Cavan_Shambles the reason for this is that all you read is about people who have just left senior football it becomes painful to be honest. If you try and read into my posts you will see the reason why. If the county Board is in the same disarray as this topic we are in deep S**T. It's as simple as that. Trying to divert these posters away from these young men is impossible. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4565 - 24/07/2018 15:41:41 2125768 Link 0 |
But can you see the inconsistency in your posts? Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 406 - 24/07/2018 18:56:28 2125850 Link 0 |
To be honest with you McGlennan should have stayed of course he was in the job for less than two years for god sake what do you Cavan people want. Relegation with players he did not know promotion with average players he brought in so he must have something. Player power should never be allowed and if it's condoned we might as well pick anyone local to manage the team for the players will dictate the show. He should have been offered two more years to see how he would progress with new blood for several on the panel will never kick football again for the seniors. There will be changes thats for sure be it with Mattie who I think along with most of his staff should be kept on or with another manager who has to make huge changes in personal.

Shambles don't waste your energy. On the 'time for Mattie to move on' thread he stated 'mcgleenan gone. No loss & hope he brings the others'.....,, Anyway on a more genuine note I Hope the sub committee are actively assessing potential managers & knowledgeable selectors. I know some have said that it's more important to get the right man than act in haste but surely with our championships starting this weekend & senior the following weekend it would be important to have strong selectors in place to attend. I would assume if it was an outside manager that he will be requesting the county board to provide them anyway bond (Longford) - Posts: 157 - 25/07/2018 15:00:43 2126133 Link 0 |
Yeah, I shouldn't waste my time, but I do like to get a firm grasp of opinions when debating, and his posts are all over the place, zero consistency of opinions, and outright contradictions. Hard to follow! Anyway, I hope the work is well underway to appoint the new man. This is a vital decision, and I agree with you that there should be a sense of urgency with the club championships underway soon. We really need to stop this obsession with who the manager of the County's senior team is going to be and even when they will be appointed. Cavan GAA's problems are much deeper than who picks the team from among the reducing number of players willing to commit to the squad. We need our best coaches going into the schools and improving every single player no matter their level. Sort out the mess that is underage football in the County. Increase the quality and number of referee's rahanman (Cavan) - Posts: 127 - 25/07/2018 17:49:52 2126204 Link 0 |
Don't know why posts are hard to follow. We have allowed player power to rule the roost once again TRUE. We have lost another manager to this behavior TRUE. The fact I say bring back your mate the manager before Mattie maybe it's the only way to go. There is one huge person missing off course and thats Joe McCarthy I am not sure he ever got recognition for his input to the game but thats another story, Don't be confused by my posts for I call it as I see it. I read in the local rag the County board hope to have a new man in place by August this can mean only one thing and that is he is local. Anyway what will be will be while you have certain people selecting players to come in and ignoring others with far better and superior abilities Cavan will be fighting a lost cause. Even worse Cavan could suffer the consequences of being very financially very poor as a result and may well end up in Division 4 for a very long time unless the ship can be steadied and brought to an even keel. People on the county board many collar and tie people need to get their heads together and realise we need a strong man who will take no nonsense from any players and that needs to be from outside the county It's gone on far too long. I would also hope that he would have his own team that would exclude anyone from Cavan. I have spoken to many who said they are not even going to renew their club Breifni membership so I feel this speaks volumes and people need to take notice.. I'm going to dissect this post, piece by piece. Don't know why posts are hard to follow. We have allowed player power to rule the roost once again TRUE. Please explain what evidence you have of player power. I read in the local rag the County board hope to have a new man in place by August this can mean only one thing and that is he is local. Please outline how you've managed to come to the conclusion that because the Co.Board have set a deadline, that the new manager will be local. There is literally no reason to draw that inference. Even worse Cavan could suffer the consequences of being very financially very poor as a result and may well end up in Division 4 for a very long time unless the ship can be steadied and brought to an even keel. This is just crazy talk. Cavan are a division 1 team, at worse they are a division 3 team. People on the county board many collar and tie people need to get their heads together and realise we need a strong man who will take no nonsense from any players and that needs to be from outside the county It's gone on far too long. You literally said in the same post that Terry Hyland should be brought back, and a couple of lines later into your rant you want the new manager to be from outside the county. What exactly do you want? I would also hope that he would have his own team that would exclude anyone from Cavan. So you want a management team with no Cavan men on it, people with an insight into the football scene in Cavan. This is incredible stuff, absolute lunacy. The absolute ignorance of this post defies logic. Firstly I happen to think that our "local rag" the Anglo Celt happens to have one of the best gaa writers in the country in Paul Fitzpatrick whose knowledge of the game exceeds mine & I'm sure many more on here. How you can propose an entire management team outside the county is just plain & simply stupid. Firstly we need people who know the club scene & who can identify players who have shown potential coming through underage & at senior level over the past few years and not one season wonders !!! Also how possibly can this new management team consisting of people outside the county actually even select a panel without listening to people within the county??? Your posts have reached a level of inconsistency that just does not comprehend any level of intelligence bond (Longford) - Posts: 157 - 25/07/2018 21:06:14 2126249 Link 0 |
I'm guessing he'd have them listen to people inside the county that are not native Cavan. Hmmm. Wonder who he'd have in mind?

According to the We are Cavan podcast, they have it from the lads themselves that both Mickey Graham and Jason Reilly have been approached and are considering it (didn't state if they were being considered as part of same ticket). cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 26/07/2018 06:55:18 2126306 Link 0 |
I'd say Mickey will be approached by longford too, why do you think it's mcconville? My guess would be canavan??. I would like to see Paddy tally like Wayneroony said, or horan or mcguinnes, hopefully they can get the right man to get the players in exile back.

The Anglo Celt preview page on Facebook mentioned O Rourke and McEntee. Donohoe also said Horan is a candidate.

Arrived in November 2016 gone in July 2018 that makes 20 months. What manager would want this job. Relegated 2017 promoted 2018 and Cavan are not happy. Not sure there is a man outside the county that would put his reputation on the line when you are dealing with players who appear to call the shots. Well going by the Anglo Celt. cavanexile11 (Dublin) - Posts: 25 - 27/07/2018 00:19:41 2126596 Link 0 |
Just an inkling, nothing more. Canavan on good money with sky I'd imagine. Besides, I wouldn't like to see him get it. Don't think he did overly well with fermanagh. Hogan, likewise, would have to sacrafise a huge amount work-wise which I'm not sure he's willing to do. I understand he was contacted by Mayo before they gave Rochford another year. McGuinness would be the dream, be ridiculous if the county board haven't at least asked the question. But i just can't see it. Surely Mickey would take Cavan over Longford!? He could probably bring Longford on more, but the next few years are make or break for this Cavan panel (incl. those in exile) and I think it's an ideal opportunity for someone like him. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 27/07/2018 01:44:53 2126619 Link 0 |
Seems that there is some interest internally as well as externally. The chairman rightly said that we need to make use of this generation before they are too old. To achieve that, I believe they need to go with someone with previous inter-county management experience. While I would like to see a young Cavan manager get a chance, I don't think the timing is right. I would be an advocate of bringing in someone like Jason into the set-up to give him a feel for the scene. Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 27/07/2018 09:16:06 2126630 Link 0 |

Talk of McGuinness on the main page!! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 27/07/2018 13:14:22 2126714 Link 0 |
Would be truly astonished if Mcguinness is genuinely interested, struggling to see any real upside in it for him. Hopefully I'm wrong, he'd be the dream appointment. GallantJohnJoe (Cavan) - Posts: 310 - 27/07/2018 14:19:26 2126736 Link 0 |
