Paul of 6 Forest Park, Virginia and late of Whitegate, Maghera died last June and was one of the few remaining links with the 1952 All-Ireland Cavan senior football team that beat Meath to win the Sam Maguire Cup.

Paul played a key role in that success, firstly in the drawn game in which he was partnered at midfield by Victor Sherlock.

In the replay which Cavan won by 0-9 to 0-5, Paul was among the subs but came on during the course of the game for John Joe Cassidy.

Paul was also involved in the county's National League sides.

He was a sub on the 1947/48 National League team which won the title at the expense of Cork, after a replay and was again among the subs in the 1949/50 National League final.

The late Paul was a true Gael and will be very sadly missed by Ramor United club members.

Paul managed Ramor to the SFC title in 1974 and was a keen observer of football matters.

Appropriately enough, many of the '74 team provided a Guard of Honour at Paul's funeral.

A man who shot from the hip and was admired for his honesty, Paul said it as he saw it.

He was an avid follower of Cavan teams and won many honours in the royal blue himself apart from his Celtic Cross.
