Gearoid has an exemplary disciplinary record, equally Daragh and Conor. They are not the type that sledge or constantly mouth off. Yes, Gearoid could be seen at the end of the game going over to the Down player and mouthing to him but I would safely say it was not started by him. All McVeety and Moynagh done was go in and stand up for their team mate who was being pulled and dragged by at least 4 Down players. Again pulling and dragging, unsavioury as it may be but nothing more. All of the others joined in to try and stop the whole thing. Think of it, Cavan were just after winning the game. Why would they instigate the whole thing. Down had just lost, their season was over. They had nothing to lose and were probably pretty sore at losing a game they should probably have one. Again if Kerry were involved in the same scenario, would Tomas O'Shea be as quick to pass comment, Fair enough if it was clear from TV that one player had hIt another then thats a different story but let the CCC investigate this and get both sides. Regardless of where the game is played I want to see Cavan at full strength and if we get beaten because of negative tactics, blanket defences, puke football then so be it. We move on and try and make the necessary steps to correct it in the off season. I'll finish by saying I'm a proud Cavan man thatwant to see these young exemplary young men do thwmselves, their family and thwir county justice. COME ON THE BREIFNE BLUES" Dara has a habit of getting involved in things he doesn't need to get involved in. He is a bit too aggressive and I have seen him getting away with being over the top in club games in the last few years. Gearoid on the other hand was being taunted for the hole game

Replying To Inaroundehouse: "Well how long is the present secretary there? He has been there for the appointment of at least the last 5 managers. But was never held accountable when the appointments didn't work. And he's in a salaried position something that should not be happening." It's an Ulster Council directive for a full time secretary.

Strange joebe my take on it there was plenty punches thrown one man got a ferocious tackle from behind right into the center of his back from one of the people sent off. Two Cavan players got their marching orders and at least one other as well who started it all off by Sledging the Down player who had just missed a score. After the Cavan player that started the trouble scored the point at the other end gave this lad some dirty shoulder on his way out. When our game has gone to this low level standard the finger points at management for I guarantee you to a man they will back what went on after the match or say they did not see it the easy way out." McVetty shoved the lad who has having the beef with GMac......thats not a red card.
Gmac was getting grief from his man all game, and is entitled to give some of it back.....I watched The Sunday Game on the RTE player and there wasnt much punching, more pushing and shoving

Replying To Inaroundehouse: "With no accountability to clubs??? I don't think so" Sorry you're right it's actually a directive from top.
"Every county should finalise the appointment of a full-time executive officer within the next five years"
Strategic Review proposal, January, 2002
In 2002 12 counties had a full time secretary straight away. Not sure what the number is now. A secretary is responsible for the admin side. I don't see how changing one every few years is beneficial.

Having a secretary is fine but he/she should not be able to over rule an executives order that being the case whats the point in having a committee at all. I think the original plan was a 4 year contract?? It's like Murphy in Cork calling the shots for years and almost single handily re wrote the rule book in Croke Park.

Shelbourne - You know rightly I would love nothing better than to see Monaghan give that shower of f*ck**s from Cavan a good beating in the Super 8's but I do genuinely feel Cavan are been unfairly treated with the suspensions.
Fermanagh and Down have bullied Monaghan of late and the Monaghan lads, because they are now so well disciplined, have not stood up to them for fear of feeling the wrath of players, the management team and supporters if they consequently get sent off. If the officials are not on their a-game from the start of a game, teams like Down and Fermanagh thrive and if Monaghan players had of retaliated during the game they would likely be sent off! Consequently you have lads not standing up for themselves, diving etc - it's a long time since I heard someone accuse Monaghan of been soft but that's whats happening. After the Cavan Down game, now if you defend yourself on the pitch following a strike after a game, you are suspended for the next game. That's crazy! I mean why would any Cavan player want to pick a fight with a Down player having just progressed to the next round.
If Cavan get over Tyrone, which I think they can with a full strength team, then I think they would be favourites to beat any of the provincial losers, event their bogey team Roscommon. So they are there or there abouts. It's a strange decision to choose Brewster Park over Clones or Castleblayney (if permissible)

Joebe - You'll soon have any positivity knocked out of you round here! I think your spot on as regards Gearoid. He has a good disciplinary record and took plenty of verbals during the game. I had a good view of the incident at the end of the game lat Saturday and didn't see him punch anyone. One Down player threw several punches at him by the way but he didn't throw any back. If players are going to be red carded for verbals it will be a like a 7 a side in Brewster next Saturday.
Anyway all the best to the players and management for the weekend.

Also, the county board hasnt been the same people since 1997.
So in summary, you are talking rubbish." fred your right i forgot about poor eamon coleman who in fairness was a good appointment, so that makes two good ones in 25 years, not one, I stand corrected. Terry did a good enough job too but it is not like he was headhunted and identified by skill, so that makes 3 hits out of a series of misses like andrews, carr, mcelkennon, keogan and so on. No other county was chasing tjhose mamagers after they left cavan so my thread was not about quality of the managers really more about the quality of the people hiring them who never seem to get the flak, but you miussed my point I think.

Sadly our full strength team is sitting at home not committing to the cause." Lads I am hearing a lot about the top players in Cavan who are not committing to the county effort. Wondering who exactly is included in the reckoning here? I am guessing Givney, McEnroe, barry reilly, josh hayes, argue, niall mcdermott and maybe jack brady all would be on the list?
If these players were all available, do you think it would push Cavan ahead of Donegal, Monaghan and Tyrone? Genuine question now.
Tyrone are there to be beaten by the way

For what comes from the mouth can be a lot more hurtful that being man enough to hit the person. As regards discipline I suggest you look back over the last few years and tell me that the person you have mentioned is a disciplined player and never got his marching orders. Memories are short. As for Tyrone this Saturday it's a foregone conclusion. Best players at home you have it spot on. joebe it would appear you and I watched a different match and probably best do what you have planned to do.

I will add a few more McGlade McGlade Sheridan Meehan Durham James Brady Fortune there are many more out there being ignored. Some quality players even from Ballyhaise Belturbet and Redhills ignored. If they were looked after and encouraged we might well have a top 8 team contenders every year not struggling to beat the Downs Wicklow Carlows Longford who are better than Cavan right now. Lads heading to America to get a few bob and sadly the majority of them come home with nothing. Maybe time the equivalent in EURO from what they get in Dollars was lodged into their account to help them towards their accommodation and college fees we as a county might well bring back the glory day's. A little imagination goes a long way.
