Yeah sure the Dubs are at the quarter final stages at this stage and some big clubs gone already. Its not as if the ref's don't protect the county men here either. But nothing beats October club championship games in Cavan and league playoffs and finals in December!!!!

I hear Tom Hayes and Jack Brady have also left the panel. They seem to be dropping like flies. BootIt (Cavan) - Posts: 136 - 31/05/2017 09:09:48 1992500 Link 0 |
As far as club games for county players go,you are damnded if you do,damnded if you dont,I see Donegal's decision to play the club games may come back to haunt them with concerning injuries to Michael Murphy and Neil McGee in the same club game. You would imagine that the in house games in the weeks leading to championship are very intense and helter skelter so chance of injury might even be higher at county training than in playing a soft league match where the county player can mind himself. Anyway, the word is that McAveety will not make it on time for the big day which obviously is a huge loss.Earlier poster said more players have left the panel,i sincerely hope this is not the case as if that is true the team spirit doesn't sound too healthy, can anyone shed any light on this. Our biggest positions to fill are full back--do you go with Faulkner or Killian Clarke, in midfield do you go with McKiernan,Faulkner,Buchanan along with Corr--our problem is we need McKiernan upfront and Faulkner and Killian at the back,I think we should play Dillon and McDermott upfront along with Niall Clerkin and play Mackey,M Reilly and ? in half forwards(otherhalf forward would have been McAveety), who do we play as sweeper, will it be Moynagh, ideally it would be and may well be M reilly but we are looking for 4 or 5 marquee players to be cloned.Who will man mark inside,Gunner probably will do one and i feel J McLoughlin will do other, another big loss has been Fergal Flanagan for this job, will Fergal Reilly start? Where will Rory Dunne play?Is N Murray and S Murray out injured too? Lots to chew on. celt2018 (Cavan) - Posts: 157 - 31/05/2017 09:42:37 1992514 Link 0 |
The squad is bloated with all the u21s called in so some lads would be part of squad but not near matchday squad.

Flanagan wouldn't handle any of those 3 Monaghan forwards. Faulkner completely shut McManus down in the league and can do so again. Mcloughlin would be well capable if keeping McCarran scoreless too. McCarthy is young and yet to play a derby of this magnitude (open to correction) but I think Reilly deserves to start based on league form. Gerry Smith is the half forward you are missing. He's the closest we have to mcvitty so needs to play if dara doesn't make it. It'll be packed defences on both sides so it's up to who can break fastest and create overlaps. We retreat very quickly and get the bodies into the 45 before making the tackles and I think that perfectly counters the running game Monaghan beat fermanagh with. We'll keep them to a low score, I'm fully confident if that. Its where we get our scores from that concerns me. Need to nail the frees (McDermott and McKiernan well able to do The And need midfielders chipping in with scores ala Castlebar in the league. It's going to be a tough tight game, not for the feint hearted, but one we can certainly win! cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 01/06/2017 09:42:00 1992908 Link 1 |
Look it's a game Cavan are capable of winning . We all get caught up in how good monaghan are and how poor we are . We are not a poor team . I believe we can beat Monaghan . It's always close . I will support my team . Please stop the negativity and get behind the team . Cavan by 2 Breffinifan (Cavan) - Posts: 91 - 01/06/2017 12:33:13 1993012 Link 1 |
Excellent post - the future is blue lads and so has the past. No matter how good Monaghan think they are, we must never forget that we are Cavan. We have all ireland medals in our blood and these Monaghan lads are nearly and never been men. I am predicting a 4 point win, Seanie will open up the monaghan defence and get 6 - 8 points. that is where our scores will come from.

I have to admit you's are very optimistic ahead of the game. Sure why not - Since 2010 Cavan have played 11 Ulster Championship games and won 3. kupa (Monaghan) - Posts: 268 - 01/06/2017 14:48:04 1993089 Link 0 |
Memories of the Polo Grounds and 1947 whistle in the wind and still our childish play!!! I was wondering when the golden era of Cavan football would be wheeled out.

Look, we know it has no relevance to next week's game. Still tho. . .nice to have a golden era to wheel out ;) cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4135 - 01/06/2017 16:41:36 1993142 Link 2 |
You have to be optimistic. That's the nature of sport. Let the neutrals offer unbiased insight but the rest of us enjoy the occasion. Must have a boring life to come onto forum to shi# on our cornflakes.

I know any team can pull off a shock on the day, but I have to say that monaghan starting 15 bar Shane Carey maybe have got their positions locked down, and arguably final 15 on field are as supermon (Monaghan) - Posts: 1071 - 01/06/2017 18:07:09 1993192 Link 0 |
☺very true, important to remember the past, just don't end up living there!!! Anyway will be tight game, always is. Monaghan on paper should win but no guarantees farneyFlaps (Monaghan) - Posts: 31 - 01/06/2017 18:09:11 1993194 Link 0 |
