Wondering how we will line up V Down. Apparently we have a clean bill of health. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 16/06/2018 23:34:08 2112202 Link 0 |
Yes originally the number one pitch to the county grounds was Cootehill, Kingscourt was never number one. The reason these grounds are not allowed to be used is health and safety and will never approved unless there is a vast improvement in parking and in one case money spent on improving their facility. Since the health and safety issues came to the fore many clubs would never be able to play a big match. If the county pitch is not ready don't be a bit surprised if Enniskillen is used for them if they wish to play a double header but let's hope this will not be the case. 1 area where Cavan have certainly improved under mcgleenan is discipline. Am I correct in saying we haven't had a single straight red card in his tenure so far? This was a recurring problem under Terry, we would have beaten Derry in breffni in 2016 bar for the idiotic red. Plenty of other examples too. Best of luck to the Bréifne next weekend against Down. Unfortunately away for the next few weeks but will be following our Ulster teams all the way! greysoil (Monaghan) - Posts: 830 - 17/06/2018 21:26:38 2112426 Link 1 |
I still think counties in this day and age should have least 2 county grounds capable of holding inter county championship matches.

Dublin don't even have 1.... Waterford cant hold a hurling championship game... Louth and Kildare would only hold very low profile championship games if at all. radiotower (Cavan) - Posts: 75 - 18/06/2018 16:36:51 2112720 Link 0 |

How many home games does a inter county team have each year. 3 or 4 league games 1 Provincial Championship game ( dependent on draw) 1 or two qualifier games (dependent on draw) So best case 7 inter county games at home. Worst case 3 inter county games at home. Now can you explain why you think that a county should two inter county grounds for 7 games a year and possibly 3. Because they will have to cede home advantage if main ground unavailable ......as Cavan have to do with Down !

No need to split hairs about who owns Clones.........it's our county ground full stop. If it was unavailable for any reason and we have a championship match with Down, like Cavan do, then that game would be played in Blayney (2,000 capacity seated stand and like Breffni close to major road networks) and failing that in Inniskeen. This point seems to have hit a sore point with some very frustrated Cavan supporters but knowledgeable supporters (thankfully in the majority) can see that it's not about bragging rights. The point is relevant for any county with only 1 designated county ground.....it's topical presently because of the the Cavan v Down game that's all ! I created this thread for the discussion of football matters, not for trivial nonsense like who owns what ground. Cavan_Shambles (Cavan) - Posts: 406 - 18/06/2018 18:08:22 2112761 Link 0 |
To be ruthlessly honest if you are good enough it should not matter what ground you play on. Home or away if you have the quality you should not be afraid to play on any pitch it's that simple. Cavan have not been the only grounds closed over the years for refurbishment. Next week end one will see how good Cavan are and if beat I hope they don't start blaming not being able to play on their home ground. You will have the same supporters as you would have in Breifni except the free loaders who come in at half time when the gate is opened. The best of luck to the lads and management and all going well be in the draw next Monday. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4565 - 18/06/2018 18:38:17 2112772 Link 0 |

A little correction if I may - Cavan didn't concede home advantage to Down, you dont concede home advantage if your ground is unavailable. Clones was unavailable due to the Ulster Final, so Brewster was the next best thing, and a ground that actually Cavan like. cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 441 - 19/06/2018 13:24:19 2113051 Link 0 |
Mackey....on the bench....are you serious? Hes the only forward we have with a bit of creativity about him. Johnston in the free role v Antrim was shocking Galligan McLoughlin Clarke Flanagan Reilly Faulkner Holla McKiernan Moynagh Mackey Kiernan Muray Caoimhin Cole McVeety Cavan-Hero (Cavan) - Posts: 27 - 19/06/2018 17:53:41 2113153 Link 0 |
More hair splitting....if Cavan had another ground satisfying the criteria the Down game would be there and not in Brewester, Clones, planet mars or wherever else !

Just goes to show the interest in cavan football when the main contributor to the page is a Monaghan supporter and the contribution is regarding football pitches!!!!!! theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 394 - 20/06/2018 12:44:00 2113323 Link 0 |
I appreciate the sentiment but all I asked was a simple question and then paranoia came out of the woodwork. Let's talk football...Cavan to beat Down pulling up ! Shelbourne (Monaghan) - Posts: 567 - 20/06/2018 14:11:56 2113354 Link 0 |
