I have to disagree with you quality were not asked back and others got no recognition shows that this management watched no matches last season championship. Most have gone to the states would you blame them. Jack Brady James McEnroe DJames Brady Agnew Argue Dillion Reilly Corr Rory Dunne especially Rory we don't have a back like him yet he is left at home are better than 90% of the present players and this is only a few players. Also tells you that this management have not got a clue they send McCormack back to his club and bring him back what message is he giving to those that were on the panel. mowbar (Cavan) - Posts: 452 - 13/06/2018 00:23:01 2110832 Link 0 |
Just in reply to the above post the last National league Match on the main pitch was Cavan V Sligo Senior ladies first week in April. The weekend of the 13th and 14th Feile qualifiers were played. Feile Finals were played the 17th April so the pitch up to that date was being used for Senior men training Senior Hurlers training U20 training and challenge games. Training continued right up to June until work started on the County pitch. I suppose the chances of playing the County simi Finals and finals are still a possibility. Unfortunately there was a huge set back with work on the pitch when it was discovered that practically all the the draining system had been damaged when other work was done for 2006. Thankfully all this has now been repaired and all the soil and drainage stone ect are now in place. Next is the seeding of the pitch. It will be a huge ask to have the pitch ready for the County finals but if that fails I hope they will keep the pitch closed to all activity until the start of the national league that includes closed to training for sadly this does a lot of damage when everyone wants a bite of the cherrie. McKenna Cup could be played in other pitches I am sure. I hope that clarifies the county pitch situation. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4565 - 13/06/2018 03:19:31 2110836 Link 0 |
He got us to Div 1. We are still in the championship. Posters like you and JonSmith now sniping about games we should have lost but didn't . Now that's petty. Show the man some respect. If he had 5 years and 4 winning u21 sides and a minor side to pick from then you could complain . But he hasn't had . Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 13/06/2018 08:24:35 2110859 Link 0 |
Matty took over a team committed to the cause, high in confidence and who had just being promoted to Div 1, whereas on the other hand Terry took over a team showing no commitment or confidence ,who'd rather be in the Imperial than Breifne and who'd just avoided relegation to Div 4.The last time we beat Monaghan in the Ulster Championship was in 2001,Donegal was in 1997 and Tyrone further back in 1983, We didn't play these team too often in the league as they were generally operating out of a higher division than ourselves. As for Tipp not too sure about them played them once in the qualifiers last year and were beaten but we beat them this year in the league. Roscommon are a team we just can't seem to beat in recent years lost two league finals and two qualifiers to them, indeed they've beaten us 3 times in the last two years. If you call finding a team struggling in division 3 and leaving them in division 1 a mess then fair enough that's your opinion, but Hyland did do a lot of good for Cavan football, to the extent where a lot of people were expecting rather than hoping Cavan could beat the bigger teams.

Would Blayney hold a Monaghan championship game? No it wouldn't.

Breffni park is our biggest asset. If there is any risk that it will not be 100% for any game it should not be used. Thid is a once in a decade piece of work for God sake let's not balls it up.

I really don't understand your reply what has Blayney got to do with Breifni Park. What is it you don't understand about the county pitch being closed. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4565 - 13/06/2018 11:38:50 2110940 Link 0 |
No they're not pal, cop yourself on. League matches maybe, but they wouldn't be capable of holding championship matches. Imagine going to Ulster and the Gardai and putting those venues forward. Crowd and safety issues, parking and all that would mean they'd never hold them there. If those grounds could hold it, Kingscourt definitely could and they didn't even try to hold it there.

Well they're obviously not committed as they're not in the squad. And I'm sure you've heard rumours, same as myself. Some just don't put in the time, and that's fine, everyone has lives, but some just don't want to play any more. And for whatever reason, that means they're not committed.

This is exactly it Madge. A bad ref will beat you if you let him get to you. Discipline will be crucial and players will need to make good decisions if the ref makes a bad one. Easier said than done as just watching this particular ref boils my blood but the players have enough experience of playing with him now to know his particular quirks and will need to adjust their play a bit to suit particularly their tackling. If management have the players well drilled in this regard then Down could be the ones who will suffer more so it could turn out to be advantage Cavan.

I don't know if the Ulster final the following day has anything to do with it but delighted the game is not in Clones. Much too big for the expected crowd which would have a huge impact on the atmosphere. Brewster is perfect. Nice and compact and if we get 6K plus there should be a really good atmosphere and hopefully we get behind the team.

Rory Dunne, Tomas Corr, McEnroe, McDermott & Fergal Flanagan are big losses. PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 282 - 13/06/2018 13:42:01 2111028 Link 0 |
Can I ask, what has Cormac Reilly done to you lads in the past? Serious negativity toward him here! We have suffered under him ourselves. It seems he carries a special red card with Darren Hughes name printed on it. Mayo have their axe to grind with him as well. You should have far too much for Down in any case. That was a league match in Blayney Eddie, Championship football wouldn't have been on as cold a day as that...

The one thing I'll say for him is he wasn't the winning or losing of the last Cavan game he took charge of - in the league proper down in Hyde Park. A "bad for both teams" type of performance. But there were people laughing in the stands at some of the calls made that day. It was farcical at times. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 13/06/2018 14:44:06 2111079 Link 0 |
I don't know what it is Eddie. They say familiarity breeds contempt but every time we have him there's contention. You can usually get a sense of what a referee wants but with him it's completely random when the whistle goes. You just don't know what way the decision will go. He offers no communication to players and seems to thrive on their frustration. As soon as the inevitable back chat starts he'll go to town on the offenders. I'm sure he's just as bad for the opposition but discipline will be crucial versus Down.

Think he's talking about 93 or 94"]Yeah that far back doesn't fly, no way would that happen nowadays with crowd safety and such. He mentions it like today would be fine to hold it

so Cavan beaten by Down a div 3 team! Jimjo (Cavan) - Posts: 63 - 13/06/2018 16:08:25 2111128 Link 3 |
Think he's talking about 93 or 94"]Yea it was 93 and Cavan were blowing leads back then too, 5 points up going into the last quarter in Blaney and ended up drawing and in the replay Monaghan beat us for the first time in 60 years in Breifne, also the following year we found ourselves leading by 6 points towards the latter end of the game but still managed to lose. Ah those were the days when on the back of an Ulster winning U21 team of 1988 we didn't win a game in the Senior championship until 1995, 7 years on the trot without a win and we think we have it bad these days.
