Cavan have also struggled against Down recently and have been very lucky tobeat them on the last few meetings. In truth there is not much between ourselves, Down, Armagh, Derry and Fermanagh. Donegal and Tyrone remain a fair bit ahead in Ulster (it remains to be seen if the Cavan game was a one-off blip for Monaghan or have they really come down to our level). Antrim still the bottom of the pile in Ulster and the only one that you could be confident of beating. It's z 50/50 game with Armagh's superior firepower upfront likely to just shade it. We dont score enough and they tend to score heavily."
Hold on a minute lad, no winding up here. Like your good self, I have been through the mill following Cavan this last 2 decades. Antrim in 2009, the replays against Tyrone in 05 and 2016, the near misses against Monaghan, Donegal in 2012 and last year, Tipp as well. The list goes on and the scars are there to prove it. But this year is different. We were unlucky and disappointed to get relegated all the same there were signs of something building. Granted monaghan were muck in the first round but you can only beat what's in front of you and Cavan at last stepped up and did just that. We will be favourites for Armagh. Rightly so and we need to handle it. Look how Tyrone approach a game against lower division teams. Attitude has them ahead before they start.
I genuinely believe this team can change the narrative with a big win against Armagh. Look at the team lineups and the form and tell me 4 to 6 points is unreasonable.

We have shown improvements and should be confident with ourselves but I think for the first time in a long time Armagh have a fairly full compliment to choose from. Last 2-3 years of form on their part might be misleading. That's my one worry.

I got my ticket the other day in section B of the Gerry Arthur. I have a season ticket and like previous poster 100% attendance this year. I emailed Croke Park as I think it is wrong that season ticket holders are put down the end of the stand when one of the ideas behind the season ticket is to reward loyal supporters for their attendance. The reply I got was as follows:

"I can confirm that the seats will be covered.

These include players tickets and players family/friends and management friends/family, as well as county board officers. There is also a camogie match on before the Senior football game so their players and management tickets need to be allocated.

Once they are allocated the Ulster council then allocate the Season tickets and this is what they were able to give to us, to allocate randomly to Season Ticket holders for the game."

I don't think, in the history of my time on this forum, you have ever backed Cavan to win a game. Is this because you don't want to tempt fate, or you just have no belief in them? Genuine question. Why do you always back the other team?

Good news for Cavan, Thomas OShea has tipped Armagh.
He also tipped Monaghan.
We're on a winner.

Are you still going on about this? Have you literally forgotten that we beat them in 1995 and 2001 on our way to Ulster finals? If you got your info from RTE stats, then they're plainly wrong. Check past Ulster results and you'll see that (excluding a few weeks ago) we beat Monaghan in Championship twice in that time frame. Check out Gaelic Stats here. Enter in Cavan and Monaghan and select by championship and away you go. You'll see we beat them in 95 and 01.

Definitely beat them a few times, I remember 1995 like it was yesterday, Paul o,dowd saved a penalty, and Cahill was unmarkable that day.

Indeed, it was probably my first summer as a kid following Cavan properly. I remember some games in the old Breffni, but that summer of 95 when we beat Monaghan and made the Ulster final was when it set in. Haven't missed many Championship games since. Cahill got 1-2 or 1-3 that day, right? and the penalty save by O'Dowd onto the post and away - still remember it...

I'll go with my own memory. Definitely remember beating them in Monaghan a few times and it wasn't the mushrooms.

was about to post something similar.

I know we have plenty of WUMs on the Cavan page reveling in any defeat and finding excuses for wins. . .but Goldrick isn't one of these.

There's certainly a worry at the back of my mind, that Cavan have flattered to deceive before and so could do so again, but I just don't think that will happen.

He's very strange, no matter who we play, we're destined to lose in his mind. It could be that he's setting himself up to avoid disappointment, or he has an unusual dislike of the team.

We have flattered to deceive many times for sure, but I have an inkling that MG has the lads grounded and focused. There's no doubt we are a better team than Armagh, we've been operating at a higher level than them for a few years now. We must have belief in our own ability, and for all the talk about Armagh's forwards, the truth is Monaghan have better forwards that we had little trouble in taming.
I'm also expecting a bigger performance from Madden and McVeety, both were OK against monaghan but capable of a lot more, especially McVeety.

I won't be making the journey up to Clones on Sunday as i am still getting over a recent illness. Breffni on the 17th of May will have to keep me going for the time being. This is a game that we should win if we deal with the expectation and hype that comes with being favourites. It's a game where we have a lot to lose it the result does not go our way, all the gains from the Monaghan win would be washed away. Any team with aspirations of winning competitions have to learn to live with expectation and the team needs to show this ability on Sunday. I expect them to do so, Cavan by 3 +.

in fairness all of us here are very used to let downs over the years so if we were playing antrim in the semi final most of us would still be edgy about it. i just hope that sunday is the day that cavan finally put two solid wins back to back , it'll be really soul destroying if we lose. but look lets call a spade a spade, cavan are favourites and if all of them play to their potential the we will win!!! but of course cavans problems over the years was that lads didn't play to their potential. please god this will be it. but it WILL be tight!!!!
the way i look at it is that if armagh play with 4 forwards up the pitch it'll leave enough of space for cavan to poke holes coming down the wings (a move that has served us well). it should leave space in front of our full forwards aswell. alternatively if they place forwards deeper it'll stifle their own attack. i cant see them do that as thats their best chance of winning. cavans defence i think will compete well with their forwards anyway leaving our forwards well able to get a generous amount of scores to win it.
we need to win midfield, it is vital to put the brakes on any attacks from restarts. our own kick outs especially!!!!

I think we can do this. It's time for these players to deliver a big game and this is it. Good luck to the lads.

Yes especially after being man of the match without any doubt against Monaghan but as usual before a ball is kicked the man of the match is picked all ready by the person that picks him or her. McKiernan was not within an asses roar of Martin. How SKY pick their person has to be questionable.

Dick Clerkin was the man on the sideline for Sky who made the decision. Think he must just have been shocked at the way things went. Think he held his hands up afterwards and admitted he got that wrong and it should have been Martin Reilly.

Well I hope so for it's a disgrace the way they pick a MOTM period.
