So your saying we never had many injuries before the last 2 years? What about the injuries to Givney , F Flanagan, Keating , M Reilly etc? Take the blinkers off? Are Dublin's injuries down to SC as well ? Or Kerrys or Mayos or Donegal's? Wise up Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 08/05/2018 07:54:58 2097194 Link 0 |

Yes there are injuries in other counties but we seem to be having a very large amount in the last 2 years just before the championship, more than other teams and these are not old player with piles of miles on the clock. But heh, if you want to ignore this and bury your head in the sand work away. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1333 - 08/05/2018 10:51:25 2097226 Link 2 |
If you have home advantage in the preliminary round you are away in the quarter file, and the reverse also. Of Cavan win they play Derry in Breffni. If Donegal win its in Celtic Park

The whole of Croke Park knew it was a hamstring and Mattie admitted afterwards he should have had him off sooner. Nothing mysterious, just a cock up. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1333 - 08/05/2018 13:56:08 2097281 Link 0 |
Who are the additional players that are now injured/doubts along with McVeety that people are referring to? PatTheDandy (Cavan) - Posts: 282 - 08/05/2018 15:11:26 2097307 Link 0 |
I see a few comments on the injuries the players have picked up - the pitches have been in a poor state (remember the cork pitch..?) so that has contributed to the injuries i feel. Regarding the optimism, its great to see but very hard to see Cavan get a result away in Donegal. They have had the upper hand on us over the last few meetings and even though they were relegated, the quality of opposition was far superior than what we have been facing in div 2, they haven't lost a game in ballybofey since 2011, we are without our captain and best forward and when did Cavan last win an away game in the Ulster championship ..? The odds are against us for a reason but hopefully the lads give a good account of themselves and if it's close with a few minutes to go then who knows ... Also is there a game on beforehand ..? 20 bucks is a bit steep for one game ... sidelineview (Cavan) - Posts: 106 - 08/05/2018 16:08:39 2097326 Link 0 |

I would say our last away win in Ulster was in enniskillen maybe 4 years ago.

McVeety back in training. Will he be ready for Sunday,? fatkeeper (Dublin) - Posts: 316 - 08/05/2018 23:18:28 2097416 Link 0 |
Yep we beat Fermanagh in 2013 in the QF in Enniskillen but its a long time since we beat any of the big guns in Ulster away from home - probably have to go back to the early noughties for that and when you consider its 50/50 if your home or away in round one and the semi's and final are away in clones, our record is poor. Here's hoping that changes on Sunday but the bookies have it right 4/11 and 11/4 currently

Well if you are talking "big guns" the only one we have beaten away in the Ulster Championship since the start of 1990 is Monaghan in 95 I think and that was a semi which happened to be played in their ground - they were hardly a big gun at the time. To my recollection we have not beaten Donegal, Derry, Tyrone, Down or Armagh away in Ulster in that time. Thats a reflection on how bad Cavan football was - although some eejits would tell you in the 80s and early 90s we had a mighty team altogether. Thankfully things are better today and we have reasonable hopes with away games against many of those teams now. However with our injury concerns I think we are really up against it on Sunday but I will be there in any case to cheer them on.

I honestly Don't believe it's a great Donegal side at the moment . Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 09/05/2018 12:06:26 2097508 Link 0 |
We beat Donegal and Derry in 97 in clones then in 98 we lost to Down in the Semi after scraping past Fermanagh in Breffni and 99 and 00 were the hidings from Derry (at home) - less said about that the better then beat Down in casement in 2001 and 2004 but how good were Down back then so its back as far as that i'm afraid - anyway here's hoping on Sunday we improve that record.

I see you have dropped Derry from your list. lol But added Fermanagh, a team we have lost to once ever in the championship. lol x 2. Martin Reilly is injured, pulled hamstring and very dodgy to start. Big loss as he would surely be tasked with tracking mchugh who is the real man who pulls the strings. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1333 - 09/05/2018 12:33:03 2097526 Link 0 |
I'd even be worried away to Derry. Yes they are Div 4 but a handful at home in the championship. Mc Hugh I feel will play half back maybe Murray the man to track him and McLoughlin track mc Brearty. Murphy only back after injury and hasn't hit form yet neither has Mc Kieran for us. I homestly believe we in with a big chance here. Not allowing them to build from the back is a major key to beating them. No Lacey , Neil McGee well past his sell by date. Forwards playing as forwards. Seanie right in the corner that will keep paddy mc Grath from going forward. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 09/05/2018 13:14:01 2097547 Link 0 |
Word from a reliable source is Ryan McHugh might be out for Sunday. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 09/05/2018 13:53:03 2097559 Link 0 |
ridiculous stream . The conclusion being that if we beat a team then it's because they were no good. If we lose then it's because we are no good.

omg. are you serious. Have you seen any of Donegal's games this year ?. They stood toe-to-toe with Kerry,Mayo and Dublin. They are playing better football than they have been playing these past few years. They are more attack minded and break at pace. Paddy McBrearty is virtuallly unmarkable. Murphy is a powerhouse around the middle who mops up everything and starts all the attacks (he is also a dead-ball specialist. some of their "younger players" have improved no end. I honestly don't expect us to get within 10 points of them.

It doesn't matter if Ryan Mchugh out or not With the injuries cavan have we will be lucky to get 15 on the field at all , jelly is out and Martin reilly maybe c reilly as well as d mcveety not to mention the long term injuries like mcphillips, We will do well to not get a hiding unfortunately, very disappointing. blueman1903 (Cavan) - Posts: 743 - 09/05/2018 14:46:03 2097581 Link 0 |
