Former Cavan County Board chairman Philip 'Phil' Brady from Main Street, Arva passed away on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016. Born in Gurteen, Arva in 1934, Phil was renowned in the motor industry and ran one of the most successful Volkswagen dealerships in Ireland. His reputation in the GAA world was equally wide-ranging. He served as a Cormore delegate to the County Board at just 16 years of age and would act as both county chairman and a Cavan delegate to Central Council. Phil sat on numerous Croke Park committees and oversaw major developments at the county grounds as chairman of Breffni Park Development Committee. As a player, he won a county junior championship medal with Cormore in 1957. He was subsequently heavily involved with St Patrick's, Arva - the club which arose from an amalgamation of Cormore Sons of St Patrick and Arva. The Arva man was chairman of the County Board during Centenary Year and was also synonymous with streamlining underage football in Cavan.
