where is the rule that says 1st and 2nd places are decided by head-to-head. I know that's the primary deciding factor in deciding promotion and relegation but where does it say that for other positions. Does it also decide 4th and 5th ?.
I am not just saying this because Cavan had a better score-diff, I said it 2 years ago as well when Tyrone finished top of div 2. They should have been declared winners. I also don't think anyone should be making comments about Liam kierans and Tipperary. Tipp were better than Cavan during this league and that is a fact. I'm sure if they had kept 15 on the field they would have won so I am under no illusions. I believe Tipp could hold their own in Div 1. Having said that We have been unlucky ourselves in the past regading sendings off. Mossy Corr v Roscommon springs to mind. (Sent off after been subbed at half time for an innocuous little flick after the ref had played on for a few minutes and even allowed a break of play and then half-time). We had another man sent off against Derry and were put out of the championship in 2016 I think it was. Compared to what the big teams get away with these were harmless enough.

I think the head to head rule is one of the stupidest ones in the league. Score diference is a far better indicator on where teams are if they finished level on points. The head to head is based on one game and one of those teams are at home which gives them an advantage. Unless there is home and away score aggregate (which will never happen in our leagues), it shouldn't be used. As it stands, Roscommon finish top of the table with a worse score difference. Doesn't make much of a difference as there is a league final here and botehr are promoted, but should be changed if it affects teams in 2nd and 3rd looking for promotion or are in a relegation battle.

In a 7 game league I actually feel head to head is fairest way and that's not just because we finished ahead.
I remember I think it was 2011 giving Kilkenny a outrageous hammering in division 4 cause it might have a bearing on division 4 promotion as did everyone else, 1 of the reasons they stopped participating.
Louth were in something similar a situation in this year's division 2 Ros and I have no doubt Cavan opened them up for goal chances to take the point instead.
A league shouldn't be decided on how many goals you put past the whipping boys.

Just wondering how Roscommon are top of the table with +21 and Cavan have +23 is there another way of calculating how one finishes ahead of the other when they both have the same points ?? 11
Having said that the league is the league there is one cup and it was alway's the two top teams play each other to have bragging rights with their name on the Cup. To be honest promotion was good enough for me and there is a huge year next year having to play most of the top teams in the country. Staying in division 1 will be a huge ask but let's get this year over first before we start to worry about it.
Best of luck Sunday bring back the silverware for your true supporters."
Allianz FL2 P W D L Dif Pts
Roscommon 7 5 1 1 21 11
Cavan 7 5 1 1 23 11
Clare 7 3 2 2 -10 8
Tipperary 6 3 1 2 25 7
Cork 7 3 0 4 3 6
Meath 6 2 1 3 6 5
Down 6 2 0 4 -9 4
Louth 6 0 0 6 -59 0

Theres the league table, Rule is if two teams are on same amount of points its head to head. If three or more teams finish level on points its score difference.

Well done to all concerned. Great achievement to get straight back up.

Few Construction comments on the game and peoples comments above:

Whether he would help in the backs or not. McVeety is needed in the forward line to create scoring chances.

Likewise Ciaran Brady is needed to run at teams from deep. Maybe needs to get taken away from the responsibility of holding the middle.

Not sure who the man is for the CB job instead instead, but certainly not Moynagh. One of the worst culprits for allowing lads to walk through.

Don't think Killian Clarke is a midfielder for county level. Not comfortable enough on the ball. We don't even hit kickouts to him so his size is wasted out there and he is a good man marker. I would move him back to full back and maybe push Faulkner to CB to hit lads coming running through.

Martin Reilly a great servant and still a key player.

Hoping that Conor Bradley will improve for the championship having got a few games. Clever player and could be a great addition to the forward line.

Don't really see what Oisin Kiernan adds to the mix at all..

McKiernan again anonymous and disappointing in a big game for a man of his size and ability. Both him and Magee appear to be fairly tame for big men.

A good man marking job on McVeety and we could be shown up to be a fairly blunt outfit. Hopefully that wont happen though as he is near unmarkable at the minute. A great leader.

I'm not sure head to head is fairest as that is just one game and who knows what the circumstances of that game might be. If there are "whipping boys" in the division then it should be the same for everyone and the results should even themselves out over the course of the 7 games. I know a few years ago both Monaghan and Meath got promoted from div 3 and Cavan had beaten both of them (it didn't mean we were better than them over the course of the league).

