Where do you even start after a performance like that? The county in general has been on its knees in the last two weeks. Today and last week was a chance to put a smile back on peoples faces and all we got was two absolutely gutless and pathetic performances.
Are we even surprised about that group of fellas though? There is obviously something missing big time. How many finals have we lost in the last few years? How many times do we fail to get over the line when it matters. I know lads have came and gone from the team but it is always the same end result. That being said maybe we are just nowhere near good enough I mean some of the shooting and decision making was the worst ive seen in a long time.
Where to now? While I feel the players aren't there,I don't have much confidence in Graham either. Last week after the Kildare game he was playing the health card and sounded like he was calling on the government to step in. Hardly inspiring stuff from your manager. Terry realized we were limited but put in structures discipline and good organization and he got everything from the lads. Now its a complete mess and lads don't even know what there supposed to be doing and there isn't even a resemblance of aa game plan. Maybe its time we go and get Terry back.

Would have to agree with you, a very poor performance but you have to give youth a chance.
They won't get experience unless they're given a chance.
We looked flat where Roscommon looked fit, even without 8 of their first choice panel they always looked in control.
It doesn't augur well for next weekend but if they can't lift themselves for a clash against Monaghan there's just a slippery slope ahead of them.

Replying To MadgeKing:  "Ugghh! Sick tonight for sure. Today was the worst outing in the league since losing to Waterford on the last day a few years ago (sorry to remind you of that if had forgotten).

What worries me most after today is the apparent lack of mobility and fitness from some key players up the middle. Conroy is never going to win the 100m sprint but he is trying hard at 6 and deserves credit for it. A pacy centre forward will cause him big problems however. Martin Reilly a great servant but the attack loses its momentum too often when he picks up possession. Niall Murray looked disgusted at being taken off early.

Faulkner will have to stay at full back next week and hold the thing together, He looked at sea when out the field at times today and didn't have the legs to track back some times. Starting the man bun was an insult to the lads who stuck around for the year. It ended as expected- fitness and judgement lacking in the corner. Rossies put a runner on Gearoid and it kept him quiet too easily. Him and young Smith have a hard week ahead to sort out the kickouts with Galligan. You could not be optimistic about primary possession against the Monaghan midfield.

It will be very difficult to rally the team now. The only thing in Cavan's favour now is that all expectation has evaporated. That has always been the best way to be going into a Monaghan clash, because they always, and I mean always , mess it up when cast as favourites against Cavan. Will that be enough? It will have to be"
Do they? Up until last year, monaghan didn't lose to us in a meaningful game since the 2013 league. Kudos on the "man bun" line though, I enjoyed that one."
Sure I know lad. But Cavan ran them close each time when they had supposedly a clearly better team, and won last year after being relegated. Thats clutching at straws I know, especially after what we saw today.
It is very, very hard to see a starting 15 in that panel to win next week. Impossible to see it against Tyrone or Donegal. Can you imagine what the Red Hand would do to that team today?

Replying To The Quiet Man:  "You don't blame management. THE BUCK STOPS WITH MANAGEMENT.

I sat over and watched this game live and I am sorry to say Cavan had no game plan what so ever. Roscommon raised their game when ever they needed too. Cavan could not at any stage. I felt sorry for Christopher Conroy missing these simple shots. For he own's this pitch and knows what way the breeze blows ect and should have popped over these frees with his eyes closed. Home nerves I expect. Again Cavan were lucky to finish with 15 men. I hope going forward that if these are still the management that they look at this game and the Kildare game just to pick out those that are an liability for it goes on match after match. Too busy trying to be an idiot than playing the game as it should be. I know management don't send out these players to behave like moron's.

The game plan today I ask was it the players plan or the managements plan either way it was the wrong plan.
Monaghan next try and forget being relegated it's history and concentrate on beating Monaghan for it's an easy route to another Ulster final.

Also with the GAA new plan for next year if Cavan cannot win Ulster they will not be part of it."
You've come out with some classics over the years but this one takes the biscuit. Conroy knows "what way the breeze blows"! I didn't know the lad was a meterologist! Met Éireann struggle to call the weather right but he should know it!
And those "simple frees" - I don't think there was one inside the 45 metre line!
Very harsh also to be referring to players as "morons" and using terms like "idiot".
I'm as disappointed as anyone but, while I'm not one for changing the manager at a whim, serious questions have to be asked of the setup and tactics today.
Killian Brady struggled at full back last week and the backline as a whole was too loose so why was nothing changed this week?
Is there that little trust in the remainder of the panel that a clearly unfit Niall Murray was started? Cruel then to hook a great servant of Cavan football.
I actually thought Conroy, the frees aside, was one of the better players in the first half, kicking a good score from play, so I am unsure why he was taken off. We could have done with him late on as he can kick long range scores.
Why were we sending on 18 year old Oisin Brady when the game was in the melting pot at the end? A big ask of a young lad.
Thomas Galligan made a huge difference - why didn't he start or why wasn't he on earlier?
Like I said, those are just queries in terms of personnel. There could be serious questions about tactics too.

