Keeping them out for goals, teams discipline and playing without fear will see Cavan go close. Watching Monaghan V Kerry I'd be worried a little but I'll be there supporting Cavan anyway.

Watching McManus in their last match and he looked like he was carrying an injury so will he have shook it off for tomorrow??

He was brilliant for first 20 mins against Kerry. In relation to his injury's and having it shook off, let me look into my crystal ball for you

Can't see the game going ahead today with the weather.
Look, the bottom line is that Monaghan are a team playing at home with a good home record that have been operating at this level for years. Listening to the We Are Cavan interview with Dick Clerkin, he made an interesting point - once you get up to the speed of Division 1, its easier staying there than Division 2. In Division 2, you have to win 5 games for promotion. In Division 1, win two and you might stay up.
Cavan have been competitive in every game bar one this year. Even then, they stayed in that game for 35 minutes. I've no doubt performances have increased since last year and for a man in the job only a matter of months that is good enough for me.
We're also moving towards a settled team with 11 players who have started every game. Of those 11, I can only see one definitely dropping out with players like Moynagh, Mackey, Gerry Smith, Killian Brady, Caoimhin O'Reilly and Gearoid making up the other spots.
Considering that, I'm actually looking forward to the year ahead and not too worried how the league ends.

So what you're saying is, you're happy when we lose. As long as we compete in games, it doesn't matter to you. And if we get relegated that's perfectly fine.

Am I right?

Give me the league one status any day for it set's you up annually for a good run in the championship. It's very negative for those to say they are happy to be relegated I don't agree but what would I know. Having been involved over the years I know being in Division 1 gave a strong feeling amongst the players. If we Cavan can stay in Division1 it will make the players all the stronger mentally going forward. It will be nice if they win today but a huge call. If Mcmanus is injured as I think he is we have a great chance but we have to win a draw at least and how Roscommon pick up no more points. Good luck all.

I agree with that. The vast majority of GAA people would consider it paramount to be playing Division one football for a team to improve and then become consistent at that level.

It's a strange mindset that permeates the thinking of some on this forum. Happy to lose, as long as we compete. Bizarre.

I'm happy to be competing in Division 1 when not so long ago we couldn't beat an atrocious Offaly team in Division 3. I call it being realistic. You don't just turn a corner and beat the best teams in the country who have been operating at that level for years.
Relegated today but I still feel progress is being made.
Not sure about some of the selections and subs today if I'm honest but the League is the place to give those lads a chance.

That game you mention was was eight years ago. That's a long time ago. I'd say there's about two players on the panel from that time.

So in eight years our cumulative success has been managing to go from division 3 to division 2.

You still think progress is being made? That's interesting because when we got relegated under McGleenan we managed to beat Mayo (at the time the county's second best team), draw with Kerry and draw with Monaghan away from home. We got relegated on 4 points. This time it'll be two points (most likely).

So how have you arrived at that conclusion?

Lack lust display by Cavan in a local derby , the warning signs with the free taking was easily seen with the first game against Galway and noting done to fix it , it was embarrassing at times today it looked like no one knew who was going to take them . That seriously has to be sorted out . It's as though lads has lost confidence to shoot from play , the only difference between the teams today was Cavan's inabilities up front . I taught Mc vitty should have been deployed in the full forward line, our tackling needs to be worked on , a lot of games in the league this year we kept the opposition in the game by giving away soft frees in scoreable positions, Good to see Mc Kieranan back he made an impact when he came on . Over all disappointing league performance , we were in touching distance to winning a lot of the games , but the small margins of not converting frees , too many wides was the difference. One thing I can't understand is watching some of the forwards with there clubs they have no problem scoring from 40 yards out but with Cavan they don't take on the shot .

Seven years ago. I would imagine more than two. Niall Murray and McKiernan both scored that day for example. I can't find a starting team but Jason McLoughlin, Killian Clarke, Martin Reilly, Jack Brady & Cian Mackey were all in or around the panel in 2012. There might have been others also.
My expectation is we are moving towards a settled team that will hopefully gain promotion back to Division One and stay there at the third attempt.

I stand corrected.

Nonetheless I find your methodology very unusual.

I simply can't grasp how relegation for the second time in three years equates to progress.

For me, progress would have meant survival in division one.

I would back that. Not at the moment because I fully support Graham, but in the future I would like to see how Terry would fare in division one.

That's some statement ..........the team with the better forwards normally win games.......Jack McCarron came on as a second half sub ( & only for a short while) and scored 3 wonderful points ......roll on Breffni in May when hopefully we have Kieran Hughes & young O'Hanlon on show to add to Cavan's misery !
