Injuries

(Oldest Posts First)

I see the county board have cancelled matches at the weekend due to injury concerns over county players.
Does anybody know what players are injured and whether the injuries are so serious to warrant this action?

Treating the club players as second class citizens once again. Why not bring forward the round of games due to be played without the county players.? Why not allow games to go ahead between clubs with no county players.?
Injuries are either through accident, over training or not training enough. Assuming its not the latter, maybe the strength and conditioning needs to be looked at.
If its accidental injury from playing matches, what way are they going to train ? No contact, no challenge matches or will they train & play wrapped in cotton wool or bubble wrap.
What difference if there between training games and club matches.?
Surely the training games would or should be more intense coming up to championship ! If players get injured in the opening game of the championship what happens? Have we no depth of squad?
Will we have to postpone the first round qualifier game ?
will we postpone the club scene ongoing?
I don't hear of any other county potponing club games weeks out from provincial championship. i mean, it's not as if we are going to win it !!!!!!

'Cavan county board have called off a full round of All County Football League fixtures this weekend over a "growing number of injuries" within their senior football panel.
An e-mail from the board was circulated to the county's 40 clubs last night and it outlined the unavailability of a significant number of county players to clubs as one of the main reasons for the postponment of Saturday's games'

This is some joke. Were the CB forced into a crisis action this week due to a string of injuries? It definitely reads that way. However, I noticed this weekends matches in ACFL 1,2 and 3 were listed as postponed on the official Cavan CB website as early as last Thursday week. Nothing to do with mounting injuries in the panel at all it seems, just more of the same 'oul craic.

I'm pretty sure the games were still listed to be played three days ago, if not later.

Club games between clubs with no county players can go ahead.

Most of the injuries are hamstring related so a fault with training.

so is it that they didn't want any more county players getting injured, is that it ? . Will there be no more club action then until Cavan are out of the Championship. Is that it then ?

Absolutely ridiculous. Play the effing games!!!! if it was any other player injured clubs would just have to suck it up. Cavan have to introduce a ''star game'' system. have a master fixture at the beginning of the year and stick to it. FULL STOP!!!

Just an observation here on the whole club vs county fixture dilema.

Having grown up in Cavan and seen some decent teams and great occassions in Breffni, Clones, etc. I never believed that I could ever do anything other than deeply care about Cavan football and our progress. However as a player, I was on the receiving end of some of these late fixture changes and it really infuriated me. Now I know the county board have a duty to make sure that we are at our peak for the championship but there is no real plan in place around club games and club players. I fear that the longer this goes on, the more that the club player and club officals will start to resent the county team as it is becoming a major obstacle for ordinary members of the GAA who want to go and play or see their club play on a given weekend. This needs to be addressed and taken seriously. I have spoken to others who share this view and this is a real problem that needs urgent attention.

They were all listed, but as TBC for times and dates. So this was all going to happen injuries or not. Is the county management now playing silly games too, trying to convince eveyone that Cavan are on their last legs? Clarke and McVeety are 99% ok for the monaghan/fermanagh game so why bother with all this? And if they are injured just move in. I thought we were supposed to have a strong panel???

Cavan have introduced a "Star games" this year for 2 games May 27/28 and June 17th and that's enough if your club is going for promotion or facing relegation.
This weekend's matches should NOT have been pulled there are 6 rounds of the league and the Cavan County Board have broken THEIR own Rules specifically set out in the Master fixtures plan once again very little respect for 97% of the club players of Cavan.

That's a bit presumptuous unless you have some more information to back it up.

I'd say training on hard ground with the recent dry weather and intensity of training has more to do with the hamstring injuries than playing club football. I can't imagine they're going to hold back on the training in the next week or two so it seems a bit crazy to blame club football and cancel league games. Huge slap in the face to club players. If they're that worried about injuries they might be better focus on what they're putting players through training wise and allow proper recovery for players between county training and club games.

It's hard to see any logic in it. If players are currently injured then they're neither able to train or play a club game so it's a non-issue.

Does it suggest then that they're trying to protect their back-up players from getting injured?

Strangely enough, Crosserlough played and won the only game in the top two divisions over the weekend. Was McVeety playing?

No county players involved in either.
I don't know but I'd say the logic is squeezing another county training session in. With games on over Friday, Saturday and Sunday and if county players are involved in all of them then that probably puts some of the county players in the red recovery wise for both Thursday and Monday so it leaves a very small window for intense training during the week. Poor planning and if they're only realizing this now then it wouldn't fill you with confidence for the future. But if they knew it all along and paid the clubs lip service about games with the full intention of calling games off at the last minute then it shows the contempt county setups have for ordinary club players.
