Fredflint maybe you would copy and paste your post where you said that. While your at it copy and paste your posts after the 3 Ulster club championship games the Gaels were involved in. It's easy to post after a defeat. Where you posts after they won!? Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 27/11/2017 14:33:13 2063784 Link 0 |
they wouldn't of bet any of the 5 teams on the other side of the draw. Omagh, Scotstown, Kilcar, Kilcoo and Slaughtnei

They weren't on the other side of the draw. That's like saying Mayo would come out of Ulster. The Gaels have had a great season considering the position they were in last year fighting relegation. They knuckled down with the help of Jason , went unbeaten so far in Cavan although well beaten by the Ulster champions and potential all Ireland champions. There no shame in that. Johnston and Lyng (until injured) had a great year. Not bad for 2 lads who 7 years ago were told by VA that they were finished. Declan And Kevin Meehan and Nial Smith also played out of their skin this year. Not bad for 3 lads that were told by TH they weren't good enough especially when worse was persevered with. There at least 7/8 Gaels lads good enough for county panel IF interested. Time will tell. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 27/11/2017 15:07:26 2063792 Link 0 |
Just flicking through all the threads to make sure that Terry Hyland is mentioned negatively...................ah, there it is. On to the next one. Skelling (USA) - Posts: 288 - 27/11/2017 15:24:39 2063794 Link 1 |
You misunderstand. I think Gaels underachieved and I would have thought they would have done better. I was optomistic they would put it up to Slaughtneil. Maybe the standard is not as good as I had hoped.

Did Terry Hyland stop the three boys playing last year too even though he wasn't the manager?

Did Terry not play Niall Smith and he got a bad injury? The other two were not playing as well as they are now. As for Val Lyng wasn't really part of his cull and injuries had taken their toll on him. Johnson wasn't dropped because of ability but because of attitude. Same with the other senior players he dropped. I'm not saying he was correct but that was his opinion. doratheexplorer (Cavan) - Posts: 1467 - 27/11/2017 21:03:31 2063838 Link 0 |
Sammymaguire Tomsmith here from Cavan Town the home of Cavan Gaels Well we had a bad day at the office against Slaughneil. But sure we did not get the rub of the Green that the Derry got. a few of the referees decisions which were marginal went against . The heavy pitch did not suit us and the more physical Derry type of play did not suit the Cavan Gaels lightweight forwards who relay on high speed skill which requires a dry ball and good underfoot conditions. While the above mentioned facts and by reason of the low standard of competition at senior level in Cavan the Gaels were ill prepared for a Ulster final at the end of November tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 3275 - 27/11/2017 22:24:09 2063844 Link 0 |
Good lord! Tom it's closed season now, get yourself off somewhere for a couple of weeks, have a couple of pina colada's by the pool and clear the head. I hear Lanzarote is nice at this time of year! Reformation (Cavan) - Posts: 356 - 28/11/2017 07:51:20 2063856 Link 0 |
Inaroundthehouse: would say you that VA on his own told both people you named in your post that their inter county career was over. It just might be nice to get your facts right for a change. Would you name the 7 or 8 gaels players that are good enough for the county please. As I have not seen any games from any club since the 3rd of September I am curious to know who they are. Thank you in advance.

would the bad conditions underfoot not have taken more off a toll of the big physical lumps from derrry? Would the wet ball not have hindered the derry teams hoof it and catch it system? you say the gaels were ill prepared for the ulster final..which obviously points towards a bad attitude or bad management?? Are you calling for paddy gumley to be called into the cavan set up as he's currently excelling at a higher level than any player in cavan at the moment? wishfulthinkin (Cavan) - Posts: 1481 - 28/11/2017 09:39:36 2063863 Link 0 |
Hard luck to the Gaels, beaten by a much better team end of. But they tried to make a game of it when it would have been easier to drop the heads. They are a good team and well balanced but I don't think they have an outstanding player. Slaughtneil were excellent and their 3 players in particular Rogers, McKaigue and Bradley were a level above anything the Gaels have. Put those 3 players in the Gaels team and it would be a very different story. Thought POC was excellent in the middle of the field second half. I don't think any Gaels player really played badly, they were just up against a different class of team. They had no time on the ball- as soon as they got it they were put under serious pressure. It's been a good year for them. They now know where the bar is really at. Whether they can develop as a team and take it up a notch is the million dollar question. If they can and in turn other clubs in the county do likewise it would be very good for Cavan football. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 28/11/2017 13:58:10 2063897 Link 0 |
Paul o Connor Nial Murray Stephen Murray Seanie Johnston Kevin Meehan Barry Fortune Paul Graham Maloney Derham. Are all good enough to be on the panel given their displays all year through the championship Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 28/11/2017 15:24:07 2063904 Link 0 |
Paul Graham was asked in at the start of the year but didn't want to commit. Meehan and Maloney Derham solid players and worth another run. Though there is lots of half backs around the County panel. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2216 - 28/11/2017 16:52:21 2063915 Link 0 |

Hopefully Terry Hyland will let Mattie call them in this year.

Paul O' Connor? ??Where you at the county final or the Ulster club final? Not near good enough for county football in my opinion. The ONLY Cavan Gaels player id have in there is Kevin Meehan. The rest of the names have been tried and tested.

Paul lay down after contact on Sunday and the game barely started. Doesn't have the strength for county football.

Tomsmith here a proud Cavan gaels supporter It is very easy to be critical of the Cavan gaels team after Sundays game. You can say this and that but lets face iyt the Gaels were up against a great Derry championship team. I could name about half a dozen Cavan senior teams which would have been kicked of the field ion Sunday. While defeated the Gaels team did us proud with a good display and as I a have said only for afew split decisions that went against us coupled with the underfoot conditions we could have stole the game. tomsmith (Cavan) - Posts: 3275 - 29/11/2017 09:05:12 2063960 Link 0 |
How can you say that Meehan is the only player you'd bring in. the state of the county panel at the minute, there is actually 7 or 8 lads on it that wouldn't get playing for the Gaels and that is not an exaggeration by any manner. theDagger1986 (Cavan) - Posts: 178 - 29/11/2017 11:26:27 2063973 Link 0 |
