Cavan Ladies Senior Championship

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Can anyone shed any light on what's going on in the Senior Championship.

I know Mullaghoran have qualified for the final last week end but the other semi final has been postponed because of an appeal lodged by Lacken over their game against Lurgan and essentially Lurgan been deemed the winners based on scoring average ??

Surely if there's a rule there then it applies and there should be no appeal .

What is the actual rule any way as I can't seem to find it in the Ladies hand book.

It's hard to believe that I posted a message regarding the Ladies Senior Championship semi final at 12.15 this morning and to date there has been no post back.

This supposesdly should be the blue ribbon competition of Ladies Club football in Cavan and it does not even warrant a post back.

It doesn't say alot about interest in Ladies club football in Cavan

Well to be honest after what happened last year I am not too many want to get involved and you know what one of the two clubs wrote so the less said the better don't you think.
Carol Phyllip and the rest of the committee have a lot on their plate. You have your three finals in two weeks so I hope they have it sorted for they get one crack at the whip trying to get all three played in Breffni and by the way at this stage another 12 matches or so will have been played on a pitch thats starting to show it's wear and tear.

Where teams finish with equal points the tie shall be decided by the following means and in the order specified;

(a) Where two teams only are involved, the placing will be determined
as follows and in the order specified:

The outcome of the head to head game between the two teams concerned will determine the placings.
Should the head to head match between the two teams concerned have finished in a draw the team that finishes in the higher position will be the one that scored the highest number of points i.e. balls kicked over the bar in that head to head match.

I have no doubt there was real football played last week end.

Look it. I have three daughters playing Ladies Football and am a strong advocate of same.
When it is played well it is a joy to watch and have seen a number of really good games this year already, with top class offensive and defensive football played and I am talking Senior club football within this county.

Based on the rule as outlined above it appears clear cut and cannot understand why there are grounds for an appeal. Whether you agree or disagree with the rule if it's there, it's there and the only place you can change it is at Congress.

I just hope it is sorted quickly as club football is your bread and butter with regard to progress at inter county level and I know alot of girls will be extremely disappointed if the Senior final is not played on the 3rd of September. Unlike the lads this is their only opportunity to play in Breifne

Yes sadly it's one team that cannot accept the rules but I expect they will shout foul so what do you do. At least you can play the Junior and Intermediate and get tham over with if this dispute continues which I expect it will.

Reading the rule it states points "kicked over the bar". What happens when a ball is fisted over the bar? I assume they don't count if the rule is that watertight?

Good point.

Just hope that the rule is clearcut and and a stated so tonight with no further grounds for appeal.

The Ladies need to be strong on this and put it to bed, end of story, otherwise it's farcical and does not shed a good light on Ladies football in general

I agree it's a stupid rule, however it can't be changed in mid season. Bring it to convention next year.

Apologies on that last post

Correction as follows:

Good point.

Just hope that the rule is clearcut and dealt with comprehensively at tonights meeting with no further grounds for appeal.

Whats stupid about it how clear cut is it. It's no difference than the mens national football league Cork were relegated on the head to head to division 2 and many teams before them and after them going forward.
Before a ball is kicked everyone knows where they stand and if a team wants to plead the 5th amendment they get a rude awakening when they realise they should have known. Take it on the chin and move on. If there is a meeting that I am not aware off I hope the chair lady sticks her heels in and makes no effort to change the rule in mid stream. To change it now would result in many more problems going forward. The team that are deemed the winners might decide to take it to next level and so on. Nip it now at the bud and move on.

Replying to S Goldrick and to Sean O Rinn

When I speak of "Blue Ribbon event" I am taking about Ladies Club Football and surely Ladies Senior Championship club football would be the Blue ribbon event/competition within ladies club football inside the County.

In reply to Sean I do think it's a stupid rule.

The fact that the rule only includes scores taken over the bar and not under is stupid.

This is an adult competition and rules applying to Blitzes at under 10 and younger should not apply.

I do agree Sean that the rule is there but as far as I know it can't be changed in mid year but only if voted in as a rule change at Convention at the end of the year.

I am not sure I read your post right are you saying only scores over the bar count if thats true who invented that rule. I was off the opinion it was head to head scores against. I feel then there must be a mistake with this rule if what you say is correct. Sad thing about it if it goes on the county ladies senior match will not take place. Can you post this rule for me please.

I feel they are nit picking common sense will tell you they men score difference and nothing else. Number of points scored can mean only one thing total scored. For example one goal equals 3 points so 10 goals x 3 plus say 24 = 54 points. i.e is just an example they have no case.

From what I understand it is the other way around. The CB are enforcing the rule and not allowing goals so the club have every right to challenge it

Congratulations to Cornafean on winning the Junior Championship and to Crosserlough on winning the Intermediate Championship yesterday.

It's good to see the dispute concerning the Senior Championship has been resolved with Lurgan winning through at the weekend to meet Templeport in the Senior Championship Semi-final.

I do think however that it's a shame that the senior final cannot now be played In Kingspan Breifne Park. I know a lot of girls are very disappointed with not getting their opportunity to play in Breifne
