke, McLoughlin McVeety, K and C Brady, Faulkner, Madden, Murray, Moynagh (gone for the year). We are seeing the so-called Golden Generation in action (they brought us to Div 1!).
Realistically there is nobody going from the earlier u21 teams going to resurrect an inter-county career at 27-28 years old, Peter Reilly or no Peter Reilly. Jack Brady and Barry Reilly are the only 2 you would be looking at and they have already given it a go. From the later teams, Gerry Smith, Dillon, Buchanan are the only ones you would like to see back but good and all as these lads are they will not close the gap to Tyrone or Donegal. The new manager needs to start with a blank page. The hopes built on u21 titles have faded long ago as far as I'm concerned.

Replying To theDagger1986:  "I see on the paper that Aidan O Rourke is in for the job with Stephen Poacher, Mike McGurn and an ex Cavan player on his team. Looks an impressive enough team.
Also in are Mickey Graham with Dermot McCabe.
Jason and Peter are no longer in the running for the manager position."
I have my suspicion that Peter Reilly will be on the ticket with Aidan O'Rourke, I think that he has a good team put together, we need a very good s+c coach and mike mcgurn is probably one of the best in the county, poacher is a very good coach too in touch with the modern game and I don't know much about Aidan but at least he has a bit of inter county management experience, I wouldn't be unhappy if he got it.

Who has Aidan O'Rourke managed at intercounty level before, and did he achieve anything of note with them? I know very little about him.

That's great news best place for him and no loss to Cavan if one is to be honest.
Cavan needs a man that knows no one in the circle in Cavan but might get a quality back-room team that will support him going forward.

So I had a quick google search. Correct me if I'm wrong, but during his tenure Louth were relegated to Division 3 without winning a game? Is that right?

Thats right, in his second year. To be fair he did well enough in Div2 in his first season and it looked like he had put some unity into the Louth setup - not an easy thing to do. But it sort of collapsed on him as time went on. As such he is an unproven entity.
I heard Eamon Dunne, another Louth connection, mentioned. That maybe more as part of a ticket than a leading name. Seemingly he has a good track record at underage and college level over there.

A wind up but considering the selection committee I would not be a bit surprised. I doubt however M. Graham will play second fiddle to D. McCabe considering that he has won two senior titles as manager and the others have won nothing. So the fun is only starting.

It is not a wind up. Co board take the cheaper option once again as opposed to ORourke's team of Poacher mc Gurn and P Reilly.
