Terrific win for the college. Ghost of 75 finally exorcised. Fitting tribute to the late Hugh Reynolds RIP.

Absolutely delighted for the team of 2015 and what wonderful football they played today.
I had the honour of playing on the 1972 Team and in my opinion the present team is vastly
more skilful and talented than we were.. Well done Lads and just two more games to win.
Oh and by the way my Fathers name was Larry and not Pat !

A fantastic day for Cavan and St Pat's. It is great to see our great county achieving success. Delighted for all players and management!

Played on the McRory team myself in 2000 when we got to the 1/4 final if I remember correctly. A young Sean Cavanagh was playing on the Armaghg college team that won it that year.

I also knew Hugh Reynolds personally so yesterday was a little emotional for me (as I am sure it was for many others) but I am absolutely thrilled with the win. Well done to all involved!

When we went to play Pats Armagh , Enniskillen every college.Got to see their setup.... St pats Grounds & Facilities were a disgrace. Thankfully someone woke up & recognised the direct link between Cavan Success & St St pats as the main feeder of Top Quality players..

They are the main feeder at the expense of every community school in the county and to the county minors. Kids traveling to pats when they could attend their local school and boost football and academic success there.
And don't tell me you get a better education in Pats. If the ability is in the child a good teach will help them thrive. They go to Pats because their is a bias towards Pats players in the eyes of Cavan football.
Incidentally we had three minors from Kingscourt playing in the Ulster VEC final yesterday. They were on the Patrician school team who were defeated by Castleblaney yesterday. There was no mention of them in the press or on Hogan stand in the build up. Were they the poor relation?
I recently highlighted inequality between Pats and other schools in the county and our players playing in surrounding counties but Hogan Stand failed to publish my article. Probably because it was either too controversial or too close to the truth.

How long more will the minor squad be without the Pats players. Only about 8 of them play on the team but about 18 held back from training.
Also when the minors play challenge matches the Pats players dont have to travel with their so called "team mates" to watch the game, whereas all the other players on the squad do.

I stand to be corrected on this but the Pats players on the minor squad have not been available to play for Cavan minors in any challenge match to date. So much for team bonding and developing as a squad. Very much an us and them scenario !!

Also Pats success = County success !!!. Pats haven't won the MacCrory cup since 1972. In between Cavan have had success at Senior, Minor and U21.

St Brendans in Kerry
Jarlaths Tuam
St pats navan

A host of College names in the North.

look I understand where your coming from, but my point is if you follow past All Ireland Winners it generally leads back to School success at the highest level. These particular institutes have produced some outstanding footballers. As regards St pats education I think every school is pretty even at the moment.

Finally not knocking VEC Competitions or taking away any of your success. But to Win the Mc Rory or Hogan Cup come on its as good or better than any Ulster Minor Competition...

and that is exactly how it is seen, more important than an Ulster Minor Championship !!!!!!

Stirring it, the MacRory cup is a very tough competition and many within Ulster would view it as more prestigious than the Ulster Minor Championship, myself included. That's a matter of opinion though.

Also, there appears to be good communication and co-operation between the Minor team and St Pats teams, it is definitely a help to our Minors playing and winning in the MacRory competition as it is a great standard of football.

Cavan's dominance in Ulster ended around the same time as St Pats stopped being competitive in Ulster, so there appears to be a correlation.

Finally, well done to the St Pat's lads, great performance and result.

yeah I can see the direct correlation between Pats winning 12 titles and Cavan winning a National league, 39 ulster senior titles, 5 all irelands, 6 ulster u 21 titles and 6 minor titles !!! Its makes perfect sense - don't know how I missed that and me with a degree in Maths !!

And this sums up my point that its Pats first and county second. And we wonder why lads are leaving county panels. Put yourself in the shoes of the other young lads training hard to be treated like second class citizens.

Stirring it - Im quite sure that any of the recent departures from the County Senior Panel was a result of St Pats success.
Who in recent times has left the minor or U21s because of St Pats.

The fact is, the County Board tried to rule the roost over St Pats and they were told where to go by the management of St Pats, and the parents of the players.

If theres any issues with Cavan Football, dont blame St Pats for that, try looking at the County Board.

A spurious relationship there Informer.

The end to Cavan's dominance (and Pat's competitiveness) came when the 6 counties got their GAA structures up and running in the early-1960s, and then passed us out. That and a populaiton decline from >80k to <55 in the 1950's.

Ah the good old days when there were 25% more Cavan people and nobody else in Ulster could play footbal...

You know what you have posted above is not the truth. By the way Cavan County Board have been more than facilitating towards St Pat's. The issues came from one person and it was like a domino effect, you know this is true.

Seriously Well said, Mowbar. Deanmartin, your comments are disgraceful and totally untrue. Cavan County Board have been nothing but supportive to St Pat's, at a cost to both other schools in Cavan and the County Minor Team. And have gotten absolutely no acknowledgement or thanks from St Pat's for it, either. Don't think anyone would agree that the overall problems with Cavan Football are down to St Pats but they do have a seriously negative impact on the County Minors who are trying to prepare for an Ulster Championship. If Cavan are again knocked out in the first round, everyone will blame the Minor Management and County Board. No one will ask about the impact the single mindedness of the St Pat's Management had on there preparation. It's a great achievement for those lads to win the McRory and i hope they enjoy there success. They have earned it. But it should not be at the cost of County Minor success. Do Cavan County Board not have numerous full time coaches in St Pat's on a weekly basis??

So the McRory cup is for players who must be under eighteen-and-a-half at the start of the tournament (that is, be under eighteen at the start of the school year). The Hogan Cup is for minors so what players are going to lose out???

Well said SS1 - what Pats have achieved is a fantastic but as you say it is achieved to the detriment of the minor squad and other schools in the county.
When we look back at the county achievements it will not list the MacCrory cup !!
Its no disrespect to the players on the team they are hard working young men but they are being given preferential treatment
Now its either as a result of the Pats management and the parents of the players not allowing the kids to be available to the minor squad or the minor management is giving it . One is stronger than the other and no prizes for guessing which one.
The minors have played a number of challenge matches this year without the Pats players being available which is of no benefit to management or the squad. I get it that they were playing maccroy cup games but they didnt even have to travel to watch their so called team mates.
How do you build a team spirit when half the squad is missing.? How can tactics be decided? How much longer will the minor management be without the Pats players?
Minor league starts this weekend and the championship is 10 weeks away. Fantastic preparation. !!!
As i said in a previous post - the tail is wagging the dog in Cavan !!
