Can anyone tell me why we are preparing to play a Division 1 team, who finished in the top four in the country in the league, by playing two Division 4 teams?

In previous years, Cavan played very few challenge matches ahead of the championship but the players are now going to play 4 in the space of just a month. Seems to be a marked departure from previous years.

I see no problem with it but I don't see the point in playing New York and London. What will matches against cannon fodder tell us about the team?


Well I suppose we will be doing the same, playing opposition from lower leagues. First Cavan and then Fermanagh or Antrim. It will be great prep for an Ulster Final. Still I hear what you are saying, i guess we could do with stiffer challenges to prepare for July.

lose to us and you could have Tyrone/Donegal to help you prepare for July - who knows, you might get Cork in the last 12 and Dublin in the Q-Final! If you Monaghan men are to prove the top 6 side you claim to be, that could be the best way to do it!

Club games on friday evening and then a county game v london on sat evening...no fear of burnout or injury's in cavan

Lads / Lassies, hopefully this post makes it up here, there is a great event to get a good discussion going on the Monaghan / Cavan and the All-Ireland as a whole and is being held on your doorstep (Kilmore in Cavan) on Friday week (8 May 2015).

The Ballybay Senior team (Monaghan) are hosting an All Ireland preview night and have secured a very interesting panel - Declan O'Sullivan (Kerry), Michael Meehan (Galway), Anthony Moyles (Meath) and Kevin Cassidy (Donegal). Declan Bogue (Author and journalist) will MC the event and should ensure an interesting debate between the panel.

Four course meal, wine and other entertainment on the night also, all for €50!! Promises to be brilliant!

Yeah I went along for a look. Atrocious conditions. Experimental Cavan team, some of the big hitters weren't used, no McEnroe, no Rory Dunne, no Mackey, no McVeety, no Damien Reilly, no R Flanagan. Gearoid, M Dunne, McDermott, McLoughlin, F Flanagan, Argue, all played.

Joshua Hayes is back. Ciaran Brady started as did Sankey, and Ray Galligan was in the goals. Don't be entirely surprised to see him play against Monaghan either, he's being used to hit 45's and free's. If he's worked enough on his shot stopping and catching since being drafted in, then I wouldn't be surprised to see him play.

Read nothing into the result, London were beyond woeful. Cavan played the game in second gear.

True enough Ned, the game isn't really worth analysing unless you want to tell the boys how many players scored from play etc, which they love to hear.
Damien Reilly and Mackey both came on. Ray Galligan only took one attacking set play and it was a 45 that he took short.
Good to see Josh back and always nice to win but London were very poor.

It was not a special match it was just the official opening of their new pitch and grounds. It's a credit to a very small community and their pitch is a credit to them. Congratulations Butlersbridge on a job well done. A lot of good will in that community I can tell you. Sean

Ned_Stormcrow - Im trying to figure out what you mean by the big-hitters, are you referring to Cavan ? you talk about big-hitter as if you were talking about Dublin or Kerry!

On another note, a poor Galway Team & Performance managed 2 - 18 against New York at the weekend...

Great to see Hayes back as he is a very tidy defender... These games are totslly worthless and I'd say management would be better off without them.... Tyrone are famous for never playing friendly matches and it never done them any harm...

He did get a run in the second half if I remember correctly, I had to leave about 5 mins or so before the end, woeful weather and the game was well wrapped up. Indeed it is good to have Hayes back, doubt he'll make the championship team but you never know, our best hope to do a job on McManus I think.

Ned, Have to agree with that, Josh may be the man for McManus. I also think Martin Reilly is the man for Gollogly. Seen him keep him very queit in Brewster last year. An awful lot goes through Gollogly and if he's given carte blanche he can pull the strings. I know its robbing peter to pay paul.....

it may be but i think it'd be worth it. Mackey can play that link role better than Martin and Martin will still knock over frees and 45s.

Lads, Josh is a good player but no way he would be first choice to mark McManus. For me its McLoughlin or maybe Killian Clarke.