The lack of players from the finalists another matter

The set up and fitness of the team is because of the management and not club championship. Cavan conceded the most in Division 2,that because of a lack of defensive plan, attack was laboured

Niall Murray starting his first game since Armagh in McKenna Cup"
You're confusing standard with competitiveness.

Not confusingl anything. You just bring up the club scene regardless and don't look at the tactics, fitness and gameplan.

What I say today was a shambles! No fault to the lads as they were lambs to the slaughter. When you see the manager waiting on the government to pull the plug, you know you are in trouble.

The only thing that stuck me today was the lack of an inside forward line. How many times was madden outside the forward line? There was no one in there doing what Donis Smith was doing. Credit to young cormac o reilly, he took his chances. But we needs lads like niall clerkin, caoimhin, niall mc in there who know where the posts are.

We have too many so called great servants who don't show up when the ships are down. Power walking aronnd a pitch will not cut it at this level. People need to realise this.

When you see lads who wander of the panel thinking they are superstars and drift back in when it suits, isn't a culture you want. Maybe such player(s) should return to the media circuit. Some lads are better when they leave the panel than when they are actually on it.

Much has being said about Terry. And myself included was crytical of him. But his legacy has told its own story. It might be an idea to going to some of the defensive tactics he used as we are a joke at the back.

As for next week, time for us to dust ourselves down. Get defence ready and counter attack for our lives. Keep ball for as long as possible.

As for next year, the future is dire. Underage isn't there and players will be reluctant to commit to a second grade competition. Why would ya? Make that commitment to to play Waterford in the championship.

Head down and monaghan next week.
No hard luck stories.

The club situation isnt the problem. You would still have thae same players.
The problem is the county setup.
Too rigid too strict on the commitment players need to give.
We need to be more flexible on the training so players can work and play football.
If we can get our best players in and playing we have a good chance in kicking on but until we have our best players in we won't win anything

Naming players that were played out of position is no harm when there is no malice in it.
Regarding C. Conroy he could not get a starting game last year and really Center half back is not his position.
Reference frees I watched him pop them over from 50 meters in plus so he should have been able to as he trains a lot at it in Breffni. I will say again had to be Home game nerves. Wait until you read my next post you will enjoy it for you like to confront me but water of a ducks back and there will be no lash back from me.

Cant hide that we are delighted with result and getting back up to Div 1 but was shocked and to be honest saddened that you were relegated. All I knew coming into the game is that you were promotion candidates and didnt know you had exposure to the trap door.
Think we have a lot in common with population, passion for the game, tradition and there has been very little between us in the many games we gave played over last decade. Your county final was a great advertisement for the club game in Cavan.
While we might have enjoyed a little more success over the last years,we are still on a very similar roller coaster and the reaction tonight here reads very familiar to what appears on our fora when things dont go well.
You dont belong in Div 3 and hopefully you get quick bounce out of it. The word seems to be that the GAA will delay the exclusion from Sam Maguire competition by a year due to Covid.

McGleenan came in in 2017. In the league we drew with Monaghan & Kerry and bet Mayo away. 3 decent results. Played Monaghan in the first round and was narrowly bet.

In 2018, drew to Clare away with a team full of debutantes (Most aren't to be seen now). Then went on to gain promotion back up to division 1. Then played Donegal in Ballybofey and played quite poor but was not hammered. Then took on All-Ireland finalists Tyrone in the qualifiers and put up a very decent display and was narrowly bet. Gearoid McKiernan even got MOTM.

But then the vast majority wanted McGleenan out? And so he left.

Mickey has came in and picked up a single result in D1 in 2019. Fair enough got to the Ulster final but a win over Monaghan was due. (4th attempt in 7 years).

2020 has been a shambles. The opener against Armagh in the league set the tone for the year. Division 3 football for 2021 is just not where you want to be. From potentially breaking into the 'top 6' over the past number of years we are now at best ranked 17th in Ireland going by league form.

I agree with that 100%. Sometimes if your local and likeable it appears as if you are giving leeway in terms of performance.
In reality his two years have been a disaster 4 wins from 14 in the league is not good enough. If you were to compare win percentage rates with the previous managers it's well below matty and terry . I would not be suprised if it's even below val Andrew's or tommy Carr.
I would not be shocked if he walks away after next week. Its not working out and he might know that himself.

There is teams in Division 3 on a par with Div 2, so will not be straightforward to bounce straight back.
Derry will be eager to get out of Div 3.
Tipperary, Longford, Fermangh will all be a battle.

