Replying To YOUWONTCODME: "At the end of the day, Cavan are going into division one which is out of their depth.
A new manager comes in and Cavan get relegated and then could end up drawing Monaghan, Tyrone or Donegal in Ulster?
All hypothetically speaking but could easily happen.
Of course we still need a manager but this is the sort of problem that faces them along with all the others such as getting your best players to commit.
Its going to take something very special to make things happen in Cavan football.
Expectations for our county team are way too big for what we have at our disposal." https://www.bbc.com/ideas/videos/a-brief-history-of-populism/p05t8hqq?playlist=the-a-z-of-isms

Replying To Cavan_Shambles: "Might be a total non-runner, but if Tyrone don't make it out of the super 8's, would Harte be a possibility?" Harte is a Tyrone man true and true. Just like Cody of Kilkenny he's not motivated by money or mileage allowance.

Replying To The Quiet Man: "I disagree with you but you and I are entitled to our opinions. We have more than one manager that has won as manager two or more senior titles. We need to bring in a man that will not be a yes man and will have a spine/back bone/brass neck to shut out all the advisers on the stand and even on the CB then and only then will Cavan make progress." well we both agree on what Cavan need anyway.!! I do feel this particular panel are at a major junction. this next manager needs to be chosen carefully. this manager needs to be the one that brings success at this level. its hard to know who's right for the job at this stage or even who'd want it. who knows Jason or Micky might not look near it even!!!

Replying To The Quiet Man: "Yes this will alway's be the way as Cavan are part of the 9 ulster counties so this will not change,
I have been around a long time and I have spoken to many players over the years and what we need and I mean this is a person for the players to confide in. Many have personal issues with certain aspects of the set up and having an ear to listen to them has to be a priority first and foremost. Not a runner I must add but a person that will understand and chat with management to rectify the problem.
I hope we get a decent man to try and bring the team forward. We have to stop listening to the coaching staff that are involved in the so called development but to get out there and watch for potential players that are being over looked sadly. I named 5 players that I felt were worth bringing in to give them a try not one of them were brought in and they stood out last season. They were not asked either. The clubs should recommend stand out players and start from there it will be a step in the right direction." The problem is clubs are sending in their so called best players to development squads, whilst leaving the rest behind. Those left behind then suffer because numbers at training decrease, or matches get cancelled. What people seem to forget is that many of those late developers can turn into very talented footballers, but at that stage its too late, because they lost interest. Then the lads in the development squads reach the ages of 20/21 and they're fed up with football because they've committed the last 3/4 years to development squads. Cavan Football has fallen so far behind some of the top clubs that it will take at least 10 years before it catches up, and even at that, it wont catch up until they start fixing things, starting with the clubs, who are the grassroots of football but who are continually ignored and mistreated.

Delighted Mattie is gone.
I'm sure he was a sound fella but not up to the job at all or at all. County Board as much at fault as anyone and need to cop on and appoint someone fit for the job, modern game, and someone who can get the best players in the county out to play. I know some just don't want to play in certain years or at all but many that are not in that category were lost under Mattie that probably shouldn't have been.
To avoid the same thing happening again, I have a few comments & questions on the names being bandied about that the county board should be thing about. (Based on what I know and don't know about them from my memory and haven't googled their experience).
Some are probably not feasible or wouldn't want it but will include them anyway.
James Horan - Could a lot of mediocre managers not get that Mayo team to an AI final and lose? - What else has he done to give him a big reputation? - Could be another McGlennon out of his depth with a lower standard squad than he's used to and not a great tactician? Stephen Rochford - might say the same as above but I think he won an AI with Corofin. He would also have recent Div 1 experience but he hasn't managed to find too many new Mayo scoring forwards in his time. Would be a bit wary but would give him a chance if he was available and wanted. Jim McGuinness - Likely wouldn't want but a proven winner - would give him to him above all others if he wanted it. Wouldn't care about his previous tactics. Kevin McStay - Would be my second choice if available but probably wouldn't want it. Has rejuvenated a similar standard county to ourselves and brought them to the level we are looking to get to. Mickey Moran - Probably too old, gambling that he's not past it. James McCartan - What has he done? Think he brought Down to the AI final loss against Cork, which was a good achievement. Don't know much else about him but he might attract lads in to play anyway and Down played good football that year. John McEntee - Again unsure what he has done so far, some club success with Crossmaglen. Mattie had same with Scotstown. Would probably stay away from him yet.
Of the above, I would only consider Rochford, McStay, McGuinness & McCartan. But they probably wont want it anyway as its an unenviable job with us in Div 1 after getting hammered by Donegal & completely outplayed by Tyrone.
If going for a big outside name, he will have to be proven to make it worth the while to get the players. Otherwise, go for an inside man.
Problem there is I would be very against joint managers and it's hard to pick a winner from Jason, Peter, Mickey Graham or McCabe if going that way.
I would probably go for Jason from them. His tactics have been fairly faultless with the Gaels. Even though they are a cut above the rest, they were in years before and didn't win the c'ship. And he also won a championship with Lacken.
Not a Terry is the Messiah like some posters might be but I would not be afraid to bring him back in in some capacity for tactical noose. Probably not as the top man or joint manager though.

Can we please have a manager that all of the eligible players in the county want to play for? Can that be the starting point? There are a lot of very good Cavan players out there currently not turning out for the county and it's wasting a decent generation of talent.
I believe there are two truly quality teams in the country at the moment Dublin and Kerry, any of the rest can be beaten on any given day by anyone else in Division 1. Last time we were up we beat Mayo drew with Kerry and Monaghan and should have taken care of Roscommon despite the gypsy curse they have over us. We still would have been relegated on 6 points that day as results didn't go our way but staying up is not impossible.
The constant negativity is painful to listen to and I'm sure must get to the players too. I'd like a young up and coming manager whether that's within the county or without to come in and inspire the team. We are always only a score away from Monaghan and they've had decent success with a smaller pool of players.

What has McCabe won since he started managing a team in Lonfgord nothing that I know about Micky Graham has won two senior titles and got his team to a provincial final. Jason has won a senior title with one of the easiest teams to pick up a senior title but could do no more with them. He will off course win the title again this year but can he bring them to the next level as it stands I don't think so. Peter Reilly has won nothing that I know off as a manager so of the four if it had to be one of them Micky Graham would have to be the number one choice BUT I hope they go outside the county maybe bring in Pete McGrath.

I left Pete McGrath out of that because I forgot he was being mentioned as well but I would group him in the Mickey Moran bracket. Perhaps too old and a gamble if he is equipped for the modern game and managing a team in Division 1 of the league against the country's best.
I included McCabe in that list more because he was a big name in the county who is managing rather than because he has achieved much. He was part of the Ulster Minor winning management team that Killian Clarke etc were on so that is one thing. But I would have him bottom of the list of 4.

Replying To The Quiet Man: "As manager ??? if yes who did he win them with???" Yes Peter won an intermediate title with Arva I had forgotten about that. I think however as a manager that was it. I have the greatest of respect for Peter but not sure he has the qualities to be head man of our seniors BUT of all the local lads being mentioned I would put him top of the pile followed by Micky Graham Niall Lynch John Brady. I hope the CB bring in an outsider it's the only way forward and change the complete back room management staff.

Tony McEntee James Horan Jim McGuinness etc. Even Karl Lacey a selector with Donegal and I have heard great things about him as a coach.
