Are Mullahoran not favorites to win Ulster?? Talk is they are going to go one better than Ballinagh and win the All Ireland. Not sure Castlerahan have enough talent to win out Ulster but I wish them well going forward. It's their first time as Cavan Senior Champions so a great chance to impress and do the business. That's a very strong Eoghan Rua team. Eoghan Rua by 6.

This is a very strong Castlerahan team, nearly every player in their starting 15 has some form of county experience, no reason they shouldn't win

Congratulations Mullahoran on a great win yesterday. Fantastic game of championship football played on a very heavy pitch. Two teams deserve great credit. Went down to the wire and ebbed and flowed throughout. Mullahoran's second half display in normal time when down to 14 was brilliant. Their commitment and tenacity in defense was hugely impressive. The sucker punch at the end and then conceding 1-1 right at the start of extra time would have buried most teams but they didn't panic and stuck to the task at hand. Finally broke Bredagh's spirit in 2nd half of extra time. The Down team were a very impressive outfit and it could have gone either way but Mullahoran were that bit more composed and clinical going forward which was the difference in the end. Great credit to their team and management. Their bench had a huge influence on affairs when introduced. Crowd were on the edge of their seats throughout and it was a terrific atmosphere. Well I got that spot on. I was at the game and felt the scoreline was very harsh as was the second yellow. Also to lose two big players to injury and another to black and still battle was impressive. Some tactic in second half to play without a keeper and go man to man.

Coleraine done their best to lose that game, if they played any football in the second half they could have won by 20 points

That was a hard one to take, 6 points was no reflection on the final score as to how closely these 2 teams were matched. 5 mins into 2nd half it looked very bleak having lost Enda Flanagan, Cormac Daly, David Wright and Fergal Reilly, 6 points behind and down to 14 with a very harsh 2nd yellow for Wright. Fair play to Castlerahan though who still tried to play football and continued to go at them and brought it back to 1 with 8 mins to go. Some poor shooting didnt help during this period and Coleraine managed to close it out in the end.

Hard luck Castlerahan yesterday. Gave it everything but nothing went right. Daly black card was a major turning point as he was shoring up defense well and it threw them off their defensive game for a while. They walked through for 2 goals shortly after that and then the 2nd yellow for Wright just before half time. Very harsh red! You'd have to wonder what way referring is going. I've seen Cavan at IC get some yellows the last few years for shoulder charges as well but then you see so much other nonsense let go. I honestly thought it would be a white wash second half as Eoghan Rua looked such a strong running team but they sat back which suited Castlerahan and they threw everything at them. Brought it back to 1 which deserves great credit but just didn't have enough bite up front or legs left for the final push. Losing Flanagan and Fergal Reilly to injury were also major setbacks. It's a shame as you'd feel with the full compliment they were more than a match for them. Still, not a bad year for them. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 05/11/2018 10:51:28 2149606 Link 0 |
Well done to Kingscourt GAA too. Grounds and pitch were in great shape and a credit. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 05/11/2018 10:55:22 2149608 Link 0 |
Coleraine looked like a poor team yesterday. Scotstown will take them easily. Castlerahan main players failed to make an impact on the game. Mackey got lots of ball but little came off it. Ronan Flannagan looked flat for long spells. YOUWONTCODME (Cavan) - Posts: 125 - 05/11/2018 11:20:14 2149615 Link 0 |
Would I be right in saying that the last two teams to win a Cavan Football Championship did so having not beaten Cavan Gaels enroute to winning them? ? YOUWONTCODME (Cavan) - Posts: 125 - 08/11/2018 12:54:00 2150192 Link 0 |
You're right. Cavan Gaels didn't beat themselves and Castlerahan drew with them in group. Didn't have to play again because they barely won a game.

It's funny that when Castlerahan lose in Ulster it becomes a hard luck story but when the Gaels were net in Ulster down through the years the state of Club football within the County was questioned. But not so this year? Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 08/11/2018 17:04:55 2150250 Link 0 |
Well it was very hard luck that 2 out of 3 of their county men went off injured, center back black carded, midfielder red carded before half time if that happened the gaels I would say it was very hard luck too.

It was often said there was bad luck too and a lack of discipline. The St. Galls game springs to mind. No need to play the victim.

I would say that the state of club football is in great shape if the almighty gaels can only win one game. Against a team who didn't wana win I might add

I don't think getting beaten by 6 points at home is a hard luck story

Was there not a lack of discipline in Castlerahan s performance last Sunday with black and red cards? Or was that hard luck too? Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 08/11/2018 20:23:09 2150283 Link 0 |
If you think the red was a second yellow well football not the game for you. Wasn't quite three red cards type indiscipline. Maybe their partying by all accounts was a lack of discipline.

And Coleraine didnt party? C'mon lad. I was at the game. Coleraine were there for the taking. Black and red cards aside They wouldnt have won. They wouldnt have pressed so high in second half had they all their players on the field which is why they clawed back into the game in second half.