The second Tier Tailtean Cup is what Cavan will be playing in next year ,so they should aiming to win it. They haven't won anything at Senior level.

Depends what sort of panel is there next year. If they get some players back and don't lose many they should be thereabouts. I

Think people are being a bit too harsh on Graham. Who would you get to replace him? Chopping and changing the manager doesn't work. This is not about the wrong tactics, or the players who aren't there.

Open your eyes Cavan man.

1. Your county has a solitary title in half a century.
2. Your clubs teams have the worst record in all of Ulster.
3. Your underage teams have no record of success lately.
4. Your best players walk away from the setup year after year.
5. You can't get any sort of settled panel.
6. You have no rugby to compete with.
7. You have no soccer to compete with.
8. You have no hurling to compete with.
9. Neither Dublin nor Kerry are in Ulster, which means it's the easiest province to win, and Cavan never even come close.
10. You hype up players to be superstars before they've pulled on a senior jersey.

It was 9 years ago when Cavan won the first of 4 provincial titles at u21 level. Where were Cavan at that point? Division 3.

Where are Cavan now? Division 3, and not eligible to compete for the Sam Maguire.

Progress indeed. Except in the wrong direction.

I didn't watch the game yesterday. Listened to Damien on Northern Soubd while cleaning the car which probably proved a good decision.

Like I said during the week, it is only the league. We can still compete for Ulster next year I believe and we'll be in the race for SAM as much as we are this year. Not in it at all.
If we beat Monaghan and lose the next game to a good team in respectable and competitive fashion then all is forgiven and it's an improvement on last year.

But my main worry about that is that Mickey seems to have no respect for the conventional positions on a football field, playing lads in their right position. Or if not no respect, then no clue. Martin Reilly playing corner back again at one stage, Conroy as the stopper as big Enda Smith & co. barrel through us like tumbleweed. Even I could see the holes in the backline and me listening on the radio.

It's a hard year to pull a team together and there is no point in talking about lads that should be playing that are not on the panel at this stage, but I don't know how we can be expected to put in a performance v Monaghan when the players that are in there don't appear to know what the plan is or where they will be playing from one water break to the next.

I've already talked about Niall Murray, should be resting for next year as he hasn't been playing and couldn't possibly be be sharp, but at least he did the pre-season. Killian Clarke was on Newstalk talking about the commitment levels being over the top and falling out of love with the game in February. And it was thought a good idea to bring him back yesterday? His return appears to have done wonders for moral.

Cavan football is rotten. Country board needs to have a serious look at ho football in cavan is going to developed going forward.
Micky Graham , Ihis back room team and the Co board have to answer some hard question.
1.why are so many players walking of the panel year after year..... we reach an Ulster final last year straight away a number of players walk of the panel. it does not happen n any other country .
2. if there was a game play yesterday it was hard to see. we kicked so many stupid sides for stupid areas when recycling the ball to try and work a better position. kicking in long balls in to a 1 man forward linemarked by 3-4 Roscommon . we go nothing out of but kept doing it anyway.
3.we are now a reactive team like last week we started playing when we were 6 r 7 points behind.
4. player did not look like they were really interested. example Roscommon broke up the field on a counter attack with 2 r 3 players sprinting hard past cavan players walking to join the attack while

Roscommon had 7 to 8 players including Conor Cox. we were beaten by a team resting half its players with nothing to play for at home... how bad could the result have been.

no worries about dropping down to Div3 because that is now the standard of football in Cavan. I am worried that it is going to get worst.

The seeds of this decline were plain to see in the Tyrone qualifier last year. First time in my life I saw a Cavan team lie down so badly and so obviously. Whatever culture that represented is still around now. People are pointing the finger beyond Micky and into his back room team. But Micky either picked them or accepted them, so he is as much a part of the problem as they are. I called for Mattie's head for less and I think it's time to call it as we see it now.

At some point in the past few weeks the priority became 'let's rely on experience to steady the ship'. Players not good enough during Terry's time returned. And we paid the price. Same old well known disciplinary issues. And even if the experience is injured, let's play them anyway. Very unfair on the players concerned. And if a past star puts his hand up to return, which is very welcome, then let's throw him in straight away too. Madness, all madness.

We are back in a rut and when you are in a rut you need a fresh start with a fresh outlook. Terry did it for us and his approach should be a blueprint up to a point (ie not so focused on defence with no attacking edge). Get a quality Mgnt team together of people with vision and integrity. Focus on minor and U20 and put a transition platform in place such as Terry had with the Leinster Junior competition. Instill a winning mentality at minor and carry it through to senior again. Put a succession plan in place and don't be in a position like we were with Terry, staying on two years too long and not having the right team in place to build on his excellent work. Have we the resolve to start again? Have we any alternative?
