Replying To StirringIt:  "Poor county players with years of strength and conditioning work , tough inter-county games, tougher inter-county opponents getting bullied by club players.

I've never read such nonsense in my life. Why don't we just stop playing club games altogether to protect the fragile county lads or better still, do a deal with someone for cotton wool or bubble wrap so we can wrap our fragile county players in it.

Graham knows Cavan are poor and is getting his excuses out there in advance of a poor championship. Thank God I've stopped going to county games !!"
Thank God I've stopped going to county games !!

With that attitude, thank God indeed!

100%

Anyone with a brain cell would know exactly why he said what he said. As others have asked, what county players have been targeted and injured so far in club games this year? We have had 3 rounds of games so far.?

The bottom line is the " craic" is gone out of football. Both club and county. Players playing with the county were always targeted by club players back as far as I can remember. Take the hits on the chin and get on with it.Club football gets a raw deal in every county. When your playing county back doors and club back doors there ain't enough of Sunday's in the year.
Mickey needs to knuckle down , get the lads enjoying it , developed a style and stick to it for a few years and the results will come.

Some big margin wins and losses in the league at the weekend.

Worrying starts for Killygarry and Mullahoran in D1. Although I think Mullahoran are missing a good few lads from last year for the first few games as a result of their extended year last year..

Same goes for Arva & Cucuhulainns in D2. Big beatings for teams that were competitive at D1 & Senior Champ not too long ago.

I would have also expected Redhills to get off to a better start in D3.

Perhaps the league is not treated with the same respect that it used to be by some or all teams with all rescheduling of fixtures etc. And avoiding relegation from your Division (if in 1 & 2), and maybe finding a few new players for the c'ship is seen as having done enough in the league now..?

I think another poster mentioned it when I tipped Ramor for the D1 league a few weeks back, and it's early days yet to be saying they are going to sweep all before them yet, but this young Crosserlough's team's results are looking very ominous for the chasing pack for the next few years.

Hopefully the Ramor's, Cstlerahan's , Gaels and other challengers can keep the shoulder to the wheel to deal with this incoming juggernaut and keep the Senior C'ship competitive...

So it looks like the net effect of mickey grahams article in the media last week is that a round of club matches with county players was postponed indefinitely and the following round without county players was brought forward?

If that is the case how does the county board feel about their employee undermining them & their fixture plan in national media like that?

All the pressure is on Crosserlough this this year, young team who reached the Championship final, going well in the league, lets see if they can deal with the pressure and go one step further.

Looks like the Gaels have found their mojo under Ronan Clarke, missing a few key players but gave Killygarry a lesson in football last weekend. They will be the team to beat in the Championship.

Some mojo.

They bet a Killygarry team struggling and you got carried away. Same way last year they were gonna walk it.

I see Killeshandra beat Maghera by 49 points at the weekend.

There comes a time when people have to simply ask, what is the point? Wouldn't it be better for small clubs to merge with their neighbours and form one decent team in a given area instead of staying divided and taking hammerings like this?

Saw the scoreline. When Cavan hurlers were on the end of stuff like this they were pulled. This is not good. Surely Maghera should be joined with their actual parish or Munterconnacht?

Killygarry missing a few, but that was a Gaels team without 6/7 of their regulars and a 17 yr old in the team.
They threw away a big lead against Cootehill this weekend when they took their foot off the pedal, but I've no doubt, once they have everyone back, they will be team to beat.
Castlerahan going well, first loss for Crosserlough, but the makings of a good championship, unfortunately, we have to wait another 4 months before it starts, whilst a lot of Counties have 3/4 rounds of club championship played already.

My thoughts - a young kid joins his local GAA club at 6 or 7. He's coached once or twice a week by club volunteers, people who love the club so much, that they're willing to give up their evenings or Saturday mornings to help these young players to develop their skills and their love of the GAA, in the hope that some day, they will eventually represent their club at senior level. They reach the age of 16/17/20 and if they're good enough, they might get called in to represent their County at underage and if they're really good enough they might represent the County at senior level.
And whats happening now, they dont want to play for the clubs, they'll either refuse, make up some excuse about carrying a knock, or the County Manager has told them not to. I know this for a fact, because I stood face to face with lads who were instructed not to play for their clubs. I know of one recent senior player who played last weekend and told his fellow players not pass the ball to him, and you could see from his mannerism that he didn't want to play, and not long after, he was taken off because of a knock, yet he was back training with the County a day later.

So I would say this to any County player, senior or underage. Don't forget where you came from, dont forget where you started off, dont forget the volunteers that gave up free time at 9:30am on a Saturday morning or weekdays to coach you or to bring you to matches. Dont forget your club, it should always come first before any County panel. Your club will always be there.

A few clubs are noticeably weaker without their county men by the looks of it. Crosserlough, Gaels, Shercock & Swad to name but 4.

Good win for Cootehill over the Gaels who are plugging along well at the top level without any county men for the last few years, and Ballinagh looking like strong fav's for the intermediate c'ship on their great from so far..

Missing a few? You bet their junior b team. But keep building yourself up, we'll see mid summer

Which counties have 3/4 rounds played?

Think Kerry's club championship is done and dusted. Stacks beat Crokes in final Sunday last.

They have 2 separate championships in Kerry tho. Their main one starts later in the year.

Plenty of teams have played 1 or 2 championship games and don't play their next one until August/September. .and a lot of players and fans don't like that approach.

But I doubt very much that the above poster can answer my question - who has played 3 or 4 championship games.

They have a good system to be fair. I don't see the point in playing a game or 2 now and finishing the championship 4 months down the line. The club only month suits them and they can run off the club championship in it's entirety when everyone is available and then the county championship later on in the year when everyone is available again. With our system we are right to just continue on with the league but I would prefer to see a Kerry type system in operation in Cavan.

Kerry type system involves amalgamation teams. So if an amalgamation team won the championship they can't represent the county in the Ulster club.
Clubs in Cavan can't agree so amalgamations certainly won't work even though on paper it seems an idea worth trying. In reality... never work
