Replying To IamADragon:  "Well anything but what he did against Donegal will do, his kickouts were the worst I ever seen them that day."
Agreed. If there's nobody showing just belt it as far as possible straight up the middle, at the very minimum make it a 50/50 contest.

This is the biggest weakness in the team this year, I'm not blaming one player, because its a collective effort, but our midfield really needs to show more. That's why I think ciaran Brady could be a good option to have alongside Gearóid.

He miskicked the ball on at least 3/4 occasions, thats his fault.

Yeah I say he's at fault for some of them, not denying that. But as a whole, those miskicks are a small percentage of the total kicks he took (maybe 3 out of nearly 30 in total?). All I'm saying is he's not totally to blame - he can't catch the ball for them too. He needs help from the outfield players, and he came up against a Donegal outfit that relentlessly attacked the kickout.

There's always hope but I can't see us beating Tyrone tomorrow. They're a seasoned outfit and way ahead of us in terms of development and experience. People are clutching at straws with remarks that Clones could be a benefit for Cavan because we've played there a few times this year - we're playing a Tyrone team that have won Ulster Finals there!

I'd take a valiant loss where the lads play their hearts out and come up short because it wouldn't erode the good Championship year we've had to date.

People in Cavan are too quick to be critical. Starting Gerry Smith and Ciaran Brady in the Ulster Final and the two of them lacking both match practice and fitness shows that Graham obviously feels we're still a bit short even with a 40 man panel.

It's been a good Championship year and there's a lot to build on going forward, whatever the result tomorrow.

With all due respect, I deplore attitudes like yours. What sort of supporter would be pleased when his team loses? I understand you're hinting at a moral victory, but after winning 4 provincial titles at U21 level in recent years, do you honestly believe that honourable defeats are anything to cheer about at this stage?

Look, we've already suffered a hammering in the championship (five points flattered us against Donegal) I really don't think a brave performance albeit a losing one is something to accept.

We should be approaching this game hoping to win it. We've been talking about making that step up for years now, the time for talking is over, let's put it into action. I have no doubt the lads will be annoyed with their performance against Donegal and will want to put things right.

This can only be counted a good season if we can beat Tyrone and reach the Quarter Finals ( I hate the term super 8s ) as getting to the Ulstre Final was no big ask... we beat a rapidly fading Monaghan team in the easy side of the draw and would expect to take care of Armagh for the last few years ( but they are improving ).... Remember we did get relegated from division 1 so people should not get carried away with saying it was a great season....

Ned, unfortunately we dont have an allstar midfielder to put alongside gmac in midfield, and thats the problem. We would need one. Three or four kickouts were won over his head by Donegal. Over his head, for a midfielder to misjudge like that? He got great credit for scoring 3 pts against Armagh but not much mention of the 3 pts Armagh got from kickouts he didnt bother to contest. Great footballer he is but a luxury we cannot afford to carry in mf, maybe in attack but definately not in mf. Give me honest workhorses that will work for the hour anyday......

Where did I say I would be pleased the team loses? I'd suggest you read my post again. I am merely stating people need to be realistic. Teams need time to develop and it's a big ask expecting our lads to beat a team who have won as many Ulster titles coming into this year in the last decade as we have matches in the province. Tyrone also made the All Ireland Final last year, that's no mean feat.

Expressing satisfaction when your team lose? Strange mentality for a fan.

He's not being realistic either. Do I expect us to win? No. I am realistic. Will I be happy if/when we lose and comfort myself with a moral victory? Absolutely not. I want Cavan to win.

You're a good man to twist an argument. My point is people need to be realistic. There's no shame at the level we are at in losing to Tyrone. You may disagree and you're entitled to your opinion but the question was never if I WANT Cavan to win, there's no question of that. Do I expect it though? Absolutely not given the level the two teams are at.
I'll take a lot of solace if we can push them to the pin of their collar but I'd appreciate if you read my post and reply to it rather than take your own conclusion and post inaccuracies.,

Very high bar to set saying we need to beat Tyrone to call it a good season. Tyrone are up there in the rankings and realistically we're a bit off them quality wise. But we can control the level of effort and aggression we put into this game so I'd certainly be hoping for a big showing especially after the no show of the Ulster final. And depending on how Tyrone perform if we do happen to smell blood we need to go for it and most importantly get our supporters involved and believing. Tyrone are always going to be favourite for the result though. I'd sort of agree with you that some people have read too much into our run to Ulster final and got a bit carried away. But it's been great for the fans and players so no harm in enjoying it. We mightn't be that much further on than previous years (if at all) but we are trying to blood some new players especially up front, we have a few nice U20s coming through and if we put in a good shift today then for me it's a good season regardless of result and lots of reasons to be positive going into Division 2 next year.

Indeed it's a very high bar which has been set by some posters on here, previous managers have been vilified on here for losing to the top teams in Ulster over the years.Mattie McGleannan was near hung drawn and quartered last year after losing to Tyrone even though he regained our position in division 1.Hate to think what they might do to Mickey if we lose this evening.

Think Mickey will be alright for a while. He has some kudos in the bank when it comes to profile so it will keep a large section of fans quiet for the moment and he also comes across as articulate and likable in the media. Mattie didn't help himself with some of his interviews and could be very polarizing with some players. He done ok though, not nearly as bad as some make out but was on borrowed time all the same. One positive from him was he showed up the glaring lack of leadership within the players when things started to go wrong on-field. To get to the next level in development you have to be able to adapt when game plans go out the window and we were lacking here. I think this got through to players and we are seeing more responsibility within the group and certain players really coming to the fore this year.

That's completely fair, I didn't mean to come across as disingenuous.

I'd take a valiant loss where the lads play their hearts out and come up short

For me, I am personally tired of the heroic losses at this stage. Like yourself, no I don't expect us to win, but I would like to see us finally take a big scalp, we've done nothing but talk about it for years now. So I'd be loathe to trot out the same old trite that permeates Cavan football incessantly i.e. "young team", "next year", "we need time" etc. I'm just fed up of it tbh.

I thought we changed the manager this year.

I guess not. Meet the new manager, same as the old manager.
