Replying To FrDougalMaguire:  "Replying To foxes_denn: "Excellent post - the future is blue lads and so has the past. No matter how good Monaghan think they are, we must never forget that we are Cavan. We have all ireland medals in our blood and these Monaghan lads are nearly and never been men. I am predicting a 4 point win, Seanie will open up the monaghan defence and get 6 - 8 points. that is where our scores will come from

We can live in the past or face reality ! The last All ireland medals were so long ago that none of the team the played are still alive.
Our last silverware was 20 years ago !!

Monaghan have a better team. We are over training, unsettled and apparently lads leaving the squad.
I hope we win but honestly, I think we'll be lucky to get within 4 points of monaghan.

As for Seanie opening up the Monaghan defence, simple sweeper will KO Seanie as he will sit on the edge of the square and expect the ball on his chest.
Sj never has and never will win dirty ball nor chase it !!! Handy scores or frees are his specialty, but the modern game negates this type of player very easily.

All this BS about a derby game, our glorious past, it being in Breffni etc is all hype, building it up with no real substance behind it. We have about 6 good players and the rest are average.

Maybe I'm being negative, but show me the stats that say i should be any other way !!!"
You need to find more joy in the game than winning. The last two Monaghan games in the Championship have been outstanding for spectators, wonderful occasions.
Invest yourself emotionally, find a reason to be positive, talk up the players we have instead of knocking them from behind your keyboard, enjoy the build up instead of criticising the team and management at every opportunity. Go to Breffni to support your team, not to see them win. There's more to the game than winning. Enjoy it for God's sake and stop spewing negative bile at the game and the team you profess to support.

Replying To kupa:  "I have to admit you's are very optimistic ahead of the game. Sure why not - Since 2010 Cavan have played 11 Ulster Championship games and won 3.

27% win rate in Ulster in 7 years ...and not to mention Monaghan have won the previous 2 Ulster Championship games. June 11th can't come quick enough."
Look ! foxes_denn obviously on a wind-up there. I also think Conor madden could play a part . It's not about naming 15 players. Some players will only play half the match, it's about 21 players. We have a decent panel but I would worry about our scoring rate . We need to be hitting all our scoreable frees over the bar. so McKiernan from the right , who from the left ? . Johnstone is probably our most reliable but will he contribute enough from open play. Galligan could take most the frees from the left and pop them over. I would say Martin Reilly will be sweeper.
I would have Gerry Smith in there either half-back or half-forward (it doesn't make much difference these day). Mackey to come in at some stage.

galligan,faulkner,Rory Dunne,Fergal Reilly,Kilian Brady,Conor Moynagh,Ciaran Brady,GMaC,Kilian Clarke,Nial clerkin,martin Reilly,Gerry Smith,Joe Dillon,Conor Madden,Nial McDermott..... McEnroe,Mackey,Johnstone,Jason McLoughlin,T.Corr,L. Buchannan.

No way would I have k Clarke midfield, fullback is his place.

Johnston did very little in league, not sure why people think he is a cert to start. He might not even make the bench.

Mackey was at open training session so that's not true. Didn't see Jack. He also played for Ramor when there were no county players allowed play so might be truth to that.

I wouldn't like to see Killian Clarke midfield, anytime he was midfieldin the league it was a disaster , full back is the place for him, on jack mccarren, and falkner on McManus.

Agree totally with Blueman. In fact even playing Clarke in the corner gets the best out of Rory Dunne and it may allow you to move Faulkner onto the half back line or even into midfield

I'd like to see Faulkner on Mc manus I think Mc Loughlin could do a man marking job on Mc Caron , which would release Killian Clark for centre back , I would start Moynagh at half forward and play him as sweeper in front of our back line. The other corner back would be reilly , half back line would have to be Martin reilly on one wing the other would be a tough choice ,, midfield would be a hard choice nice if we could afford to put mc kiernan in the centre forward for his scoring ability which will be important in this close game , to do that it would have to be bucannon and Dillion, Dillion on Ciaran Hughes which would be a perfect match up, Mackey and Moynagh at half forward , full forward line Mc Dermott for his frees scoring Madden and Mc vitty , We can't let Monaghan win there own kick outs , we were doing it to too many teams this year and getting punished for it ,

Who has Mc Loughlin ever marked well?

He has been one of our discipline man markers going back as far as 2013 when he kept Jamie Clarke scoreless, who would you put in instead of him ? The Gunner most likely would be booked in the first 10 minutes of the game

Jamie Clarke when anytime he touched it he was fouled or had 5 on him. The only time he was one on one he buried in a cracking goal but ref brought it back for free.

Dillon at Midfield ?. are you serious. He is a great jumper for the ball and is strong but I dont think midfield would suit him.

Very sad that Dominic Early, a young man who was a new addition to the the Cavan backroom team this year, died in a Car accident over the weekend. It's heartbreaking for his loved ones to lose him so suddenly.

I'm sure the lads will have him in their thoughts when they take to the field next Sunday.

Terrible news of that poor young lad. I can imagine getting that post with the Cavan seniors would have been seen as a great stepping stone for him in his future endeavours. It's very hard to think about Cavan and their preparations when A tragedy like this happens. I extend my condolences to Dominic's family, girlfriend and friends. It'll be a tough week for Cavan also and I just hope they go out and do him proud.

I know it's not his natural position , but I think he would be a better option than mossy who hadn't a great league or Killian Clarke who is definitely not a midfielder, I think he would be the perfect player to mix it with Kieran Hughes .

Not a chance Dillon would be picked at midfield.
Looking at the likely central 'diamond' for each team it could be
Clarke-Corr-Buchannan-mckiernan against
Corey-McAdam-Hughes-Carey.
I would be very positive about Cavans relative strength there.
Then its martin reilly/mcveety against walsh/oconnell and mcenroe/moynagh against duffy/mcanespie. Again there is nothing in it, in terms of quality around the middle.

Level surely out the field, it's the comparison of inside forward lines that is the problem for Cavan.

I seem to recall your boys getting whipped in Tullamore and Portlaoise in recent qualifiers- correct me if I'm wrong now. And drawing Longford last year proved too tough for you also. You aren't great playing against the Leinster teams so you better pull out all the stops on Sunday hey!
