I'd be a bit concerned about how we're going to handle McManus. If Hayes was back I'd put him on him, but if not then McLoughlin. Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1022 - 13/04/2015 11:13:09 1713613 Link 0 |

Yesterday's result was a good one for Cavan, all the pressure and expectation will be on Monaghan in 5 weeks time. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 572 - 13/04/2015 12:18:18 1713670 Link 0 |
Cavan will be beat by Monaghan , cause Cavan have no game plan other than defend defend defend. Cavan have the making of a good team but need a manager over them not a dictator. The players are not allowed play the way they should be playing, Look at the number of people that have left the panel that on its own is an indictment of the current state of Cavan football. The sooner this years county football for Cavan is over the better so they can get new management in and get some of the players that wont play back into the squad the better. nmel (Cavan) - Posts: 50 - 13/04/2015 13:28:23 1713712 Link 0 |

Have to say I agree with you Evan 0 about Dunne, he is harshly judged, looks for ball and is given it when he has a defender on top of him or away out on the corner. I think he can be as good as Mc Manus for Monaghan. Two seasons ago when he was nominated for all star he was as good as best in the country. Young Hayes is not experienced enough to be in the senior setup yet but is maybe a future prospect. Don't know how useful the New York games can be for judgin performance of players for championship. Judgin by reports comin through from New York, the games were a free for all and rough to the point of dangerous. Followed Anglo Celt blog last night, any word on Barry Reilly? shannon414 (Cavan) - Posts: 228 - 13/04/2015 17:27:36 1713828 Link 0 |
I agree with Evano and Shannon414....its shamefull posters on here giveing out about our forwards when players out the field are slowing down the play and passing the ball over and back before generraly loosing it.... No wonder keating and Tierney walked away...as for the USA trip...what a waste of time Sean66 (Cavan) - Posts: 440 - 13/04/2015 17:51:26 1713839 Link 0 |
Any chance you might take a trip to new York, one way of course. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1333 - 13/04/2015 19:29:32 1713872 Link 0 |
I wasn't attacking Dunne, he's a fantastic shooter. As good as we've had, amazing accuracy, his 3 points against Galway were as good as you'd see anywhere. However, let's be realistic here, he's limited due to his physic. He's not particularly fast or powerful or tough. He's been consistently muscled out by tough defenders. Anyone suggesting that he's in the same bracket as McManus is fooling themselves. He's a fine player and he can and has caught fire in games and looked outstanding. But he has also been extremely inconsistent, has contributed very little when he's off his game as he was against Laois, Down, Meath. McManus is an All Star standard forward that would get his place on any team in the country. JonSmith (Cavan) - Posts: 1451 - 13/04/2015 21:45:59 1713930 Link 0 |
Kildare Blue - Monaghan's result had no bearing whatsoever on the Championship. Monaghan's National League campaign merely proved that they are well able to compete with the top teams in the Country, whist Cavan struggled against some of the poorest. deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 14/04/2015 09:54:32 1713978 Link 0 |
Right son Deanmartin then, what way would you set up the team to play against Monaghan? We need not only a plan A but also a plan B from you? Off you go.. P.Mus (Cavan) - Posts: 386 - 14/04/2015 12:51:04 1714049 Link 0 |
PMus - How did Cork beat Monaghan on Sunday? its simple, they outscored them. The only way to win a match is to score more than your opponents but unfortunately, Hyland doesnt set the team up to attack, therefore, our scoring ratio is quite low and we cannot get away from teams. deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 14/04/2015 15:33:26 1714112 Link 0 |
O I see that's how it should be done I get you now sir. P.Mus (Cavan) - Posts: 386 - 14/04/2015 16:22:01 1714135 Link 0 |
PMus - but you and I both know exactly how the team will be set up - defend, defend & defend!! deanmartin (Cavan) - Posts: 643 - 14/04/2015 16:32:55 1714147 Link 0 |
Enough already Dean and P Mus, we have enough scrapping to do with the neighbours. MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 489 - 14/04/2015 16:47:31 1714161 Link 0 |
The unfortunate reality is you can't buy forwards, nonetheless I think the Cavan management are guilty of ignoring the most fundamental part of Gaelic football over the past 2 seasons i.e. scoring. I firmly believe that this Cavan team is a lot weaker than the sum of its parts. It's entirely frustrating as a Cavan fan to see Monaghan where they are, flying high in division 1, lifting provincial titles, league titles etc. Not for one second do I think our players are any worse than what they have, in fact we have the benefit of picking from successful underage teams, so although we've improved to some extent, I think the current manager has taken us as far as he can. Deanmartintynan - great tactical know how there. I imagine you'll have a line of county managers looking for you to tell them more. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1333 - 14/04/2015 17:54:23 1714203 Link 0 |
There is no way Hyland is going to change his tatics at this stage so we are going to have to suffer it... I dont think this game will live long in the memory unless we sneak a win but that will be a big ask... Sean66 (Cavan) - Posts: 440 - 14/04/2015 18:03:07 1714206 Link 0 |
Sean66 I agree things aren't going to change, but you have to be hopeful nonetheless. Cavan have the players to play a running game. Why not do it? Ned_Stormcrow (Cavan) - Posts: 1022 - 14/04/2015 18:17:15 1714213 Link 0 |
