Replying To PatTheDandy:  "I am hopeful for the Roscommon game. But not expectant.

To win it I think the key thing we are going to need to see is the forwards/attackers stand up and kick big scores in the 2nd half or last 20 mins of the game. Madden, Brady, Reilly, Mackey etc. and others.

Unfortunately apart from in the Division 2 league we have not seen our main scorers do this much or at all in recent years apart from with Gearoid in the c'ship last year really. All of our scoring men have faded out of D1 games and c'ship games against big teams in the c'ship when they should be driving it on to kill off these close games that we are losing.

A change in this mentality is what is needed to beat Roscommon. I think Madden especially has shown a bit of promise that he could be one of the men who might stand up for us in the coming weeks.

But there will be no talk of "the coming weeks" if we lose at the weekend so its now or never really, or it'll be just building for the c'ship for the remainder of this campaign for the last 3 games.

Prediction: Cavan 1-14 Roscommon 0-16

*Goal from Padraig Faulkner or Martin Reilly penalty"
You were going great till you said a goal from padraig Faulkner lol.

I hope if we ever get an extra man in any game that Mickey uses it better than he did last Saturday in the Club Semi.
That was very amateurish,

How did he use the free man?

They had an extra man for most of the game and proceeded to kick the ball out long where they weren't getting any joy instead of going short. Kick-out strategy was a major problem for them.

They let the dr Crokes centre half back run riot in the 2nd half. He controlled the whole 2nd half making runs forward at ease.

I'd say the goalkeeper could only go one way rather than picking players out.

Back to Cavan :-) , what's the crack naming a dummy team I doubt Roscommon is going to be fooled , Killian Clarke moved back into backs, Thomas Galigan to midfield and Gerry Smith to half back , Moynagh starting in half forward then deployed as sweeper , contour and Clerkin dropping to bench. I'd like to see young Murray coming in instead of M Reilly

Just a note on Leitrim winning again, Terry and Jayo doing great work down there. Its nice seeing them doing well but surely efforts should have been made to keep them involved with Cavan teams especially Terry ie a minor or under 21 role. Like something Kerry have done with Jack O Connor when he finished with their senior team he moved down to minor.
I think Terry should have been looked at for the under 20 job this year to get us back being competitive and getting them structures back in place that started our dominance at this level at the beginning of the decade.
He still has a lot to offer Cavan football and we dont have too many top managers growing from trees around here .

I don't know the man but I'd imagine Terry would prefer the time away from Cavan and our naysayers. He took over a team that I remember losing to a dreadful Offaly team in 2012, almost being relegated to Division 4, made them competitive and eventually got them promoted to Division 1, yet he still doesn't get any credit for it.
Anyway, let's concentrate on our own team and management. I don't understand the dummy team naming but most sides are doing it now - Galway making five six changes against us the first day.
Hopefully Gerry Smith is fit to start which means McVeety could player further up the pitch where he is needed.

It wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that he may come back at some point in the future, but for now I'm reasonably happy to have Graham in charge. I think he was the best option available. One thing is for sure though, we got the appointment of Terry's successor wrong. That has set us back a while, but hopefully Graham can make some progress. Staying in division one would be a start, although it's not looking likely.

Terry will be back in some capacity, he is involved in the polo grounds center of excellent development at breffni park, for now the best of luck to him.

Good win for Cavan. Will Monaghan seize the opportunity?

Good and important victory to get today. Well done to all involved. Even though it was against 14 man Rossies we needed to beat them.
What about Monaghan now, from a good start they look a beaten ticket so we might get them at the right time. Tyrone on the rise and in Omagh a worry. The Dubs??
Well done to the lads today, it was a good day to be in the park.

well done Cavan Today, great to get the Roscommon monkey of our backs. Let's hope we are competitive in our remaining games. good to see Gerry Smith and Chris Conway back. also delighted to see Conor Madden scoring his goals. Killian Clarke seems to be growing in to the musfield role too. also fair play to Niall Clerkin , I think he played well as did Niall Murray, Martin Reilly and sll the lads gave their all as usual. It will be tough to stay up but it's a great experience playing against the best.

Great to get a result to reward our recent improved performances, and nice to last the full 70 mins. Playing like that, we have to have a chance of getting something from the Tyrone and Monaghan games. Still favs for the drop but definitely going in the right direction in development terms.

Well done Cavan, fully deserved win and to be honest we were lucky it was only 9 points. Don't know why but Roscommon were so far off the pace yesterday. That's not to take from Cavan who were excellent. Ros are in real bother now but he have given yourselves a great chance now.

Let's hope the performances continue to improve over the final three games and that we are in tip top shape for the Ulster Championship in May. One thing the management must be given credit for even at this early stage is allowing lads a run in the team. The team has a settled look about it.
