Hi folks, thought I'd get the ball rolling on the new club scene for the year. Does anyone know when the fixtures for each League will be released? Seeing as they are down to start the first week of April I would think the fixtures should be out in the next week or two. GAAhead2017 (Cavan) - Posts: 74 - 05/02/2018 16:20:55 2074352 Link 0 |
Yeah. Set for April but no idea when the fixtures are out. It's a long wait for club players but a few Cavan clubs are involved in the Ulster club league. Good competition for lads and beats endless training all day long although logistics are probably a bit of a head ache. Anyone know the criteria for competing in this league and was it invitation only? Seems a pity local clubs/CB can't come together and set up a few local leagues in Cavan for the next couple of months. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 05/02/2018 16:54:39 2074360 Link 0 |
Ramor beat Ballinascreen by a big margin yesterday Setantawatchl (Cavan) - Posts: 132 - 05/02/2018 17:09:57 2074372 Link 0 |
Big win alright. Ballinascreen beat Cootehill already who got hammered by Bellaghy at the weekend. Mountnugent and Laragh had big wins in the intermediate section at the weekend. Don't think any other Cavan clubs involved.

Anyone hear anything from the County Board meeting which took place last night (Monday) about which format is going to be used in the ACFL? I presume fixtures will be released very soon. GAAhead2017 (Cavan) - Posts: 74 - 20/02/2018 22:18:06 2078887 Link 0 |
I think they just discussed menu options for the meal in the Croke Park Hotel the day of the Division 2 final, doubt if club games are near the top of the agenda with all the glory that is surely going to be bestowed upon them......

So fixtures probably won't be out until the following week after that, which leaves 3 weeks between clubs finding out who they are playing for the year and the start of the league if it begins 1st of April. Hardly much preparation time.

It's not about when fixtures are. It's to do with how many games you will play with and without county players. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 22/02/2018 14:52:23 2079221 Link 0 |
Play without, simple. The majority of people I've talked to from various clubs in Cavan over the past 2 or 3 weeks have gone in for option 2, playing every week with the League over before Championship. County players will still be available for play-offs/finals etc.. But of course it won't be that easy and we will have the same mess as last year.

Ballyhaise on the rob from a small junior club struggling for numbers doesn't sit easy with me. They have big enough numbers without taking a player from Drung who will get it hard enough to field a team this year. RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 616 - 25/02/2018 09:45:08 2079914 Link 0 |
Option 2 voted in last night i hear. Thats alot of football and will be very tough on teams with alot of county seniors and u20s. Feedmequick (Cavan) - Posts: 3 - 27/02/2018 12:35:46 2080895 Link 0 |
Personally I think if was the right move. The majority voted it in so I can't see there being too many complaints, which club would have the most players in on the county panel? Division 2 & 3 teams will be most pleased by this move I would say. Games every week for nearly every club player (Reserve League aswell) and not waiting around wondering when the next game is. Dates have been fixed and everyone knows the drill. About time! GAAhead2017 (Cavan) - Posts: 74 - 27/02/2018 16:50:57 2080994 Link 0 |

Great that football will continue throughout the year and the county will benefit from it by hanging onto some quality players to the GAA and not losing them to other sports. The gaels second team didnt even win the junior championship how could they beat most senior teams? EastCavan (Cavan) - Posts: 180 - 28/02/2018 21:40:07 2081341 Link 0 |
Anyone got information regarding the fixtures, have they been sent out to clubs yet? 2 or 3 weeks out from the League's commencing I would think they would have them out by now. GAAhead2017 (Cavan) - Posts: 74 - 06/03/2018 17:49:35 2082271 Link 0 |