Think you're being a bit harsh on couple players.

I think Killian has had one of his better leagues. He's being dynamic and direct and carried well. Kickouts are not the be all of a midfielders role anymore. Also Oisin Kiernan has shown in his first year he can kick a score and has a good kick pass. Played the sweeper role well stopping Tipps two biggest threats from play. Also made couple good last ditch tackles.

Agree with the rest. Bradley impressed when played in his natural position rather than marking players. I'd leave Faulkner full back. Minds it well. We are missing Philips and Murray two good corner backs but maybe Fergal Reilly might be up to speed come championship time.

Gearoid still has the issue where he cannot play a full 70 minutes. Maybe could put him in on square at times and mix it up. We need Buchannan back as soon as possible.

Galligan saved us on few occasions. Once where he swept and his handling was good.

Is Mackey a better option of bench? Him and Johnson drove us on last quarter.

Agreed with Kiernan he will run all day, played sweeper Sunday and completely cut out the kick pass option into Sweeney and Quinlivan. Dont think Buchanan will be seen this year as he is to undergo knee surgery.

That's a pity. Was led to believe he'd be back soon. Him and Kiernan two good Ballymachugh men.

Mcglennan said in an interview 2 or 3 weeks ago he was back in training. Is this operation new news?

I would not lose a nights sleep over it top equal top all that matters they are promoted and a chance to win silverware next Sunday thats all that matters. I really don't know why all the silly posts about Cavan finished top the cup is theirs not so there is as usual another game to decide who wins the trophy plain and simple.

Great to be back in division 1, delighted for team & management after a tuff few months.

One point thats worrying going forward is enda flannagans red mist in a tackle, he was lucky not to see line twice v Tipp and once v Down for a horror tackle which sent a player to hospital. Good to see a player fully comitted but Im concerned that he will get a red in a big game and will cost us victory.

The tackle against Down was hard but stopped a certain goal and helped us win the game.

No excuses for tackle during second Tipp goal.

One has to play to the referee some are fair referees but so many are brutal.
I have to agree with you Cavan have been lucky regarding red cards but you can only blame the officials that either don't see these tackles or just don't have the balls to do the right thing. I believe it's as simple as that. Not just Cavan this applies all over the country. Quality referees are few to be honest but I suppose human like us all they have a split decision to make a call be it right or wrong.

Folks

It is just great to read all the posts this week. What a difference compared to the two week period leading up to the Clare game.

Last Sunday's game is one that we would normally have lost in previous times. There was some cheer when Conor Madden nailed the winning score. I was absolutely delighted for him and everyone else involved. I hope Sunday's result gives young Philips the boost he needs in his battle to return to fitness in the weeks and months ahead. Dublin, Kerry, Mayo coming to the Park in the early part of 2019! Hopefully, it might also encourage some other players to return to the fold. David Givney, for one, comes to mind. He could do a job in the midfield sector, an area of the field where we lack a ball winner. Of course Mattie may well unearth some new recruit that will do the job. He has shown over the past two months that he certainly has an eye for young talent.

I have one wish for the team during the summer that lies ahead of them and that is that they maintain if not improve on their performances to date. Over the past number of years we have seen a dip in performances post National League and I include 2016, the year of our last promotion, as an example of same.

It was also good to see Clare end their series of games with 8 points, they were not the mugs that everyone made them out to be. Only poor Louth were not competitive at the level. Outside of our Division it was sad to see a great football county like Derry find themselves in Division 4. They beat us on 3 separate occasions in 2016 and at the end of the second round of League games in 2016 they had 4 points and we had 0 points. How things can change!

Being Easter Sunday I won't be able to Make Croke Park. I would like to wish all those travelling to the game a safe journey.

Maybe Sean will make a come back next January in order to guarantee that the Park is in tip top condition for the encounters that will lie ahead.

Why if you have no RESPECT for your county pitch you don't deserve a quality pitch. If everyone is allowed to train on it with a 3/4 training pitch out the back there is no point in wasting near on €200000 euro doing up the pitch. It's good enough as it is put the money into the plan across the river.
