Suggestions For Cavan Football Championship

(Oldest Posts First)

Tomsmith here

We need to do something to raise the standard of Cavan football
Here is my suggestions and firsyt of all these are untried and a s such untested.
But before anyone shoots them down offer a better way forward.
Tier 1

Let the Senior Championship be based on the top 6 teams in the Senior league
Round robin each play each other and top two teams come out as winners

Tier 2

Let the next 6 teams be made up of Regional / Divisional teams or call them what you like amalgamated teams

Tier 2 has a round robin each team plays each other top two teams come out on top.

You now have the best 4 teams in the County
Bottom team from Tier 2 plays top team Tier 1 and Top team tier 2 [plays bottom team Tier one in semi final.
Final is then played
Any Senior player that has not played senior football in Tier 2 can play intermediate football

Tomsmith when would you like to play all these games? April? Or before Christmas?

You won't raise the standard of football in any county until you get u14s out of the gym and concentrating on the skills of the game. Practice practice practice.
Every young lad in the county with ambitions to play county football should be able to kick comfortable with both feet. That can only be achieved with sheer dedication and practice. You won't learn that in the gym.

These games could be played in April, under lights. You could play them before the league. And when you look at the threshing that the Gaels hand out in the league you dont learn much from these games

You are right this time ( you do be wrong many times) that the trashing that the Gaels hand out is like steam trashing.

Indeed, steam threshing can be done in the summer but is useless when the autumn rolls in.

Tom Smith from Cavan Town..
First of all let me say I am a loyal Cavan Gaels supporter a team that I supported in bad times ( when we were not winning County Senior titles) and in good times. I make my suggestion about the the grouping in the Championship as I am of the opinion that too many players in Cavan are party men. These are the fellows that would go out on a Saturday night and be playing on aSunday Championship. I do know that Cavan Gaels players take aserious issue with out County Championship and indeed many players would say that the odour of Drink in dressing rooms that the Gaels visit from an evening/ week before match is stifling
So think on my suggestion
