Ulster SFC 2015. Cavan v Monaghan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Playing Monaghan on a sunny (hopefully) Sunday afternoon in Breffni. I'm counting down the days already! Winner of this game plays either Fermanagh or Antrim in semis. This is Cavan best opportunity to get to that elusive Ulster final in years!!

Aaahhh pride of 85...someone a bit bitter towards cavan....being in cavans shadow for the last 100 years would do that I suppose...a couple of decent seasons for Monaghan won't change that...Monaghan to fall short.....like always..!!

Jesus didn't take long for the slagging to return, can we at least leave that til next year?!

Good draw for both of us really. Monaghan will look at it as a big chance to get back to the final, but so will Cavan. In a derby like this it'll be tight and the winners will be favourites to win the semi regardless. Roll on next summer!

Well said patk. Some lads spouting childish nonsense already. Cavan will need to get new trainer appointment correct and develop their gameplan to have any chance.

If we don't win Ulster then I want Monaghan to win it.
No time for this rubbish at all except if it's funny banter.
My best friends are sound Monaghan men. There's nothing wrong with friendly banter BUT abuse is out.

Could not have asked for a better draw!!!!
I think Monaghan will acquit themselves well in Division 1 next year and are more than capable of staying up . I think Cavan will survive in Division 2 as well despite being written off by a lot of our supporters .
If this happens we will have two teams and two sets of supporters full of confidence and optimism coming to a packed Breffni , a mouth watering prospect . This is what proper championship football is all about . It will be close no matter what and the extra carrot at the end of the string is the semi final draw . With all due respect to those two teams , the winner of Cavan/Monaghan will be seen as favourite to contest an Ulster final .

Works both ways Supermon.
Something to look forward to over the long Winter months.

Looks forward too no doubt but as the game approaches the fear of losing will be unbearable for both sets of supporters. Should give Monaghan's older players the appetite for another year.

Good man slasher, sure maybe we'll travel to the match together from our place of exile.

If we continue with the same puke football next year it won't matter a lot who we meet in Ulster - we're going nowhere anyway.

I think we'll see a change of approach next year. Very few places on the team are a given any more and there are lots of lads from the Junior team just waiting for a chance to show their worth. It's near time the U-21 stars made a statement as well.

The fact that a new coach is coming in means there will be a change of style, that's obvious,

great chance (realistic) of an Ulster final this year and that should really motivate the lads. hopefully we mix up the style this year and actually play "football" as I agree 100% with Joe Brolly's assessment that our style is the worst ever witnessed. I would like to see Enda Reilly and young Enda Hession feature both good footballers and know were the posts are.

Can't complain with that draw, a local derby against the nearest and dearest, and then a potential semi final against Fermanagh or Antrim. It's hard to know just where we're at right now after that year, I firmly believe this team is good enough to stay and compete in division 2, its just a matter of what the management has learned from the championship.

A lot will depend on who replaces Donnelly. Liam McHale would be decent, was talking to a few Mayo folk about him after I heard the rumours and by all means he's a top coach from what I heard.

I'd like to think your're right FoolsGold but how long will it take to develop a new system?
You have only to look at some of the best young players we have messing around with the ball in this years club championships
to see what I'm getting at.

It shouldn't take good players too long to adapt hopefully - with eveyone fit and available it would make it easier. Cian Mackey was Cavan's best player on the run in 2013, the one real player who could take players on and attack them.
The likes of Enda Hessin is a similiar type player

I would agree its time for U21 players who have been on the panel a while to make an impact.

Can Cavan really improve by enough to beat a Monaghan team that would be just ranked in the top 10 and no more ?. I don't think so, but I guess it's championship football and Cavan will be pumped up for it like the 2013 league game. So, I Monaghan match Cavan's fire in the belly attitude, then I fully expect our boys to win a scrappy tight game with about 5 or 6 pts to spare.

Hutto,

We will indeed. Long time no see.
We'll arrange that at a later date.
Hope all is well in the new abode.
