The singling out of players for criticism by anaonymous contributors from the comfort of their sitting rooms is cowardly. I dont ever remember a time where there were so many demands made of inter county players, too many in my view. On top of that players have never had to deal with accusations and criticism on social media which can be pretty nasty at times. I wonder did any of our expert critics ever have an off day themselves on the field or did they ever even tog out ?? Whatever about criticising tactics / systems in an amateur sport there should be no tolerance of criticism of AMATEUR players, these lads go out to do their best and that is all anyone can ask of them. Im sorry I suppose what I am trying to say is our best players should be available to the senior manager and a good showing in Div 2 should take precedance over another U-21 campainge.. In my view an U-17 and U-19 Championship should in time replace the current set up...iits only my thinking... Surely at this stage people can see that there are too many players all over playing both U-21 and senior... Its not negitave talk so give me some feed-back....?

Personally I think the U21 is a great competition and bridge from minor to senior . Gives lads that are not ready for senior more time to develop and could be the difference in getting more lads to stick at it and maybe unearth a few diamonds . No harm in having a bigger pool of "development players" for want of a better word because a lot of the time the lesser players develop faster than expected and the stars of underage stagnate .
As regards to the senior panel for the league campaign , we've toughed it out before when our very survival in Division 3 was at stake , gave the U21 setup its due respect and were rewarded , and managed to stay up . Last year when promotion was a must we still stuck to our principles . I think it was brave and showed all our players that management has full confidence in them . I would be reluctant to change what we have been doing . If other counties operate differently that's their business , we shouldn't be afraid to do things our own way .

I think you'll find that most of the criticism is not directed at the players, in fact, most people on this forum support
the players through thick & thin. In essence, I would agree that as amateur players, far too much is being asked of our players, and the only ones that are reaping the rewards are the fat cats in Croker. Granted, there's pride in the jersey, but theres little or no financial reward for these guys who spend endless winter nights, some travelling great distances for training.
The GAA are an amateur organisation, therefore, the players should not be asked to train like professionals.
One of the last club matches played in Cavan in 2014, was a junior league final in early December 2014,12 months since the season started, some of these guys have been playing football since Jan 14.
Unless the GAA wake up, and get rid of the silly competitions, and make sure that all competitions are played within the one year, with players getting a maximum break at the end of the season, there will be player burn out - if you look at the past 2/3 weeks, countless top class county footballers & hurlers retiring before they turn 30.
As for the club structure in Cavan, dont me started...on one hand we have players playing too many games, and the non-county players playing nothing, the Breffni league was set up in order to give non-county players regular football, yet when the fixtures come out, its one game every 3 weeks!

The proper development of players is vital to the success of a senior team. the current under-age systems development squads, Minor and the under 21, all work with the players in a closed environment, so that the most appropriate coaching is correctly applied.
Just because a player is, for example, physically strong enough to compete above his age group doesn't mean he should, for he can be emotionally not mature enough to make the 'forced' transition, he might not have the game awareness needed to compete successfully at the upper level, and this exposure will retard his development.

As in Turloc Mooney? Out for a long time. Serious injury before Christmas in challenge game. Paul O Connor not sure. Having seen a lot of football last year Tom Hayes and Enda Hession are who we need to get into team. Mackey very close to being back.

Yes. I heard it was a broken ankle. Normal recovery for that is about 6 weeks but as you say perhaps it is more serious.

Mooney got injured before Christmas against Louth. He has been very unforunate with injuries, did the cruciate 2 years ago.

There is the break in the National League after this weekends fixtures so that should give the likes of Mackey a chance of being for Round 3.
