Is it time for mattie to go? .tribute (Cavan) - Posts: 359 - 01/07/2018 05:55:51 2117048 Link 0 |
I certainly would not go with joint managers with the two above. If they intend to hang onto the present manager bring in Sean Boylan to advise him for the next twelve months it would be money well spent. Look if you want to bring in Joint managers which never work bring in Micky Graham and Jason Reilly, If a stand alone manager there is only one and thats a Ramor man John Brady. He knows every player in the county. I am all for getting rid of the present set up however but don't go backwards. If none of the above I expect the Mayo manager will be standing down I would fully support this man being brought in with his own team and only his own team I will say that again his own team only. mowbar (Cavan) - Posts: 452 - 01/07/2018 09:17:21 2117064 Link 0 |
I would have strongly backed Mattie's appointment because he was showing great promise as a manager in the club scene. The decision was a good one at the time given the candidates available (remember Banty??) MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 489 - 01/07/2018 09:22:35 2117067 Link 0 |
Stephen Rochford? Dream on, there is no prospect whatsoever of that happening. The Cavan job is a poisoned chalice, unrealistically high expectations from fans based on our illustrious ancient history. The next guy needs to be a Cavan man, Jason Reilly has to the prime candidate surely. Yes he may be manager of the top club in the county but he's basically turned them from a team that required victory in a play-off in 2016 to avoid dropping to intermediate into a team unbeaten in league and championship in about 18 months I believe. Sadly, I don't expect mcgleenan to walk or be pushed. GallantJohnJoe (Cavan) - Posts: 310 - 01/07/2018 09:35:08 2117070 Link 0 |
Mattie is still the manager and has a contract to next year. Unless there's some major upheaval with the players then he'll probably see out his contract. It's hard to know what the players may be thinking and even harder to gauge what goes through his head. His team selections and substitutions continue to baffle. At this stage if the players are happy to stick with him then I'd give him another year. Terry sensed in 2016 that all players weren't fully behind him and had the common sense to walk. You get the feeling that is something Mattie would never do so maybe a player meeting might be needed. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 01/07/2018 10:10:43 2117087 Link 0 |
Jason has done nothing anyone could not have done with the gales don't get carried away. He was with two other clubs before that tell me what did he do?? He turned nothing around sure he is one of the lads not inter county standard yet. To be fair if Stephen Rochford became available he would be pleasantly surprised by the quality of players there are in Cavan County and I am sure every potential county player would be knocking the gate down to be part of the set up. The one thing I would hope from the new manager should we get one is to stop listening to the CCB and go on his own judgment when bringing in new players. However I would hope that Stephen would stay with Mayo for he has been unlucky not to have won at least two All Irelands so job not finished yet. Cavan simply are not good enough as a team. 1 or 2 good players but Cavan are an mid division 2 or top division 3 team. Supporters cannot continue to blame management. Cavan football will find its level and supporters should go out and enjoy what success that level brings. Farney1977 (Monaghan) - Posts: 59 - 01/07/2018 11:04:48 2117112 Link 1 |

Mid div 2 or top div 3 yet we are going into div 1. How do you expect anyone to take you serious when you start with nonsense like that?

Much more to management than that. You have to be tacticaly aware. Maybe if he listened to his backroom team. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 01/07/2018 11:35:35 2117131 Link 0 |
In a word....Yes Mattie must go. Hes not up to the challenge. He lost a backroom team and a number of players from last years squad and i know for a fact some of the players there now are not convinced in his abilities. Hes out of his debt. OK, sit down and name the teams that are currently above Cavan in the country and you might realize what I'm saying is true!!!

Monaghan lost to Fermanagh so I suppose that makes monaghan a top of div 3 team at best.

No they aren't . They have't got past the quarter final stages under O Rourke, despite all the hype, and unlikely to do so this year with the Super 8s.

Yes that's probably the reality of it . There no way we are a div 1 side and regardless who's manager we will come straight back down next year. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 01/07/2018 12:50:07 2117166 Link 0 |
I expect that the current occupant will remain in position next year unless the players look for a change. Our departure from this year's Championship was no better or worse than those of the past four years. Indeed losing by 3 points to Tyrone is probably a better show than the exists post 2013: kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 572 - 01/07/2018 12:56:56 2117167 Link 0 |
This defensive Sh@@e has been drill into this current bunch of players this past6/7 years and it's going to be very difficult to change the mindset of these players. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 01/07/2018 13:09:11 2117171 Link 0 |
Promotion will have earned Mattie McGleenan another year. It wasn't a stellar Division 2, but promotion was achieved. Next years Division 2 will have Kildare, Donegal, Armagh,. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2216 - 01/07/2018 13:25:40 2117177 Link 0 |
Anyone suggesting the likes of Jim Mcguinness, Stephen Rochford or James Horan need to come back down to planet earth, these guys are way too smart to take over a thankless job of managing a county with high expectations but few elite players and a dysfunctional club scene.
